Jack Nicholson presenting producer Clint Eastwood with the Oscar® for Best Picture for "Unforgiven" at the 65th Academy Awards® in 1993. Introduced by Billy Crystal.
Actually, his directing is better than his acting. Although he's a very good actor. And, I don't know what being a damn fine American has to do with anything.
@@kbanghart does it matter that is was a conservative? I don't think so. I mean sure he didn't like Barack Obama, but he might have had his reasons for it.
@@kbanghart You're projecting! Does it occur to you the fact that he is conservative, loves his country is reflected in who he is and why he is so great. Might want to think on that!
Shashank Pawar i totally agree with u and best western of the 90s and above an Epic movie with huge actors Clint and Gene and more. Clint is still kinda young back then and Gene, Christ they getting older and older. I hope that will be with u for a long long time.. I remember this little story of mine that i was 13 years old back then and i could watch Unforgiven that my mom and step dad wanted for us to see in the movies but like a kid that i was i wanted to see a movie that some kids got shrink and their adventures to survive ants spiders and more, my bad because I losted the oportunity to see Clint and Unfo..! Sorry for my bad English I did my best.!
I agree but "Unforgiven was the worst western he made, boring. The best western of all time is Good Bad and the Ugly! Then Fistfull and a Few Dollars More! Now this is westerns!
@@roguetrooper5288 Bro I agree too, and Josie Wales, Pale Rider, all of em were great, except this one. Unforgiven was boring and I almost fell asleep at the drive in watching it with my late wife I remember back In the early 90s. I sure would love to go back to the early 90s with what I know now, boy all the mistakes I could change. I have a story for Clint but I don't think I'll get to talk to him anytime soon lol
@@siddhantbhat6048 dude literally had an native american take his place so she can talk about social issues affecting her people. Patrick is overblowing this anyway, not everyone os bringimg out political/social speeches anyway, they still sau the standard thank you speech. That or you should stop taking the award shows so seriously.
"Unforgiven" and its director, the legendary Clint Eastwood, was well deserving of the commercial and critical acclaim back in 1992. Such an extraordinary film! 😊😎
@@claudiocorleone7856 , that’s your opinion, and it’s a free country, but I really think 🤔 you committed is to 😈 troll , but I know this movie was selected by for preservation by the library of congress!!and I know all of those people are why more smart then you!!
@@Blackman19498 Malcom X was selected for preservation in the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". Not because it was a great film. It's notable that Malcom X was nominated for a heap of acting awards by various film institutions, but not any best film categories. So there was consistency.
@@Blackman19498 Why so agressive? Malcolm X was not good enough to be nominated for the Oscar for Best Picture. And about Library of Congress, that has nothing to do with the quality of the movie.
not only that but how happy Clint Eastwood made Morgan Freeman and Gene Hackman feel ( Gene won a the best supporting actor award and some years later Clint Eastwood made Morgan win the best supporting award in million dollars baby)
Plen122 What do you mean “melted down?” He’s one of just several that have brains in Hollywood. That’s why most of them act. Eastwood could’ve done anything in life.
Love how Jack had barely finished announcing the winner and Clint was already out of his seat and on his way up the stairs onto the stage. Class. Pure class.
The ending scene in the Saloon, memorable! The malevolent tone of William Munny's voice, the dim lighting, the thunder and lightning of the raging storm - Clint Eastwood, awesome actor and director, uniquely talented! ❤❤ Roland Singh, Canada 🇨🇦
I've always believed that killing another human being was not a natural act. The scene where the young gunslinger faces the other man, looks him right in the eyes and can't pull the trigger right away...sheer brilliance. Thanks, Mr. Eastwood, for the testimony in those few seconds.
That........was David Webb Peoples screenplay, that he originally gave to Clint in the 1970s..........Clint held onto it, because, when DWP gave it to him, he told David that he wasn't old enough to play William Munny yet........
It is one of the two really good Merchant Ivory flicks, the other being *Remains of The Day*, however,* Unforgiven* is the culmination of the Western genre.
@@toniosntcrz - Ageed, "Howard's End" is a better film, but "Unforgiven" is a more emotional and more exciting film, and those tend to appeal to Academy voters. They also vote on who is "due" an Oscar for this or that, rather than on greatest cinematic works.
I know it's an old thread, but hell, propaganda has been present in Jewllywood since the begining, give or take. It's just too subtle for most to notice is all. Started with very trivial anti-Christian stuff like making sex out of the wedding lock seem okay, and ended up with a blatant ideological piece called Parasite winning the big prize.
This is my favorite western of all time and one of my favorite films of all time, right here. An impeccably crafted movie on every level, a true masterpiece and it fully deserved to win Best Picture IMO
Clint Eastwood is a Great actor, director, and producer. Appreciate so many years of Tv shows and movies that he was and is in. He is also a very fine man whom has good common sense and truely cares for America and Freedom and Liberty. Thank you and God Bless you and your family.
@@leetorry please tell me you're being sarcastic. The majority of them just use the speech time to spout their political beliefs. Politics, race, gender. That's all you hear almost.
Unforgiven was the film that made me a Clint Eastwood fan! A great western that was beautifully well-done and very deserving of Best Picture! This and Schindler's List are two of the most rightful Best Picture winners! I would not be a Clint Eastwood fan if not for this film! Unforgiven is the Best Western Ever Made!
Well Deserved Oscar Win!!! Unforgiven is one of my favorite films that won Best Picture! Clint Eastwood's Best Film Ever! I watch this more than any other Eastwood film! Westerns beat the hell out of today's CGI films! The #1 Western EVER!!!!!! Unforgiven all the way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The only time u would ever see Eastwood and Nicholson in front a camera at the same time, God I wish I could have seen them in a movie together. "The Man with No Name" versus "The Method Professional Psychopath"
The best western of all time and in my opinion the second best movie of all time, second only to The Godfather. From the opening scene about his wife's mother, you know you're about to see something very special. There is nothing that could have been done to make this movie better. The script, the pace, the cinematography, the music, and of course the acting, all come together to make it an absolute Masterpiece.
Yep,yep.yep . I co-sign just about all of your well stated points, although personally, I thought Unforgiven's big 4 (Eastwood, Hackman, Harris, and Freeman) might get the nod over Brando, Pacino, Caan, etc for their performances and the supporting actors were all great, but I have no qualms with The Godfather being ranked slightly above. Best western of all time and in my Top Ten period..... and you are right - nothing else could have definitively made this movie better
I didn't recognize it at the time, great it was. Billy Crystal, "Jack". Nicholson, "Cut to the chase". Unforgiven wins best picture. One of the greatest westerns of all times with one of the greatest western stars of all times.
Loved the film, love Clint. I remember the review of the film in the newspaper at the time. One of the lines I remember to this day. "after 30 years in the saddle Clint Eastwood has never rode so tall".
I love all of Clint Eastwood's movies. 💙 Congratulations for your reward. Nobody deserves it more than you do Sir. Keep up the great work. Much love 💘and respect!!!
This is the BEST Example of a Best Picture Win! The Director wins this award! He directed it and produced it! That's how you win Best Picture! Clint Eastwood certainly did that with Unforgiven! The Director not only wins Best Director, but also Best Picture because he's the heart and soul of the movie! The Best Picture Award should always go to the Director because he created the movie and Unforgiven follows this!
Mr. Eastwood will always remind me of my grandpa who passed away last february. With him I learned to love western stuff (movies, comics, etc.) and to admire Clint Eastwood's general acting work. Thank You Grandpa, and thank You, Mr. Eastwood!
Wow. It won against some big make movies of the year. Eastwood is extremely talented. He wrote the script, produced it, acted in it, and wrote the guitar movie score "Claudia's Theme"
I have been watching westerns all day today for some reason. I started by finishing Deadwood.(the criminally canceled and amazing HBO series) Then, I watched Tombstone and Django Unchained. Now, I'm about the finish with Unforgiven. Pretty much an awesome day. lol.
An amazing year for movies - and the next year too - Unforgiven remains my all time favorite Clint movie. Even the love of a beautiful and good woman cannot change what a man is.
