I'm late, but i just realized something. If asgore did take one human soul, and go to the surface, he would still need to kill people. What else, those children may have killed some monsters, without toriel knowing. So, who say's those kid's were innocent? Also, at least the way he did it, asgore was killing them when they were in his home. Technically, they were invaders. If he went to the surface, he would need to kill people in their own homes
Yeah poor asgore... Toriel is not too nice... Toriel not given him a second chance... He just want tori back and his children and his kingdom and freedom... Why toriel?
The thing is that if Asgore did take the first soul to get to the surface and collect more, it would've gotten the whole thing done faster. Her problem was that by waiting for the humans to come to him, he was dragging things out unnecessarily, causing the monsters of the underground to suffer more. That is more or less what she actually said. But you can argue she was still being unfair to Asgore.
