In November 2016, Canada's military began investigating a mysterious sound emanating from the bottom of the Arctic. The strange noise forced sea animals to leave. Desperate, Inuit hunters in the area filed a report. Ottawa locals described the sound as being so powerful it could be heard through the hulls of their boats.
Locals described the sound as a "pinging," emanating from somewhere on the seafloor in the Hecla and Fury Strait. Described further as a hum or a beep, the sound's thought to have originated in Igloolik, an Inuit hamlet northwest, nearly 120 kilometers or 74 miles.
Reports of the sound reached the military. As part of Operation Limpid, an Sp-140 Aurora patrol aircraft searched for the source. The operation was tied to a surveillance program whose goal was to locate and eliminate threats targeting Canada and its interests. The aircraft's initial acoustic search failed to detect any abnormalities in the area. Even multi-sensor searches found nothing.

one time when at the beach i swam a bit farther out to sea. I reached a sort of drop off where the ocean sloped quickly into deeper water, as i was out there and there weren't any ships or any people nearby i just swam there, without moving for a while. It surprises me to this day just how loud the ocean is! I could hear so many clicks and pops at about 20 feet under water. I later told my dad about what i heard and he laughed and said: "if you ever hear the ocean go quiet, swim away as fast as you can". lol idk if i should be scared or amused.
@Nvcturnal
@Nvcturnal 4 года назад
Same way if you're in a forest with birds chirping all around and they suddenly stop. Survivalists say it means you're likely being stalked by a predator. Birds go silent to literally watch the 'hunt'. They aren't exactly on our side lol. They could easily go berserk and sound the alarm if they really wanted to warn us. They don't go quiet as a defense for themselves, as most predatory animals big enough to hunt humans wouldnt bother with lil birds. So the natural explanation is they go quiet to wait and see what happens to us lmao kinda morbid but there is also a sense of respect in the animal kingdom on the predator hierarchy. Many reef fish that sharks won't even eat still tend to hide when a shark appears, you will see them peeking from the corals even though they are not the shark's target.

I did this when I was younger whilst on holiday in Spain. Reached what looked like the edge of a cliff. Just a sheer drop off from the pale sand bed into unimaginable darkness. I remember the water being extremely cold as I reached further out towards the edge. The sand bed was already a good depth beneath me (further than I could reach holding my breath) and the drop was absolutely terrifying. It was giving off similar danger vibes as being really high up. I felt tiny and vulnerable and it was almost like I was being drawn or sucked down and out towards the ocean. I’d never do it again but it was an interesting experience. I was a teen and looking back at the danger of it all as a fully matured adult I question my own sanity in swimming that far out. The ocean is an absolutely terrifying place.

"The Pings" is definitely a submarine sonar. I've been retired for 20+ years so I can't say what make/model of sonar it is, but I suspect its a BSY-x or its successor. Frequency range is typical of U.S. sonars and hearing it in the Arctic is NOT a surprise. That particular transmission was a "sector" search probably x-degrees wide by y-degrees. used to search a given window of the azimuth.

The beluga whale sounds remind me very much of when dogs (especially older dogs that have lived with humans for many years) will make funny “talking” sounds while moving their voice up and down to approximate human speech. They are great at mimicking humans. And of course whales are equally if not more intelligent. I think they notice that when people talk, others react and give them things or help them. Dogs and other complex social animals will try to approximate the rhythmic human voice sounds to see if we will meet their needs too. The video of Walter the French bulldog who tries to argue with his mom about going to the park sounds a lot like the whale sounds.
@rurazar1686
@rurazar1686 4 года назад
There have been studies before that prove that spouses who have lived with one another for decades, tend to mimic their partner's facial expressions and gestures. So much so, that as the couple ages they tend to share similar facial features, expressions, and personalities, as they've been accustomed to interacting with one another for years and years. So my point being, if this phenomenon can be recorded in human behavior, then it would not seem farfetched to assume that our pets and other animals practice replicating human speech, sounds, or even behavior as well. Since they've been conditioned to act in that manner for a promise of a reward (or something similar) in turn for replicating that behavior. It's funny how evolution works.

The first sound at 0:49 is definitely active sonar if that recording is the sound being talked about. First you can hear the FM slide followed by a CW pulse. The recording is of two FMCW pulses but it sounds like each one is at different frequencies. You can hear this through the hulls of ships and it is extremely loud underwater which matches the reports so it makes sense the sea life would try to get away from it. If it is military or civilian is another matter but it is definitely man made.

For the first sound, you can find lots of videos on RU-vid of divers hearing this sound all over the place. From comments ive seen it seems to be US Navy Surface Active Sonar. It forces sealife out of the area due to how loud it is. There have been protests about its use due to how damaging it can be. Its so loud it could kill a human if there were too close when its active.

For the first one, it is absolutely sonar. But only if the audio in this video is what was heard. You can literally search "underwater sonar" and hear the exact same thing. If what dark5 played in this video is what was recorded; then it is without a doubt sonar. It was most definitely in the best interest of what ever country made this sound to not be found out. It could've been American, Canadian, or Russian submarines but equally possible is the drilling operation. The sound played in the video is exactly the sound of underwater sonar. The only real mystery here is who and why; not what it is. I really think that it was American or Canadian submarine testing their systems in that specific type of environment or an oil company mapping the ground below or also testing their own equipment. Sonar can kill if you are within a few hundred feet and is known to drive off marine life miles from the epicenter. This is sonar through and through. Testing or mapping are the only real explanations.

@Whiskey11Gaming
@Whiskey11Gaming 4 года назад
@@Lobsterwithinternet Or even more interesting is the active sonar pings were a stranded submarine which bottomed out in some sort of significant event. Pings were sent out deliberately to get attention and rescue. Some are saying it's an Arleigh Burke, but the reports say the sonar ping came from the sea floor, which would mean an Arleigh Burke (a destroyer) would have to have been sunk and a sonar man was able to have power and ability to send out an active pulse... highly unlikely. More likely a submarine.
