Undertale is a game that partly at war with itself. It has all these amazing details and interactions depending on what you do, but that attention to detail makes moments like this feel all the more out of place. Like, why the hell would the guards allow you to remove their armour when they know you killed Undyne and will most likely kill them? Obviously I’m not blaming Toby Fox. There’s no way to account for every single piece of dialogue and every interaction. And honestly, these moments are just little things that can easily be explained away with ‘Toby didn’t have time to fix that.’ They feel odd, but they’re not major.
With this knowledge being in a genocide route, while they’re focused on attacking you, they might feel that the human not attacking, while weird, could be a good thing as it shows some mercy.
Another thing is with Sans if you LITERALLY only spare a single monster at the very end of genocide, he lets you go. YOU WIPED OUT HALF THE UNDERGOUND AND HE LETS YOU GO SCOT FREE ???
@@sirtopoftheworldeggyes, and when he notices that you've shown mercy to at least one or more monsters, he doesn't believe he has to try and stop you, since he believes the timeline will likely just reset to zero. In genocide, he believes you will erase EVERYTHING, and that there will be nothing left. Which is true, if you manage to beat him and align with Chara's desire to erase the world and move onto the next.
It's unfortunate that this game forces my hand by making me choose between propagating degenerate behavior or straight-up murder. Wish I could choose to spare them without affirming a deviant lifestyle. But hey, that's part of the reason I left this fandom and many like it.
