Asgore probably does have those stats but he doesn’t want to fight frisk in that battle so his stats are lower. It’s like if you put a professional boxer against a kid in a wheelchair and forced them to fight. (For the sake of the allegory, the boxer does not like beating up disabled children)

Check stats= Canon Code stats= gameplay purposes But this does make Undyne the Undying the strongest monster excluding Flowey/Asriel, which is great for me since she's my favorite character in the game
I’d say she’s the strongest if it came to stats alone, but the strategies of each monster also counts. After all, Sans would be easier than Whimsun if he never dodged

The ATK stat could just be a combination of his actual strength and the difficulty of the bullet patterns. As for his DEF, that could be a combination of his defense and hitpoints.
@@EaterOfGeese Each hit does exactly 1 Karma damage, but Karma (mostly) ignores invincibility frames. Also, Toby definitely made Sans's check stats that way as a joke.
@@Hiveatelno, no they aren't. The only thing they don't have is determination funnily enough. It takes getting to the very end of the true pacifist route to finally get frisk truly determined again. I mean, there are hints in the game pointing to the fact that frisk might have been trying to commit a funny lil act on that mountain, and that they didn't have the best home situation possibly.
@@Hiveatel yes, but did you know frisk is not nearly as determined as they could be? In the end boss fight of the pacifist route we get to see what a human really fights like when they are truly determined. Also frisk isn't hateful, and that's why they deal so little damage to monsters (that and they are a kid without a proper weapon.) in the genocide route we get to see how much damage a human can deal to monsters when they actually want to kill them. So yeah they aren't really "holding back" it's more like whatever reason they decided to go to a mountain known for causing death is holding them back.
It is said in the game. (Snowdin library if now waterfall) that when a monster doesnt want to really fight or doing his best to kill his stas will lower as well as his defense.
@@Grim-c8n it's even better when you realize the ONLY fight that those two items make like 100% easier, you don't have to worry about damage, because he only has one HP, and you just have to get him tired via making him dodge.
Why doesn't he have more though? The player obviously deals way way more than 1 of damage by that point so there was no need to put him so low in HP, the code stats may guide a bit though they're not the canon ones, so i think Sans is supposed to have low HP(perhaps 1 as the base stat), we have to acknowledge that eveb though the code stats may help to guide they're still non-canon so he may not have exactly 1 HP anyway
And thus is why I believe Sans has more than 1 HP, seeing as even though the real stats say he does, there is no evidence to confirm nor deny it ingame.
This also disproves all the people saying that sans has one hp, even though we just did an insane number of damage and Toby probably just wanted to make sure he'd actually die when we hit him, but nooo, people just had to go make that dumb "theory" that's more of a headcanon then anything!
my favorite thing is that asriel check says he has infinite attack and defense and while he does have 9999 defense making him basically invincible to everything that infinite attack is only 8
I wonder if anyone has ever altered the actual stats in the game files? Like for example if they gave Mettaton Neo a high defense stat what would it do to the game if suddenly you couldn't one-shot a normally one-shottable character? Probably freeze/crash in all honesty since it deviates from the fight that was scripted, but...maybe not? Toby (Clever-Like-A-)Fox has already been known to stick secrets in his games for curious, bored, and/or ⭐️determined⭐️ players to find, so maybe he made a little treat for anyone who tries to monkey with the character stats?
I think we should stop looking in the code and stating that it so badly matters to the overall game, if we have stats that are shown to us, and we do alot of damage, making me feel like frisk is doing this out of fear and pain with self defense in a serious situation, good on toby for getting the right numbers to get asgore to feel emotional. The ingame stats are probably the ones they would have in a neutral emotional state,but as they are made of magic,their feelings are reflected in how hard they hit you and how hard they get hit. It's the same way LOVE works. You do not really get stronger once you kill monsters,it just gets easier to kill whitout feeling,and as such you get stronger. You feel less,qnd as such you get harder to hit. Same gpes for monsters. If they want to kill you they get stronger,and vice versa
Files stats are the false ones as the damage can get higher or lower than the codes damages + stats can’t be - not to mention asgore regularly takes multiple 121 of damages in his fight against frisk but still fights With small calculation we get that asgore can takes the damage of 33 time before dying
My guess to why Asgore's defence is so low is probably to pull off the huge healthbar he has ingame without making it take an eternity to actually deplete.
Someone should make a mod where the stats are game accurate, like making asgores att and def actually 80 att and 80 def as an example. A true lore accurate run. Might break some events but I think it'd still be fun.
Defenses and Attacks in codes are made to stabilize the fight. Not because "LOOK THIS IS THE TRUTH, GAME LIED TO YOU!". I am a programmer and coder I know this because I tried to make some games-(I am a failure) so it might be cause of weird math in the code so your fight would be stabilized. If you go with Chara's path, Defenses will decrease for monsters but for you it would increase so to show how strong you're get. What about sans' 1 defense, maybe Toby Fox was lazy about it but or maybe you just increased your attack enough, so sans' Defense not decreased. Idk maybe like that. I used this system many times.
I feel the coded HP values might be the exception. After all, we don't see HP in the Check dialogue, plus Mettaton NEO and Sans have vastly different HP values despite both being intended to be killed in one hit.
its canon that asgore does have 80 atk and defense, but lots of signs in waterfall state that the damage a monster takes/recieves is entirely dependant on the intent of the attacker. if the attacker wants to hurt you, you will take more damage. hense why toriel asks "you really hate me that much?" because the only way to one shot a monster is if you REALLY want to kill them hense, asgore didnt want to kill the human in undertale, so he did less damage. you can see how OP he'd be if he wanted to hurt you in Undertale Yellow
Asgores stat disparity between his stats and how strong he is in battle shows in a meta way how much asgore holds back Imagine a genocide fight with the checks stats being the actual stats
As other people in the comments have stated, Asgore’s Check Stats are likely a reflection of what he's capable of when he isn't holding back. His stats in the code are much lower because he wants to give Frisk a fighting chance. That being said, I would like to see someone go into the code and replace Asgore’s ATK and DEF with 80, just to see how difficult his fight would be if he wasn't holding back.
What if [Check] tells you how frisk sees the monsters... which can be wrong because Monsters' stats should fluxuate with how they feel at that moment Not the begining of battle.
There is actually a very interesting theory about this The reason why monsters in UT never dealt the damage from their game stats is because of Frisk's power The theory says that Frisk can adapt to any enemy in their fight. The stronger the enemy, the stronger the adaptation This is why we never were one shotted This theory is counted as one of the canon theories in UT lore community (aka this is still a theory, but there is high chance that its canon. Its like narra-Chara) Tho, I don't remember the explanation of why this is might be canon, but anyway
I think the canon stat is true, Asgore wpuld be 80/80 in prime condition and with a warrior spirit, but by the time you meet him he's so depressed that he only fights with the hopes of dying, so it makes sense that he lowers his defense
Keep in mind Asgore is really holding back with Frisk, I remember something about the other souls getting trapped mostly because Asgore was not holding back so they basically couldnt beat him and just gave up, after all his canon stats shows hes really strong, and based on some dialogues you can see Asgore was really determined into getting his revenge but slowly regretting to the point he doesnt even want to see us, undyne is strong but asgore without remorse is a whole unit no wonder why hes the king
THANK YOU !! For once someone understand that we have to separate lore and file stats If Asriel really had inf att in his file stats, Frisk would've been one shot in every attack. If Toriel didn't have negative def in his file stats you wouldn't be guarantee to kill her in one shot.
Asgore's stats could make sense if we remember how he's supposed to be a pushover, and so maybe he puts up fake stats to make you give up, saving him the grief of taking another life.

Undertale also lies about crossing the barrier. Alphys tells you that you would need a human soul AND a monster soul, but you cross without Asgore's soul because Flowey destroys it.
The only stats in code i believe are actually canon are gaster's stats, which interestingly is considered gaster, instead of the names for any of his fragment's sprites like mysteryman, its just straight up gaster
It IS the job of the developer to lie to the audience and that can lead to surprising moments. Heck, Secant Wind goes into detail about this subject in a recent episode of Design Delve. Which leads the question: IS everything said about Deltarune a lie as well? We can only wait to see.
It's the canon stats, and the reason why we deal so much damage is ij the genocide route, we're just strong. And in the pacifist route, sometimes characters just simply hold back and for the mist part it shows just how much more powerful humans are. It's not that Undyne the Undying has -like -4 eefense or something, if you know what I mean.

The thing ı can’t believe is if those stats were canon then sans could one shot mettaton neo (his defense is -40000 and his max HP İS 30000), could kill asgore with 110 shots ( if he doesn’t dodge and don’t forget sans’s 1 bone can damage something like 60 per second because of karma effect)
Actual states are made for the battle to go as intended, asgore deals 10 damage and takes even more damage them what we can deal in pacifist in his fight if he had 80 attack amd defense we would deal >1 damage
