Money can be saved if you're more willing to live like a local instead of like you did in the states. People have the misconception that they can live a high end lifestyle for "cheap " in Mexico and that's not the case. If you want to live like you did in U.S. , you're going to pay more

I appreciate this interview and the energy Malika displays with respect to knowing what she wants to achieve in a travel sense and her mindset of organizational aspects with her known financials to enable her to live the way she wants to on her terms. Very helpful in getting my mindset prepared for a out of the US move. I am often a solo traveler myself and I think it’s more normal than people actually realize though it’s popular to do group or couples trips for memories but when you don’t have those dynamics in your individual life you really have to not let solo activities including travel prevent you from venturing out. I couldn’t agree more on the if you waiting for x y z and all in between to align before making these travel plans you may never leave your comfort zone

Nice interview! However, I disagree with some things I heard about cozumel. I had been in Cozumel and it is an island, so everything is imported from the main land, making it more expensive, it is an island focus on tourism so prices are "tourist prices", it is fairly safe as it is not connected to the mainland and for a criminal to escape from it would have to be by boat. Your client says it is 3 hours because she is talking about the distance from Merida to the pier where you get the boats to the island. Just to get a round trip from the main island to cozumel is 30 dls per person every time and boats stop going around 8 pm. After that in case of an emergency you are stuck in the island. Also there are not a big hospital in the island so if you have the need to go to a big hospital after 8 pm, you are out of luck.
@MoveAbroadandThrive
@MoveAbroadandThrive 6 месяцев назад
Wow that is expensive
@angelg6068
@angelg6068 6 месяцев назад
Yes, Cartess. A family of 5 people would be 150 dls for a round trip for all of you every time you guys decide to go to the main land, which you would need to do more often than you would think.

Us Americans are very behind when it comes to toilet habits. I've had a bidet (which is common in other countries) for over four years and haven't purchased toilet paper every since. It's more hygienic and eliminates the tissue in the trash issue completely.

Hi, Cartess and Malikah, thanks for sharing. I have a little situation I feel your passion, I feel passionately about the housing and lifestyle that I have created due to free nice housing and a reliable $ide income. There doesn't seem to be a way to keep this and get Mexican residency. The $ide would qualify me for residency. Without this I would basically have $1,370 social security. I am saving every month, options are good.

Can u shop online at Walmart and have it delivered to your home in Merida Mexico ?
@sophiemarcaurele
@sophiemarcaurele 4 месяца назад
Yes, of course - you can google the webpage of the different Walmart locations in Mérida, and see that they offer delivery on the main page... just like the other stores like Chedraui, Soriana, etc. there's other apps you can order from (farmacias, restaurants, various stores, etc) like Rappi and Uber. If it's for sale, someone is willing to bring it to you, basically. 🫡🙌🏼 plus, there's the Mexican Amazon and MercadoLibre!

Black people from America and elsewhere need to understand you are not going to escape the ADOS experience by coming somewhere you think is cheaper. if you go to the less expensive areas, you can save money, but you have to decide what's really important and make an effort - also- learn to speak and read Spanish, really save money, and live simply. Stop trying to live luxury you couldn't or can no longer afford in the US.

Merida is not perfect and Guadalajara is pretty neat, but I doubt that Guadalajara is safer than Merida. Also Guadalajara is the only place- outside of Tijuana- that I've witnessed open sex trafficking with the pimps right there, and it was in broad daylight! This was during the pandemic. I had gone to Mercado Libertad- San Juan de Dios, a big market. It was closed. I wandered around near the market- I think I was looking for a currency exchange place. While I'm walking I see a young lady standing, posing. I think I thought she was waiting for a bus or something. 🤣 I walk a few more feet and realize real quick that there are several more girls like this a few feet apart from each other. This went on for about a block around. Basically on one street parallel to the main street and two side streets. At a point I see some young guys on one of the side streets and it is obvious that they are monitoring the girls. I get nervous and realize that there is no chance of filming this openly. I pretend to be on my phone and find my way out of there! Oh I remember, I've seen something a little similar in Cancun.

Do you know about the cenotes in the Yucatan? There are underground fresh water rivers thoughout the Yucatan area. BTW- It's May 8th and today in Merida it's 107 with a "feels like" temperature of 116 with the humidty and nighttime temps of around 80! Summer doesn't officially begin for another month and a half! Where I live in Ensenada it's 67 degrees with nightime temps at a comfortable 57....Despite the recent cartel killings of three surfers for their truck in a very remote beach area, it's very safe in the city. I regularly walk in the evenings to a popular taco place that stays open until past midnight. This last Saturday night I was walking back home at around 10 pm after some late night tacos when a car pulled up alongside me and slowed down and a bunch of young ladies shouted out "Hola guapo!!" and sped off laughing...Buena suerte!
