Hello, in this video I will introduce 19 monuments from Turkey that have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List. These monuments constitute an important part of human history with their cultural and natural values. Please subscribe and like to watch my video. Let's start now.
First, we will see the Divriği Great Mosque and Darüşşifa, which was listed in 1985. This is a Seljuk structure built in Sivas in the 13th century. This complex, which consists of a mosque and a hospital, draws attention with its stonework and geometric decorations. The Great Mosque and Darüşşifa of Divriği is described by UNESCO as "a building with a unique place in the artistic history of Anatolia"¹.
Secondly, we will visit the Historic Sites of Istanbul. Istanbul is a strategically located city that serves as a bridge between two continents. As such, it was the capital of the Roman, Byzantine, Latin and Ottoman empires. The Historic Sites of Istanbul include the Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque, Blue Mosque, Suleymaniye Mosque, Basilica Cistern, etc., which bear the traces of these four civilizations².
Thirdly, we will go to Goreme National Park and Cappadocia. Cappadocia is a natural wonder located in Nevşehir. The fairy chimneys formed here as a result of volcanic activity have been used by people as settlements and places of worship for thousands of years. Goreme National Park is the most important region of Cappadocia. Here you can see churches³, monasteries³, houses and underground cities carved into the rocks. Göreme National Park and Cappadocia is one of UNESCO's mixed heritage sites³, with both cultural and natural values.
Fourth, we will get to know Hattusa: the Hittite Capital. Hattusa is an ancient city located in Çorum. It was the capital of the Hittite Empire that ruled Anatolia between the 17th and 13th centuries BC. Castles, temples, palaces and gates, which are examples of Hittite architecture, can be seen in Hattusa. There are also reliefs of Hittite gods in the Yazılıkaya Open Air Temple here⁴. Hattusa: The Hittite Capital has been recognized by UNESCO as "one of the most important monuments of the Hittite civilization"⁴.
Fifth, we will see Mount Nemrut. Mount Nemrut is a 2150 meter high mountain located in Adıyaman. In the 1st century BC, Antiochos, the ruler of the Commagene Kingdom, had a mausoleum built for himself. At the summit of the mountain is the statue of Antiochos and huge statues of Greek and Persian gods⁵. Mount Nemrut has been recognized by UNESCO as "one of the world's most valuable cultural assets"⁵.
Sixth, we will visit Hieropolis-Pamukkale. Pamukkale is a natural wonder located in Denizli. Here, travertines formed by thermal waters give the appearance of white cotton. Next to Pamukkale is the ancient city of Hieropolis. In Hieropolis, structures such as theater, baths, temple, necropolis from the Roman period can be seen⁶. Hieropolis-Pamukkale is one of UNESCO's mixed heritage sites with both cultural and natural values⁶.
