Was it just me, or did it seem like the combination of the light and the red filter makes the picture a tad warm/red? thanks for this test. I bought two of these lights for my gopro rig and been wondering what it will be like for our trip coming up to Cozumel.
Thanks mate. Sorry for some reason youtube didn't show me your comment until now. It was more of an example of what you can get. Its tough with such small lights. I didnt do any in post color correction to show what you can get with combination of both,
You get what you pay for but I'm amazed what you can do with them. You would have paid $1000 twenty years ago for a light this bright, There is a massive difference between them as they all look roughly the same but they are not. Some are good and some are total waste of time. Given the right conditions and knowing how to do uw videography you can get the shots I got in that video but it won't be as simple as strapping a cheap light to a gopro and suddenly you can take great footage. If you are snorkelling in clear water in middle of the day for example it wont do anything. A red filter would be the best option instead. They are a simple starting point and don't even compare to say buying a tray with dual lights. Then again at the price of these things does it really matter? I mean a spare gopro battery costs that much.
Hi, No problems. This one was made by a Chinese company called SHOOT. The handle is separate and I cant remember where I got that. You can attach any that has a gopro mount.
Hi! I was looking at buying one of these lights, but the link in the description doesn't sell them anymore? Do you know anywhere else I could get one? Great video by the way!
Thank you so much for your answer. I do not live in Australia (unfortunately 😋) so that explains why the link didn’t show any products. I’ll keep looking for a similar light as it seems very useful!
You need it for macro/close up shots. Its not used all the time just for when you want to get as close. The gopro without a macro lens will not focus on subjects less than a foot away and this external lens will reduce that distance.
Hi, sorry for late reply but been away. I tend to either use 4k25 or 2.7k50. I'm Australian which is why 25 frame rate. Its a catch as I prefer 4k but at 25 frames you cant do any real slow motion and 4k50 on the Hero 6 has no stabilisation. I'm holding out for Hero 8!
Hi, Mainly the ones when using the macro lens as the Polarpro lens no longer allows you to remove the red filter when using the macro so you unfortunately don't get a choice in the matter. Luckily the Gopro will white balance with both a red filter and a light most of the time.
Sean Elliott thanks for the reply. I was a bit disappointed that the polar pro combo filter forces you to keep the red filter on at all times but I did some test photos and I was amazed how good the hero 6 white balance was. The photos looked normal shot through the red filter.
Hi. Yes it is amazing how well the Gopro white balances. I still hate the fact you cant use macro without the filter though. It still doesnt always white balance especially I find at night or if in water that isn't clear but most of the time it does ok. Also it reduces the light by a stop or more. Not sure why they made the change. The old version for the Hero 4 let you flip the red up and it was great.
