Thanks for clicking on this video! I bought this bass with my own money from Thomann as I am mainly a guitarist but I wanted a bass for practising and recording. This is from the perspective of a casual player or beginner bassist.

I'm making the same move as you though much older. Bass seems like a great platform, on its own, but also to study the fundamentals of music. I don't imply that bass is easier but that guitar spreads the student «thin» between soloing, riffing, strumming, picking, finger picking, lots of strings, complex tuning, etc. It has that «do it all» potential and compare to say a 49 keys / 4 octave keyboards it comes with a LOTS of complications. Obviously the gifted will disagree but I believe the guitar, as popular as it is, is a pretty bad music learning platform. For most use 4 strings is the sweet spot, no matter the range, there are really potent tunings that cover many uses. The almost forgotten plectrum tuning, CGBD, is pretty damned good for chord work for example. I more and more see the guitar as a virtuoso instrument imposed to the masses. Great review, I might pull the trigger on lake placid blue model.

Thanks for watching! And I definitely agree with your take on bass vs guitar!

Dude, I've been playing the guitar for 15 years now, and I used to play the bass occasionally. But recently, I've switched to playing the bass full-time, and I'm really into it. Maybe I've just matured, but I'm loving it now. It's the instrument for playing with people instead of ego pump with crazy 80s' style soloing...

@@SilentKeeperI I order the bass (the lake placid blue), I love it too. Really fast I understood that it was to become my main instrument. I can touch many styles, contrary to my approach of the guitar I set reasonable goals, work on simple things and overall I'm having some much more fun and a lot less frustration. I still play alone, but the experience is completely different than guitar, I feel I'm with the band playing and listening to what «others» (/recording) do. The guitar condemned me to try to play over the band. The guitar was not for me, too hard for me, too many roles, it sucked me into a bubble. I'm having humble fun in a way.
