Haven't been feeling particularly inspired lately, and have actively avoided forcing myself to make music. I have, however, experimented a bit here and there, particularly with the Octatrack. In the meantime I've just relaxed and spent time with other hobbies. Here's a few patterns I've made in the past few weeks that I didn't manage to turn into full tracks :)

Always good to hear from you! All my tracks are unfinished because I'm always tinkering with them. I think it's great to have some musical ideas "flash-frozen" for a musical seed when you need it. My condolences on the lack of inspiration, I know it all too well. It just means there are other things that are more important at the moment, it won't last forever!

Yo. These are perhaps slightly underdeveloped in terms of arrangement. But they are some of my favourite tracks from you in terms of vibe. A lot of hip hop wouldn’t really have big symphonic arrangements anyway. This is a very major beat tape. You could send this to rappers and then finish the arrangements to fit the vocals. Would be much easier with the clear purpose of serving the vocalist.

I think I'd be interested in doing more of this if I didn't have the mental block of *having* to arrange tracks before releasing them! Gonna work on that, hehe.

For the first beat: When I mix tracks, I use knobs for attack, decay… release and sustain to remain the number one MC, insane in the membrane As I explain my thoughts in the words that I speak While others just try to steal my technique You can’t compete With my style, no, so stop sweatin, When I turn my mic on, it turns into a lethal weapon Split ya into many different sections Then rearrange your soul… with scenes from the Octatrack And put it back together with the sequencer of the Digitakt Man this rhyme is getting whack Gotta go play in my room alone With my Model Cycles, man I wish it was a Digitone… and I’m out 😂

@@IvarTryti haha… you’re welcome. All of these beats sound so great. They hold their own but I can also imaging a really good rapper on them. (Not me😆) It’s inspiring. I want to practice making hip hop and boom bap on Drambo. Closest thing to higher-end Elektron devices that I have. 👍🏾

Those drums and that synth line don't need much more than what's already here, I love it haha. MAYBE a voice sample here and there for transitions, but I don't recall you using those too much ;)

Those are some punchy drums! How do you achieve such thickness? btw: 2:23 beat is very nice.

Thank you very much! It's hard to explain in a short comment, but I basically use a lot of overdrive on the drums themselves. Then I make the drums way louder than everything else so that they always engage the master compressor first. The effect of this is a bit similar to sidechain compression where everything ducks behind the drums, but there's not actual sidechain compression going on. There's also a compressor plugin called MJUC that, when put on the master track, does something magical to kicks. I also like boost 65Hz and 12kHz with a bell shaped EQ by around 1-3 dB on the master track. All of this can can change from track to track, but these are my go-to settings and often don't feel the need to change them :) Oh, and these drums are sampled straight from the Syntakt into the Digitakt, from back when I still had my Syntakt!
