The guard is a very skilled rider, however the pedestrian tourists are idiots!!!! Especially the person with baby buggy. A clearly skittish horse and the person with a buggy still stays there for a look, unbelievable and putting the toddler at great risk! Hats of and respect to the guard
Mad respect for these beautifully trained soldiers. It is an absolute wonder that news of tourists being bitten or kicked by those magnificent horses doesn't reach us daily.
I'm always so impressed when an equestrian allows his mount to exhibit natural behavior, while still maintaining a significant enough connection with his mount that he can gently temper the animal's stress level to ensure nobody gets seriously hurt. (Even if they deserve to.)
He allows it because he cannot stop it. He is sitting on an animal that weighs well over half a tonne, well trained though it is, it has a mind of its own and if you try to fight it there will only be one winner.
The skill of this guard is to be commended. I can just about reverse a car, never mind a horse. The tourists see more of my country than most Brits'. Sad but true, so please be respectful of the magnificent horses and our wonderful Kings Guards ❤
Just before this video I watched another episode where the guard had to push the panic button. I saw some similar behaviors and the two horses one was first the one kept the first one with the panic button. He kept chewing about on his bed and his tongue was asked you and then just waving his head up and down to both sides of the chest areas. Same areas people touch. I'm noticing this horse is doing something similar with the mouth first there are lot of bugs going around and I'm wondering if some of those bugs might have a chemical that they emit. The horses can't tell you that their tongue is burning. Anyone inspecting them wouldn't see it. I'm watching little bugs flying around. The horses tongue is kind of going from side to side, both horses were waving their head this one is stopping its foot it's trying to express something it can't do anything about. Something might have a burning sensation. A second theory is worse. I've often thought of those people that come up and then put their hand to the horse's nose and mouth area who knows what they could put on their hands as a sadistic trick like bengay or some other chemical that can begin to burn overtime. Ben gay gets hotter and hotter over time. I don't think any of those people should ever be patting the horses and touching them who knows what chemical they could have on their hands..✋
I saw a vid last week where a woman backed up to the horse for a selfie. The horse reached out and grabbed her ponytail and gave it a good yank. It was pretty funny to see her very shocked expression.
@@jeanniewarken5822 I think this has been answered. If I remember correctly, his name is Sam Watkins and he is a Rastafarian; there are several serving in the British forces. Look him up on the internet, he's an impressive guy!
Sorry, I got the name of the Guard in camo with the beard and long hair wrong. He is Sam Wallace and he's an excellent soldier. He is Rastafarian and has permission to wear long hair and beard.
The rider - guard did a great job steering the horse back into the stall. It mustn't be easy holding the reins with one hand and the sword with the other.
When in London, several years ago, we found the police to be so nice and friendly. We were at Buckingham Palace for the changing of the guards. You’d think the police would be so sick of tourists, being that’s a popular event that many like to see. But no, they were so kind. Love London.
To a horse handler, it is obvious that either there is a horsefly biting his underbelly (which would mean they missed a spot with the insect repellant) or his tack is pinching. Of course he could be just having a bad day… just saying most trained horses won’t act up unless there is a reason.
exactly ... the way he was trying to rub his chest or his leg was obviously something or even sweat irritating him well done on the handler trying to reassure him, it was kind to see..
I taught beginners' riding years ago. Horses are not machines- they've good & bad days just as we do. They have social habits, have likes, dislikes, anxieties, become ill or sore just as we do. Some figured this out sooner than others..😅
If he is getting bitten they shake and move their head or attempt to move their heads around to where it is. He is just having a bad day he could be a new horse as well
Large, dangerous and often uncontrollable animals have no business being allowed on the public walkways with children, women, the elderly, etc. by Bus Stops in London! What is wrong with the people in charge???😮
I so admire those who appreciate, handle, understand, study the behavior and science of these magnificent horses! What a special gift, and talent to understand and have a special bind with them. Talk about loving a job and being paid for what you love to do!👏👏👏
I own multipule horses myself and it was so visible this horse wasnt enjoying himself one bit, very sad he was forced to keep it together untill he wasnt able anymore and people should back off and leave it alone when its so clear he isnt having it.
These wonderful creatures also have bad days, heat, insects, crowds, lots of voices, traffic and of course they get nervous or something hurts them in the whole story , people they are worst.
These horses should have the same rules as a service dog/assistance dog. They are "working" after all. Standing beside is one thing but patting and stroking I don't agree with.
I wonder, sometimes, when the horses get like this, if they are being pestered by a wasp or hornet….or if the mess on the ground doesn’t get slippery for them and make them feel unsteady with their horseshoes on slippery stones?!? Maybe some rubber mats, at least in the guard house area, might be less slippery for them .
It would be very interesting to hear some top horse trainers weigh in on this. I trained horses and riders for years and can tell you there are all levels of horses and riders. There are some horses that a literal fire breathing dragons and have no place in crowded situations where anything can set them off. Public safety should be number one and if a horse shows any lack of confidence or tolerance they should not be utilized. People will do stupid things and horses need to be under control no excuses!
I work with two stallions and their are so many videos where British soldiers don't know how to control their horses. I feel like if a horse misbehaved they should switch them out, because those horses are representing the royal family.
Many of the tourists obviously never saw a horse in their life, let alone up close. They think it is a toy. And at times the guards “feels” hands on his or her legs. Yikes. One doesn’t touch anybody without permission. That goes for animals also.people ha e no clue how to behave. It has to change! The school board at my village has organised contact with a farm close by. The kids stay over for three nights, learn to make cheese and bake bread. There are pigs and cows and some ponies. Respect about the dos and don’ts around animals are part of the curriculum.
Those of the tourists staring take a picture go home and stare at it. Good job Guard. Tourists are dumb. Not getting away from the horse. One girl even tried to get in the way. When the police moved her, she laughed.
Horses just like humans have off days. Unlike humans though they can't really tell you what's wrong. The crap these guards and horses have to put up with is unreal. Poor horse was probably fed up being manhandled by all the tourists. The guard handled things really well.
People need to learn when a horse acts up like that, that they need to keep a safe distance and not do anything to startle the horse they also need to be considered of the person on the horse too so the person on the horse doesn't get hurt let alone other people too.
The level of ignorance these people show astounds me, especially the ones who try to act like they know something about horses when it is obvious they do not.
The pawing and slamming the hoof was clearly a back off move and yet none of the spectators could seem to take a hint, so of course the horse became frustrated, restive and wanted to take itself out of the stressful situation.
You can clearly see that this animal is in distress. I hate how they abuse these horses just to appease some ignorant tourists with this ceremonial garbage. They should be ashamed of themselves for using these horses in this way. They're being used like circus animals and it's appalling.
He has being showing signs of anxiety the whole video he looks like he's been biting his bitt the whole time wanting go forward and he's being stomping his foot like back away and he's been doing all this every 10 seconds and I've been watching this for 3:59 seconds and now his ears are back in away he's about run straight through those folks and everyone is laughing at him. All signs of a horse feeling pinned in where he doesn't want to be. The horse is probably expecting to be treated just like a soldier but he's being treated like a theme park amusement.
Correct Headline should read- “Everything was fine until brainless tourists were allowed to enter the guard’s and horse’s personal space. “ Tourists really should be checked to see if there is any brain activity before being allowed near the horses. Perhaps a free bus and entry ticket to a nearby petting Zoo would ensure “all is quiet on the Whitehall front” But Britain would lose money😱 Not necessarily. Just put HORSE GUARDS on the ‘destination place’ dress the driver and the tour guide in red jackets with a bit of gold braid, (doubt they’d know the difference) and Hey Presto, the idiots have been charmed away (not far enough for my liking) and they have an enjoyable time being photographed petting various animals. The thoughtful, considerate, respectful tourists of which there are many would continue to enjoy their visit and if the horse is willing and not agitated, enjoy a closer proximity to it and the Guard.
