In western Kansas you'd never expect to find geologic formations like these! Little Jerusalem and other surrounding attractions such as Monument Rocks and Castle Rock feature prehistoric formations known as Niobrara Chalk formations formed when Kansas was located under a sea.

@@parkspursuit7515 there is a lot of really cool places out here in Western Kansas and Eastern Colorado

In my opinion, when you start seeing badlands and buttes like that, then you’ve truly entered the West, instead of the Midwest. Kansas definitely becomes more Western-like as you approach Colorado.

Enjoy! I don't know what is like on November but in Spring when I was there it was WINDY. If you look carefully most of my talking head parts I've hidden myself down in nooks to block it so I could be heard!

Awesome video man. I’m working in Dodge City right now and thinking about making the drive up there tomorrow!

Thanks! Hope you can make it up that way. There's some other spots in the area like Castle Rock (last time I drive there the dirt road had deteriorated pretty badly but that was a few years ago), Monument rocks, etc.

@@parkspursuit7515 I made it up there and it was amazing. Also went to Monument Rocks, which was even cooler than the badlands, in my opinion, because you can walk right up to them.

This place needs to be a national park
@parkspursuit7515
@parkspursuit7515 Год назад
I think it could be at the very least a national preserve or monument. I kind of feel like they would need to procure several surrounding areas, some of which are currently on privately owned land, such as Monument Rocks. Though the state park itself was formerly privately owned, so acquiring that land doesn't seem outside the realm of possibility.

Such an amazing landscape. I'm from Tennessee so Appalachia is all I've really seen besides urban areas, this place looks like another world to me. Thanks for the awesome views!

Thanks! Honestly this particular park is a bit of an alien landscape for Kansas as well.

Great video showing that kansas has some hidden gems. I am riding my bike across the country and am passing through kansas, how were the roads that i assume to be gravel that lead to little jerusalem , monument rocks, and castle rock? Are they super sandy? Hard packed gravel ? And where are u not allowed to film with a drone in these three places
@parkspursuit7515
@parkspursuit7515 2 года назад
All three have gravel on the way. The road to castle Rock was pretty rough when I drove it. Lots of growth coming up between the tire tracks. Monument and Little Jerusalem are petty well traveled so they're not particularly rough(at least when I was there..) No drone flight is not permitted at Little Jerusalem, which is a state park. To my knowledge, monument and castle are both technically on private property, and the owners hadn't posted "no drone" signs at the time of my visit.

Why was it owned privately for so long? It doesn't look like anything can be grown there for instance, also they all look like they have water lines.

From my research, it was part of ranch land. I did a little bit of research and it seems that the owner actually probably did the right thing as he turned down offers from groups wanting to turn it into a fossil dig site, an of road vehicle Park, etc. He held out for an offer that would protect the natural beauty of the land

I live close by. That place is part of s huge cattle ranch. Just like monument rocks. If your ever drive out there youll cross over several cattle guards going in and out of the place. A lot of times there will be cattle near by but always make sure to watch where you step for obvious reasons plus Prairie rattlesnakes.

@@parkspursuit7515 I wonder if it's currently used for ranching 🤔 likely not I guess unless there's a grass or water source I can't see in the area
