BRO I THOUGHT THAT THERE WAS GONNA BE A BIG FIGHT IN THE TAXI BECAUSE HE WAS TALING ABOUT "something big out there" AND I WAS SO EXITED JUST TO END UP BACK AT THE START LIKE WHAT THE FUCK?!😭😭
as someone whos played both boneworks and bonelab, i like bonelab in a more "mod friendly" way but i love boneworks more in a "actually good story" kinda way
yh boneworks didnt have any mod support but a good story. now the mods like fusion are the reason why so many play it. its like the opposite of boneworks and im all in for it
You summed up BONELAB really well! A lot of my friends just gave up on it since they thought SLZ abandoned its SDK when in reality their probably working their asses of to make it the best moddable VR game they can. It's such a damn shame the marketing for the game was terrible because if it was marketed more like the "Gmod of VR" that happens to have a short mini-campaign inside of it, it would have been better received. Keep up the great videos, mini!
The problem is that they were kinda damned either way. If they had sold it as "gmod of vr" then people would have still been pissed about the lack of powerful modding tools
@@SnrubSource I trust that SLZ knew it needed time in the oven, which is why they are updating it for 2 years. It's incredibly likely that meta gave them a really early release date and forced everyone into crunch mode. Which could also explain a lot of the bugs and such on launch.
@@uncheckable_vibe6891it does make sense. the issues the game had at launch were too big to make the game enjoyable, now the campaign is good for its purpose, to introduce mods
Oh god I remember playing the game on launch and getting stuck on pillar climb and spending 2 hours on the moon base, levels were downsized for quest and the layout of some maps are just.. very questionable, even to this day with the new patches.
Honestly I was surprised to find out that people hated pillar climb until after I played, I guess my game glitched and didn't swap my avatar as often, or I was running at 2 frames I don't remember.
@@elusivedesert8530 you played boneworks? I didnt have troubles with it either at day 1 i think because I was very used to stuff like super jumping already, so not being tall i could still make jumps
I feel like bonelab was a "necessary evil" for stress level zero to kinda experiment and figure out what they are doing. So, for the next game, they can do what they really want and go all out.
Man I really hope we get the same level and story design in the fifth SLZ title (if it ever releases) as Boneworks did. And they need to drop native Quest support.
I'm not going to lie, Bonelab is still a masterpiece. It has its issues, but I still love it. It's campaign is saddening, wish it got delayed a year or two and it would've been game of the year
Bonelab was to just show off the cool avatar gimmick, it already contains cool sandbox mechanics too so that the next game you won’t have to play it’s sandbox, but bonelab’s sandbox. Plus Brandon said that there will be narrative for HOTMK. Kind of where it gets the name of the game from boneLAB meaning it is experimental version of boneworks that will be constantly receiving updates to maintain relevance, (maybe even HOTMK characters will be featured in bonelab?). Making Bonelab the main hub of the three games, which is why the game was a letdown to players that wanted the story.
such a great video. really hit major points on the head. I love this game to no end, it probably being my favourite game of all time currently, and i have already made so many memories which have had me literally crying into my VR Headset with laughter, I do wish it had an amazing story, final boss and all the music to actually be used, but like you have said. that's not what it is. that's not what it was ever meant to be.
YES, GO OFF KING! Honestly, I don't really trust Brandon when he says that they're working on something big for the SDK. In the Node gameplay reveal he made a point to say that "for the entire pandemic and change, we've been working on a game bonelab and it's done... It's done.". We then got insane hype videos from ThrillSeeker claiming that bonelab was gonna be "THE ABSOLUTE BEST GAME EVER CREATED BY MAN" and a refusal from SL0 to reveal the price of the game before launch. (It was only $10 more but it felt really weird to be so apprehensive about it) Then we got day 1 bonelab lol. If there really is a big meaningful update coming after all this time... I'll believe it when I see it, because SL0 haven't really given me an air of truthfulness so far with this game.
I was definitely going into this game with the thought process that it being 40 dollars (10 more than boneworks) that it'd have a better story and campaign, only to learn that the avatar levels made up half of the missions and were all 3-4 minutes long. I was not going into it for the mod support at all and after finishing the game in 4 hours I was really pissed off, i got in the cab and was SURE that there was more to it after being dropped off at the menu thingy. Hope its worth checking out after the full sdk is out.
This was a great video I remember when i heard a slz game coming to quest i instantly bought boneworks on a cloud pc and played it i loved it and my hype for bonelab raised higher and higher And when it released i went mentally insane for most of the levels especially pillar climb but i still had a great time with the game and the mods i still enjoyed it
That was what i was really hoping for. I mean Garry's mod doesn't even have a single player campaign, but no one considers that a failure of a game because of it. Because that wasn't the point of the game.
bonelab was my first time playing any of the stress level games, and i didnt even know how to open the capsules. i think i got all the way to ascent before realizing i could open them lol
The balls *were* explained via signs once you got out of the medieval section as well as if you hold it with one hand, there are faint arrows pointing outwards
I’ve played boneworks before and I will say I love Bonelab because I don’t have to go through a ton of hoops to get mods. I think people misunderstood the campaign, it’s meant to be played through with different challenges, still doesn’t excuse the state the game launched in but SLZ had been doing a ton of damage control and it’s been working! Edit: the state the game launched was fucking deplorable but they did some massive cleanup. I respect them for that
I share your frustrations. I played bonelab expecting story and a plentiful amount of fun levels. I still had fun but the levels were tedious and there were so little. If i can get fusion i think it would be twice as fun
I’d buy boneworks by itself for quest because labworks will never replace the official polish that slz gives. It’s like yeah you can play half-life 2 on gmod but should you? Also slz could really optimize the game to perfection because its just boneworks
I really think that the next game is gonna be so good, i mean they figured out what do to with the story with boneworks and how mod support should look like on a vr game. if they could just combine the two the next game will be miles better, and with the second anniversary coming up this year, i really think that stress level zero can figure out the flaws with bonelab, and the flaws with boneworks, and make a revolutionary game.
Hey I watched you when you first started doing bonelab and I was there for the first speedrun stream I haven’t watched much since then but your content is just getting better and better
if you were disappointed with bonelab’s story mode and wanted more and have access to pcvr, you should check out the vertigo series. It has a great story mode, unique weaponry, and some good boss fights.
ngl i thought dream world was gonna be used in 14 - Home or... a boss fight were ford comes out of the floor and start yapping about mythos and how he got immortality and shit and start smashing the ground and trying to kill you, and when you kills you, your pc crashes.
i got realy lucky with the bonelab hub as i used the menu next to the avater mirror to get into longrun and didnt realise until after i beat the game that i had to open the quarantine door, i thought it was post game content
Day 4: of asking lop to do my silly little challenge: lop how bout you do this silly little challenge where you use the ragdoll mod to speed run the game. Basically you HAVE to crawl the entire time while ragdolled.
I like the game accept the tall character level (AT LAUNCH) because it was torture, if someone hot-glued my head into that to get my deepest darkest secrets I would just spill the beans before it happened fucking hell it was sooo annoying... I'll give it a 9/10
I wish the concept art actually had some significance. Maybe we'll see those strange enemies and locations in the B-SIDE. Also, the cover art for bonelab looks like the concept art location but changed a little, but the location itself appears nowhere in the game, I wish I was able to explore that place.
there wasent even a map at launch for moon base so it was preety much impossible to find where to go I had to watch a full game walkthrough just to find out how to finish the mission plus I love your vids keep up the good work
We need a free bonelab dlc that actually has an enjoyable long story filled campaign to apologize for the brain tumor I have injected into my headset at launch, I didn’t even care for sandbox I was purely anticipating a good campaign 😭
I still stand by this, if Stress Level Zero never decided to port their games to the quest, none of these issues would have ever happened. The quest fucking ruined the chances for a really good PC VR story game to come out like Boneworks and Half Life Alyx to ever come out again (exception to Vertigo 2 which was beautiful) My one message to slz, DO NOT DOWNGRADE YOUR GAMES FROM A MASTERPEICE TO SOMETHING 10x WORSE THAT CAN RUN ON A PLATFORM EQUIVELENT TO PS2 HARDWARE
This game was made for the quest, but the logic was "why not port it too pc as well?" There next game will be an actual full game unlike bonelab. It wasn't the quest port that made this game bad, it was a quest game first and foremost.
@@MinibattleLop yeah I wrote that comment half way through watching the video and after watching the whole thing I feel a lot better about Bonelab’s state knowing that the game was exactly what it was supposed to be the whole time and is more of an upgrade than a downgrade after all
Realy, i love Bonelab, it's a realy good game and i think holds up as what should be the standard for VR along with Boneworks. It honestly made me cry when i beat it the first time and inspired me to create my own game using boneworks physics.
I remember playing it when it came out, it was great lol, evem before patch 2 and 3, i made my mods and had fun, sure the community may not like my mods that well, but i had fun making them and using them, yes rn the game is great, only thing for the community, is to chill
I think I had a better time than most with the campaign mainly because I bought the game around about November(after the first and only update) but some of the problems you pointed out still happened to me. The one that most sort of connected me with your experience was the moon level. I didn’t read that map and climbed the building in the top left of the map and was so confused. I also had no idea what to do until a RU-vid video told me what to do for the level where you get all the glowing ball things to unlock the quarantine area
Honestly, bonelab seems like a 'filler' for the other games (deadFM and hall of the machine king) but in the best way possible. As in a "here's something to have fun with while you wait' type of game. It is quite literally MADE for modding, I'm pretty sure the lore OF bonelab is about mods (LavaGang). DeadFM and HOTMK are the sequels to boneworks, bonelab is like an appetizer. maybe idk love you Mini
I played at launch. If you look at the gacha ball, then small arrows appeared nearby (it WAS at the launch). I don't understand the indignation of people on the Internet. And yes, I've played boneworks before. The design of the spheres also led me to the fact that they can be opened. And a small puzzle in the hub also succumbed to me without any problems. People are just trying to justify their inattention with "bad game design".
The hub is undeniably bad design. Some people got it, but too the majority, they didn't. It's not obvious what you need to do if you just want to continue the campaign
Still, day one had a very mysterious feeling to it. The drawn doors below the hub? No meaning. Just there. Mine dive and the weird ass keycard doors? No explanation. The search for the skeleton npc and avatar?? NO WHERE to be found, and despite how shit some of the campaign levels were, it was still fun looking into every single corner for the gacha balls and perhaps even finding a new secret.
