They do, in fact, need the comment that says “Run starts at 00 : 22”. Speed runners watch these videos, and they need to know that they have enough time to file their taxes, eat breakfast, do laundry, replay Mario 64, and run to McDonalds before the run starts.
LittleRainGames True speedrunners only eat FAST food. They specifically look for the food that was precooked and order those in a world record time of under 10 seconds within the whole drive-thru.
@@jimmykoelewijn1 He's one of the random encounter monsters. Whether you're going for a pacifist or genocide run, he tends to make the battles drawn out
When I bought this game for my little girls (who lost their mother), my youngest (6) did not want to leave Toriel's house. She sat in that place looking at it for awhile and talked to the screen for awhile. I left her alone with it til she said she was done. I was so pleased when they both played it without hurting anyone. Thank you Toby Fox for this game.
Oh, I had bought it some time ago on a recommendation from my sister that it was a good game that my girls might like. Of course, daddy had to help them through the hard parts, but they have seen all the game through to the (pacifist) end. Wasn't much longer than maybe six months ago the eldest actually managed to play it all the way to the end by herself. But yes, they like it very much, but they want to save Asriel!
Is it me, or did SGDQ feel way more relaxed than AGDQ this year? It felt like the runners, couch, and audience all had a little more freedom and didn't just mechanically follow the run process. Felt a lot more like a big gaming family event like it was years ago.
I love that every time Metroid comes up, save the frames wins by a WIDE margin, but Undertale DEMANDS that you hug the goat. What kind of monster would value 20 seconds over 1 goat hug? Also, kill the animals, save the frames.
Hey everyone! I did commentary (I'm the skinny dude in the Sans shirt in the middle) and thanks for all of the kind words! I was super nervous since this was my first time doing this type of thing but I think it turned out pretty good. Only one question though, where DOES that door go?
Thanks! I stream Undertale runs + other stuff over on my twitch channel Shayy. My current PB for Neutral Any% is 57:46 and my PB for True Pacifist is 1:27:09 .
I remember the first time I played this, I did a pacifist run and when Flowey showed up saying he would delete my file I thought that was the end of the game and I got a crappy ending so I closed it. Then my brother told me "play it again" and I just thought "oh damnit, it's gonna be one of those finish it twice for real ending game". To my surprise I got the nightmare fight and couldn't sleep all night.
jtbirdACC you don’t have to play it twice for the pacifist ending, as long as your kill count is still 0 at the end of neutral you can continue from just before asgore, go do the dates if you didn’t, then do the pacifist ending
@@cluelesslawdamercyruthless6865 first time i bought the game i was completely unaware of omega flowey, and when i saw him, I had nightmares, now, I'm completely desensisitized after 10 genocide runs, 6 neutrals, and 9 pacifists.
4 years of playing this game, watching other people play it, playing it again, talking about it on Reddit, and it never once occurred to me that “but it refused,” was a pun.
Why was the Undertale music during the new home segment just the absolute best music to read these uplifting donations to. Bless this game’s soundtrack.
17:15 Fun fact: this “bridge” is actually a rock formation that Papyrus painted over to look more like a rickety wooden bridge. (He added the rope, too.) [I spent half an hour looking at Papyrus’ dialogue for each room, then doing the same with Papyrus+Undyne.]

Funny thing is, I actually died to the knife at the Mad Dummy fight. I'm not even joking, I was at like 4 health, and I forgot there was a knife attack.
Because I set the video to .25 speed and wanted to know if there was special text, and don’t want to force anyone else to do so, it said this: “You threw the stick away. Then you picked it back up.” If I didn’t miss a word in there, at least. Sad to see no unique text, looks like it was just default text.
Maybe Toby should program so the game knows when the player is trying to do a speedrun Um wow, what the hell. This comment sat with 0 likes a month ago and at over 300. Thank you all so much
Or maybe some characters would have changed dialogue that's faster than the normal dialogue, but unskippable, like a single text box that says "I can see that you're in a rush, so let's not waste time here." And some bosses would skip their early phases or some of the repetitive text at the end of their fights, and lightly chastise you for impatience.
I hope someone does a speed run of the Genocide route someday. As heartwarming as the Pacifist ending is, I find the Genocide route to be equally fascinating. I guess I am wracked with a perverted sense of sentimentality.
Matt Thompson Like Robert MacIntosh said, the Genocide Route is very dull and boring to watch. It is also very RNG-heavy and makes it unoptimal to speedrun, as someone can get encounters faster than another runner, and you can't control the encounters as they are random and is RNG-based. This is why they either speedrun a normal ending or True Pacifist, as it has less RNG sequences.
Matt Thompson the genocide run does things to your version of undertale I've never finished it, but I heard that it really screws with your version of undertale
So, a glitch (I think) I discovered, you don’t actually have to take the long elevator, not even the first time. You can just walk in and walk back out and you’ll be wherever the elevator would put you.
I’m imagining one of those animations that guy did of the legend of zelda speedruns for this, but you just see the character get the punch card, pull out a pen, and write “free pass” or something on it, and just show it to everyone while just not even stopping to talk
I honestly thought the box staying where it was when he walked away at 26:39 was an interaction I hadn't seen before. The dialogue box saying something self deprecating while you walk away and leave it behind would actually be hilarious. For added humor the next time you interact with something it either doesn't show up at all or shows up and insults you. Now thaaaaaaaaat's Undertale humor
