The whole "You'd be dead where you stand thing" is, to me, scarier then actually fighting him in the genocide route. In genocide, you as the player realize that you deserve to be punished. In this route, pacifist or neutral, If he hadn't made that promise to toriel, even if you were being a true pacifist, he would absolutely decimate you, right their and then in the forest as soon as you walked through the door. No matter your intentions, without that promise you never would have made it past snowdin

Sans devotion to his promise to Toriel is amazing. Especially for a character who claims he doesn't care about anything anymore and says he doesn't give anything his all. He watches over Frisk and spends time with them, judging their actions. There was a high chance that ANY Frisk from any reset would be merciless, or at least one that kills his brother, but he keeps his promise. He breaks his promise in ONE route only, and that's genocide, if only to get the player to reset and start over in a route where he doesn't have to break his promise. In every other route, he keeps it till the bitter end, even in routes where almost nothing is left. Even if you kill Papyrus and Toriel. Why? Because Toriel shared a laugh with him. That such a simple thing could form a relationship where Sans gives his all for a person other than his brother. Sans maybe an immature prankster, but he's one with more devotion and loyalty than practically anyone in the game. And that's what makes him a great character, besides all the memes.

Snowdrake's a pretty tragic character when you think about it: - One day, his mother died. Alphys tried to revive her but ended up just turning her into an amalgamate. - His father doesn't think Snowdrake will be a great comedian. - Due to how his family thinks of him, he ran away. - His brother Chilldrake keeps trying to find him, but to no avail.

I walked into my nearby coffee shop and was delighted to hear this song playing on speakers in the background.

While Sans theme echoes the lazy prankster nature of the character, and Megalovania highlights how determined he can be when he's pushed, this tune speaks to what's underneath all that: a sad man, who's basically given up on everything.

The fact that Sans could've actually killed you was scary as hell, thank god Toriel told him not to. Also this skeleton can sure catch you off guard with his humor.

Like one man said: "You can hear rain in the distance all throughout the song. The rain is somewhere else, and seems much more distance than it is because of the serene music covering it up. But it's not as far as it sounds. Now, picture this. You're on a Pacifist Route. Everyone's laughter and joy makes it seem as though a Genocide Route is so far away, almost impossible. But, in reality, it's just the click of a few buttons away. So, the serene music covering up the sound of the rain is like the joy of the Pacifist Route covering up the despair of the Genocide Route. It seems so far away, and it is somewhere else, but in reality, that somewhere else is very close by."

Toby fox isn't just a average cool guy he's the one who sparks joy, Toby fox is the best he truly has a unique talent. wow this was a cheesy comment but still holds up

Rain is often referencing to tears. Sans isnt crying now. Not here. Not with you. But somewhere in the ruins, there's a mother who mourns her failure to save her child. She weeps.. And the rain falls. But somewhere in Hotland, in a laboratory, there's a Scientist filled with regret over mistakes she can't fix. She weeps.. And the rain falls. But somewhere in Snowdin there's a tall skeleton who hopes to become part of the Royal Guard.. But he could never do so. And he weeps.. and the rain falls. But somewhere in Waterfall, there's the Head of the Royal Guard who must fight for her people, fighting even when she is struck down. And yet, she fails. She weeps.. And the rain falls. But somewhere in the Castle, there's a lonesome Father, broken after hundreds of years of being alone.. Mourning his children and the lives he ended. He weeps.. And the rain falls. And yet.. There's a flower.. Who can't feel anything. A flower with vivid recollections of who he was.. But could never turn back. He does not weep. And yet, the rain still falls. Undertale had so much going on. Epic fights and touching moments, funny puns and heartbreaking scenes... Yet, this song ended up being stuck in my head the most. Sure, this song was played as Sans had dinner with Frisk and revealed the promise he made with Toriel, and that had definitely already made the song memorable. But this song is more than that. It just leaves an odd feeling in your heart... Loneliness? Sadness? Nostalgia? Relaxation? Happiness? I have no idea, and that's the beauty of it. A lot of comments on "It's Raining Somewhere Else" videos I see are people reminiscing, telling their stories and feelings, some are having an existential crisis, while others are sharing what they think the title of this song means. It just really gets you to think and feel. Truly, this is one phenomenal song, in an incredible game.

How can this scene be any different? EASY The moment you follow Sans into the shortcut and appear at the table, Sans and Frisk somehow have a brown coat and brown fedora. The entire scene is in black and white, and Sans is speaking in a Brooklyn accent to humor it. He goes on to say: Now, i hate makin' promises, and this woman, I don't even know her name. but... Someone who sincerely likes bad jokes... has an integrity you can't say "no" to. However if I didn't, well let's just say you'd be sleepin with the fishes.

Funny how this song describes Sans' constant struggle between timelines. He always knows it's raining somewhere else... that somewhere else all his friends are dead... that somewhere else they're all on the surface... "You got food, drink, friends is what you have to do really necessary?" It's sad really...

This is the song that portrays the true sans. not the 'cool skeleton who can crack a joke and can kill you 500 times'. This song really brings out how sad sans's life is, and how worse it would be without the people around him. A world where everything functions properly without his friend. His true friend.

At the start, I get a image of someone standing outside a subway holding an umbrella when it is raining. No?

I never realized this before, but during the segments with the rain sound, you can faintly hear what sounds to me like a train station. The echoed squeaking of wet sneakers on a linoleum floor; the distant reverberation of a voice through a loudspeaker; the muted rattling of passing rail cars; the quiet, yet sharp beeping of ticket machines...

this song has always invoked a feeling of emptiness for me... I choose to interpret this song as meaning that somewhere at any given time... it's raining. Someone out there is sad. No matter how happy things around you may seem. It is raining somewhere else. While the concept of that may seem complete enough... while the question may seem to simply be "do you care? Is it important to you that someone else is sad right now?"... I feel as if it goes deeper. Personally I would say that I do care. However it leaves me feeling empty knowing... that doesn't really matter. There's nothing I could do to help them in that moment. Whoever it may be feeling that sadness... whoever that random person is that i've never even met before... it hurts to know that they're suffering... that there's nothing I can do to help them with that. I simply have to let it happen. I suppose that's my full thought on this specific subject... however I would like to end this comment by simply saying that it does get better. Whether or not that means anything to you is your own choice... but I truly hope that it does. The sad truth is that there isn't really any way to just fix that sadness most of the time... you just have to see it out to the other side. So if you have any desire to end it all... if even a slight "would things be better?" or "would it even matter?" in your head... you're going to be okay. It does get better. Ultimately no matter how hard this life may be... the good moments are absolutely worth seeing it through to the end. Don't try to convince yourself they aren't. There are so many people out there who care about you. I care about you... and I don't even know who you are. It honestly kind of baffles me that the guy who made this is so much like any other person on the internet. Sure, he's bilingual, he's a really shy guy on camera, but the stuff he puts out is just so generally out of this world that it's almost impossible to picture a guy like that making it. It's like learning that your uncle's the dude who makes supernovas happen, it's just odd to think about. ...Guy's still great though, as little as I know about him.

Sans is much more than a meme, and this soundtrack very explains why, as it's not just about being nice to listen to or being hard to make, it's about what it does or what it's for. "It's raining somewhere else"? You might think this is referencing a genocide route, and if you're doing a pacifist route, this may seem so far away, almost like it could never happen. But it's just a few clicks away. This is why you can hear ambient sounds of rain throughout the song. It's far. It's "somewhere else" but not out of hearing distance. Never too far. It's just raining somewhere else. It doesn't have to be raining for it to BE raining. Sans is right when he says "you would be dead where you stand". You really would be. Sans even said he hates making promises, and he would have just killed you if Toriel didn't say anything. This means if Toriel wasn't so loving, you wouldn't have even made it past Snowdin. That's why everyone makes genocide out to be so bad. Because it is. You're exploiting others who care and believe that you'll do the right thing, even if you don't. Just like papyrus believed in you. This is why at the end of genocide, sans fights you then. and only THEN. Because he can't afford to care about anything anymore, he made the promise to Toriel because if it makes his friends happy he will do so. That's why he never kills you. He wants to break the promise but he can't. Even so, in genocide, when you fight Sans, he's not just doing it because you killed everyone, because he wants to frustrate you so much to the point where you'll go back and be different. But he still knows; he just doesn't show it. That's why it's raining somewhere else. Sans isn't just the half-assed skeleton that has a cool theme or has the ketchup obsession. He's the guy that would have stopped you even PLAYING undertale.

I actually really doubt that Sans would really kill you on Pacifist/Neutral run. He is more like a wise judge who watches your actions. I think this was just a way to warn you about all your sins, small or big they are, whatever. UPD: Just realised he was probably not posing HIMSELF as a danger. He was warning you that without his protection YOU would be in DANGER. You know, he actually kinda helped you on the Hotland bridge, etc! This is one of the most underrated soundtracks in Undertale

I'm definitely in the "I'm alone at a restaurant in the city on rainy night" club. It kinda sounds like ya've been there with someone for hours, just having a great time. Everyone else has left, and the receptionists are deciding not to close the restaurant to make you leave, just from seeing how happy you two are. I'm posting this comment before finishing my high school homework, and whenever I listen to this song it really gives me great hopes for the future, where me and the people I know will be spending our time in a house / apartment together, relaxing, and telling terrible jokes. I don’t like the way most people see sans: OmG bIg WaLkInG mEmE. Sans lost gaster. Which could have hinted in the genocide route that papyrus is all that’s left to call family. And all that emotional loss and stress turns to anger. anger turns into hate. and hate gets someone killed. this single scene of undertale makes sense to add. it lets us uncover sans’s feeling of insecurity subtly. Sans just needs a chill pill. I have played undertale since 2015 and still mourn over what sans went through

This song is truly a masterpiece. I tried to explain how it feels to me, and it ended up becoming a short of sorts. ~~~ The girl glanced at her watch. She'd been sitting at the table for 20 minutes now... If he was this late, he probably wasn't going to show up. She sighed for what felt like the hundredth time that night and watched the musicians from her seat. What a sad song they were playing... she turned to look at the window next to her seat at the rain starting to fall as a single tear rolled down her face. The boy couldn't believe how late he was already. He had to go back to grab an umbrella because of the rain, and couldn't run that fast due to the slippery sidewalk. He quietly hummed a soft tune to himself as he walked, the rain pouring around him. The girl was still alone... why did she bother waiting this long? She should really leave by now, shouldn't she? But despite that, she stayed right where she was. She didn't care that she was crying, even in a place like this. But finally, she looked out the window again to see him coming towards the restaurant, umbrella in hand. "An umbrella...? But it's not raining," She thought. ~~~ It's not really a finished thought, but you can interpret that however you'd like to. Thanks for reading.

Listening to this is sad, as it just reminds me of how much i miss my childhood and how the early 2020s suck so far

Sooooo, I wanna talk about this song for a hot minute since its my favorite one in the entire catalog. So Sans in the game has several different songs that are connected to him. You've got his theme that plays when he's at Grilbys and is just his song in general. Then youve got Megalovania and the song that might play when you fight sans. And then there's this one that plays in the restaurant...but it also plays somewhere else. It plays in Sans's secret room that you can only gain access to in a pacifist run. The place where Sans is truly truly alone. This is Sans's theme, the one he hides. The ones thats somber, the one that's reflective. This song is Sans. Its raining somewhere else.

"Why is it called it's raining somewhere else" someone might ask. because it's raining somewhere else. and you feel sad because you know that. Even though the conditions around you are happy, and you know very well that you're happy, deep down, you wonder if you're feeling miserable. Somewhere, someone's having a bad day. Somewhere, it's raining. Sometime it's going to be monday. That's life. You can't appreciate without negativity. Someone's not feeling as good as you. just thinking could change your mood. change your way of thinking right now. maybe you don't care if someones feeling bad. maybe you do. that's up to you. does it matter to you? that's up to you too. :)

Can only imagine a nice 3 course meal, on an upscale cruise ship. Sunset filtering through the windows, as the boat rocks back and forth, as you lean back, soaking in the atmosphere...

Delta Rune is great and all, and yes, I was excited as hell when I heard it came out. But Undertale hits different. It was a huge part of my childhood, and my childhood is still going. The nostalgia from this game is precious to me. The game is fading away and it hurts my heart to know that. The soundtrack hits me hard enough to make me cry from the memories. I wish I could thank the game, Toriel, Sans, Papyrus, Alphys, Undyne, Temmie, heck, even Flowey. I wish I could thank them for making me so happy.

IDEA: There should be a FUN event where, toriel is far more protective of frisk and has a line implying that there is someone like asgore, but for this guy, we learn that he was close to toriel but betrayed her before we even leave the ruins. And in this LUCK even, if we want to get out of the ruins, we have to resort to violence against toriel because she can only get SPARED if you leave her just one hit away from death, then threaten her, and when we meet flowey afterwards, he is calling us an idiot and laughs. But when we get to snowdin, we get the usual, sans follows us but only his siluete is visible, but when he gets to the handshake part, we learn what is different in this FUN event, because, instead of doing the whoopie cushion joke, we are initially thrown into battle, sans's attacks are just a tiny bit easier to doge than in his geno fight, song that might play when you fight sans plays, and the whole point is to survive until papyrus interrupts and the rest of the game continues with just some differences in the dialogue (mainly in snowdin, where he tells you to "give into your human nature" and "FIGHT! I KNOW YOU WANT IT DEEP DOWN!" in most of your combat encounters in snowdin except for your fight with papyrus, where he desperately tells you to stop after hitting him once, but gets angry if you don't hit him one time). As you've probably guessed, in this reality, sans didn't promise toriel to not harm humans, and now toriel feel betrayed by sans and gets asgore flashbacks when mentioning him in the ruins, and sans deeply regret refusing to make the promise if it means rebuilding his friendship with toriel, but finds it hard to resist harming frisk, with his meeting in the core in Pacifist being more to train himself not to harm humans rather than being just being a regular sans encounter like the other million ones (which in every route that's not Pacifist would be much more menacing) and also, in that core meeting with him, he starts off with "aCciDEnTAly" shooting you with a gaster blaster but blocking the Lazer with a bone right before it touches the soul. And if you did the geno route, his fight would be more like that meme with wario saying "I've won, but at what cost?"

The title is a reference to Goner Kid. If you bring her an umbrella she says "An umbrella? But it's not raining."

I'm playing it at 2x speed. I feel better about it.

Alternate timeline: Sans: * Y o u ' d b e d e a d w h e r e y o u s t a n d Frisk: *Why is that? Sans: *...You probably wouldn't understand. Frisk: *Getting to know more about you, I feel like I probably would. Sans: *..? Frisk: *The amount of stress and worry that's put on your shoulders with the thought of "What happens next?" It makes you think what if I do something that was unexpected, like harm, to someone else or even myself. *You can't tell anyone else about these things since nobody remembers anything after the timeline resets. So you have to keep them to yourself *Not knowing what to do about this, you try to use humour as a coping mechanism. But you have to be careful not to make one insensitive, or reminding you of your problems. *Wishing that one day, the next Frisk could do the Pacifist Run, and letting you enjoy yourself at least a little bit, before they decide to reset and murder everyone in their path. *People calling you lazy even though you're going through a lot of tough mental issues, and if you tell them they'll think it's an excuse before the next reset. *Other people labeling you as a comedian or a meme, even though they don't realize there's much more inside you, locked away. Never to be seen or heard of again. *Knowing with each of the genocide runs your last bit of hope for existing, your brother Papyrus, will be gone in the blink of an eye, only to feel slightly better, once the timeline resets once more. *Having to keep promises for people who also enjoy puns that puts even more weight, to the heavy pile on your shoulders. *And the fear that you might break your promise and accidently kill me from a fit of surprise, not predicting a different me would bump into you so suddenly. *Making new friends, to only be thrown back to Stage 1 after their memories have been wiped. *Having you think mostly of negative thoughts, murder, loss, resets, and more things than someone normally would and/or should. *Someday, hoping this endless cycle will eventually end, finally finished with the madness. *Just the fact that sometimes you may feel so lost, alone, and afraid. Even though you know you would be correct in most circumstances *Trying to fight this depression, only to be reminded of why you feel this way through every reset. *Knowing that the player can wipe everyone's memories with a few clicks of some buttons. *Knowing that the endless spiral of these actions, of these emotions, of these losses, of every moment that passes will never end and never change. No matter how much you try to end it. *... **Knowing that one day, you'll end being dead where you stand, yet knowing that you chose to do so. But we don't know that, since you don't seem to be having those kinds of thoughts.* *With knowing that, you would want to prevent it from happening for a little while you'd kill me. So you could please Papyrus, Undyne, and pretty much any monster in the underground (except for Toriel that is) Before I respawn again, putting you back at square one. *Yet you still are open to other people/monsters and have friends who may not always remember what happened because of the resets, but they still love and support you. Unlike the cliche. At least it's not all that bad, right? It could be worse. Sans: ... *You really must understand a lot more than I do, kid.

Thought I should point out the neat little trick Fox does with the background noise in this scene. It makes it feel like you're in a corner of a crowded room despite there being practically nobody else there, and then it dulls when the song comes on the same way you tune out other noise during a conversation. Or, you could look at it as illustrating Sans's whole problem, he's a melancholy guy whose own struggles with himself get lost in the noise of other, more active characters while he takes the sidelines. The number of essays in the comments should speak volumes about how this song gets you to think about him, and I think that's what Fox wanted. It's supposed to get you in the mood of "what's this guy's deal?" the whole way through.

This gives me the feeling of waiting on a bus, when its cold and raining and seeing a nice café, that warms up the entire street, and iits light is so soft, and i go in, and get a cooie and some hot cocoa, and its dark outside now, and i missed my bus, but i dont care, and i take my book, and read until the café is closed, and now its a beautiful night

I love how in the background it sounds like a bustling street from a cafe. I just felt like i had to say that

people make crazy theories about the name "its raining somewhere else" but i think the name should be taken more litterally, the only place it could rain would be on the surface. maybe this could refrence that were getting close to the end of the game, like were close to the surface, so much so you can hear the rain above. considering that the whole conversation is about how your close to the end and that this is the last time you'll see sans until judgment hall, i think this is a likely thing. or it could just be a nice ambience yk?

The first 40 seconds are absolutely ethereal. The song is great in its entirety of course, but that snippet gives me such a comfortable feeling of isolation.

For some strange reason, whenever I feel stressed or angry this song really helps me calm down. Its so soothing

Sans being stuck in a indefininate loop with genocide and mercy runs, he cant just live a normal life

I'm listening to this literally 4 years after undertale came out and I'm just now noticing some of the really gorgeous detail put into this music. Just noticing sans' leitmotif being subtly put into the melody of this song is crazy to me, and just makes me appreciate how amazing this game's music is. Toby Fox really does have a talent.

sometimes my digital media teacher would have this song (along with other lo-fi remixes of undertale music) playing in his classroom i realized that it was the seniors that hang out in his class that always chose the music which was pretty cool

everyone. keeps saying this song reminds them of happy peaceful times but, for me it feels like a song that would play when you are all alone. like at a nice meal, you planned for your family, but they passed away years ago, so you sit alone at the family sized table. missing them. missing your happiness.

This feels like something missing, Like a part of me i can remember. It's almost bittersweet. I can't recall but it feels like pain, hope, and a vague feeling that something happened before to remind you of this song.. like a word I can't recall as hard as I try thinking of it. Like a presence with no form. Like a memory of when you'd used to come home and watch your favorite TV show after school. Or that fear when you use to turn off the lights and run to your room. It feels so familiar, yet so haunting. ⭐ *This fills you with NOSTALGIA*

Thinking back on all the good times you had with this game, constantly re-playing it to get all the endings, to see all the secrets, all the phone calls... It fills you with *nostalgia.*
