Unexpected Category 5 Hurricane | What Happened? 

Unfortunately you have to see things before you can force the models to account for those things. We could create models that predict things that have never happened before but that probably does more harm that good. Having models good enough to pick up this anomalous event would probably require incredibly detailed and expensive airflow information for the entire planet surface and air column. Weather models aren't perfect but if you look at weather maps and try to predict what will happen in the future yourself it's incredibly humbling. I consider myself to be very good at it and they're so much better it's embarrassing.

Exactly! A tropical storm turns into a category 5 hurricane in less than 12 hours is absolutely insane. Just like the Hawaii fire recently.
