Thanks for comparing it with other pres. There are so many videos out there that don’t do this. Having a frame of reference really helps. Funny enough I went from being interested in the UTAs to being reminded how awesome APIs are
Finally a great demo of this pre! To me, the MPDI is very clean overall even with the pushed settings you used. And that Coil pre was very smooth and easily colored the guitar the most.
Great demo. I've always wanted to track with a UTA at some point. I did prefer it to the AEA and seeing Fred designed it, and I have an SMP500, I might prefer this to this as well.
That’s the best thing and also the worse thing about the APIs, it just depends on the situation. The APIs can be very present and clear when backed off, but I really love them when pushed harder. You can push the UTA preamps insanely hard though, I’ve been really impressed. I’m working on a video of UTAs new summing mixer with their preamps, I’m able to push mixes insanely hard with the UTA preamps.
I had these to review with their Pyra Sum summing mixer. I’m not keeping any of it, I just had it all to do these reviews. I’m definitely interested in the Pyra Sum with their preamps, so it will be something I’ll consider in the near future if I decide to move away from my API console. I would have definitely kept one rack of these preamps if I were recording more drums here. Really amazing and versatile pres!
