It interesting to see how different fish react to you, no doubt the roach did a runner whilst the perch appear to be trying to work out whether it is worth taking a bite out of you!
Excellent video A Shot of Wildlife. The best thing about your material for me, is, it is your well researched and interesting to listen to. You are a born educator. You talk from your own wildlife experience too. This all means that I always learn something more about a bird or animal etc, each time I drop by your channel. On top of this you have a very professional approach. -And you are not afraid to 'suffer' for your passion to get that extra 'dimension'! ( getting in the water with no wetsuit! ) Well done! Hi Tom. Thank you for taking the time to leave such a kind and complimentary comment, I really appreciate it. I am glad that you learn something new each time, I am learning as I go but I was saying to someone recently that the more things I learn about our wildlife, the more things I realise that I dont know yet. In honesty, I really enjoy making the videos. I have always loved wildlife but making these videos forces me to get out into nature and its my favourite thing to do. The "born educator" comment is great, through my work I have recently hosted several workshops at local schools about nocturnal wildlife and I have enjoyed it so much that I am considering doing a teaching qualification and trying to teach about UK wildlife full time. I wont lie, I make the videos for two main reasons, firstly to share my love, passion and knowledge for wildlife and secondly in the hope that at some point I can monetise the videos and thus work less. With the spare time I would make more videos and visit more schools etc where I would have full flexibility what I teach about. Currently I have to make the workshops related to local projects but if I was doing it in my free time I would be able to teach about whatever aspect of wildlife I wanted to. Hey don't apologise. It's great to be passionate about wildlife and if you don't have targets to aim for you will hit nothing! I was a teacher in a Belfast Secondary school for nearly 30 years. If I was to do it again I'd plump for Primary school teaching. Why? Well I believe the, 'sparkle', or sense of wonder/curiosity is still 'alive', in the eyes of most primary school youngsters, whilst in Secondary school, it is often gone/dulled, ( for whatever reason. ) Your promotion chances in PS are also much greater. ( The higher up in a school you are the more chance you have to influence more children for the better. ) Male teachers in PSs are like hen's teeth. They are therefore valued more! Anyway I follow your videos. You are very very good. You are better than most of the guys and gals I watch on nature programmes on tv, -and I'm not just saying that. You explain things simply but you are not patronizing. + You have good sense of humour. To monetise and make money you need big view numbers. The numbers watching your channel are definitely not what you deserve. You need to get your good work out there! Have you a Youube business card that you can give to people you meet/talk to/give out at workshops? I talk to people about my channel all the time everywhere and anywhere! Anyone who comes to our door eg poatman workmen etc gets a card. If I've told you this before I apologise but I made a RU-vid video a wee while ago in March 2019 on getting more views. 'Increase RU-vid Views Belfast Man's Guide' ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H1R7MNeCxv8.html I know I'm an old eejit aged 66 but in 5 years I've 2,550,000 views and lift around £120 a month so I must be doing something right! lol Why not diversify a wee bit? Why not do wildlife book reviews? Start with books in your bookshelf. Why not do videos about basic equipment you use to watch and film in and out of water. Unboxing videos of new cameras/equipment etc get big view numbers. Why not do interviews with local nature experts? How to get good footage of birds and animals etc Watch the news/local news! Whenever possible, make topical videos relating to what is happening to wildlife in the news e g there was a recent explosion of painted lady butterflies. I had already made a video about this, -painted lady butterflies coming in big numbers to our buddleia! ( People watched it because they saw painted ladies mentioned on the news. ) Hey I'm just blethering but you are good and you deseve recognition! Here endeth my lesson for the day. Thank you. As I was filming it I could see them infront of the camera but there have been times in the past where I have thought they were infront of the lens but they were only half in... The other video I have done in the Yare for example. I thought the big chub that were spawning were center of the lens and that I was getting great footage but unfortunately I ended up with half of the fish missing. Anyway, I am glad you enjoyyed the video and cheers for taking the time to leave a comment.
I recently had a fight with a grey heron as it had a fishing lure stuck in its mouth, it repeatedly tried to poke my eyes out whilst screaming super loud.
Well done. I’ve had similar with Terns when wobbling Sprats in the summer. Soon as the bait hits the water…pretty odd playing a bird 90 ft above your head. No harm done to any bird.
Yep, I have had the same but with a black headed gull when I was a lot younger. It's definitely different to playing a fish in the water. I'm glad you and the bird were okay.

Great footage of the heron! Most of the time as soon as I come into sight of a heron or egret, they fly away. Were you able to see what you were filming underwater in real time?
Thanks! I could see that there were fish infront of the camera but was just hoping they would be in the picture. I have made mistakes in the past where refraction has caused me to either miss the fish completely or even worse, only film the top or bottom half of them. I want to get a camera similar to what I have now that has a screen, it would definitely improve the amount of good underwater footage I get. Hope all is well.
@@AShotOfWildlife Things are well thanks. Been going to Cow Tower and nearby several times, no otters yet but saw a kingfisher flying away. I am aware with some action cameras, they have wifi options where you can see them on a phone, but for what I can tell and have seen, the footage on the phone lags. In July I tried filming fish jump out of water at Holkham lake and the best strategy would be to film one spot with the tripod rather than try and predict where the fish will pop up. On a side note, do you get lampreys in Norfolk?
WatchRDeer we do get lampreys here I believe but I couldnt say where they are without looking it up. I was at cow tower today but still no otters :/ What have you been doing with your channel recently? 79 new subs in one day?!?
@@AShotOfWildlife Recently posted two videos of stags from 2016. One of my older videos has started getting more hits. I'm convinced there is a point or some threshold where once a video has XYZ amount of views then RU-vid shows more 'impressions' for a while. The articles of otters I have seen seem to be mainly late Winter/Spring time. I'm going to Cow Tower when I go the city and counting on persistency. I invited some friends on Facebook to your page earlier today!
Great film! A lot of wildlife in and around River Yare. Impressing with that Grey Heron in the beginnig of the film. What was it behind the Heron at 0.50? A Rabbit? A Hare? A lot of European Perch (Abborre in Swedish) in the river and it's also very common in Sweden. I haven't had much wildlife in my last films but if you have a look at Triopetra Crete 2019 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-175CU-kU9DI.html you will see me go snorkeling in the Mediterranean and spot some fish in the very clear water. @@dominicgwilliam-bell2770 It was a rabbit. Although it wouldnt have been the first time that Ive caught the back end of a muntjac as it disappeared through the vegetation.
@@AShotOfWildlife Thanks! My first guess was right (😉). Thank you for watching the Triopetra video from Crete! Yes that water was amazing. I can really recommend Crete as a destination to visit. We always stay in Rethymnon nowadays. A nice city that isn't too touristic since it's a good mix of local Greek people and tourists and it's in the middle of the island so it's easy to reach other places of interest. One hour drive over the mountains and you are on the south coast. Cheers and have a nice Sunday!
