@@thedoomslayer6836 I'd love to claim it as my own, but it's from Halo Legends- Origins part 2. If you've never seen it, both parts are worth a watch as it's a nice overview of the Halo universe, but that part, with this music in the background, always sends a little chill down my spine. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-eNRW-Fgo5G4.html
Humanity was near extinction, nearly every planet they had was glassed it definitely wasnt just about reach. Hoods speech contrasts with similar speeches about 9/11 first responders “never forget those who journeyed into the howling dark and did not return” this song conveys the entire war as a tragety
There I was .. 7 years old.. Opening my Birthday present, and out pops halo 2. I laugh cause my dad had showed me Halo CE when I was a 4 back in "01" And i couldn't wait to play the second game since i already completed legendary on CE. I pop the game in an hour later and im immedietly gifted with this song... I remember sitting there on the menu screen watching the Super carrier hover over New Monbasa.. Nothing but happy , Sad , and Nostalgic memories from this, thank you.
I hate to be that guy, and as touching as it is, I hate how people keep getting this wrong The Day of Jubilation and Solemn Penance, which made up the command ships of Regrets fleet, were both CAS Class Assault Carriers. No CSO class Supercarriers were ever present at earth, at least under Elite command, there might well have been several engaged in Truth's Brute led invasion though.
@9:51 Lasky: "You say that like soldiers and humanity are two different things. Soldiers aren't machines. Chief: *looks slightly towards Lasky in realization as music swells* Lasky: "We're just people..." Me: *choking back man tears*
People say 343 broke Halo by making it about MC as a character, but I think they could've embraced it. Halo universe it definitely fit for any narrative you choose. Such a shame they just did a bad job of it for H4 and an awful one for H5. As much as H4 already shows signs of Halo's downfall, it was a solid experience when it comes to the emotional beats done right, and it could've rivaled Bungie's trilogy if it had a good campaign.
I get that MC is supposed to represent the player and all, but coming around Halo 3, he started to feel more like an empty, lifeless suit just killing things with no other motivation but to save the world over and over again. I think that Halo 4, although not a perfect game, finally gave MC the humanity he deserved. When he lost Cortana, the AI sidekick he depended on throughout most of his life, he suddenly wasn't the war machine that just followed waypoints and briefings. At that moment, he felt alone, empty, and without purpose. And he still grieves the loss of his only best friend who understood him, AI or not.
To be honest, Never Forget is one of those tracks that always makes me stop whatever I’m playing, and go brush off the Xbox Classic for some Halo 2. _Its Magical_
i started with Halo 2 on the original Xbox. I believe. Best experience ever. Wish I still had it. Might buy the master chief collection but i am not sure if it supports 4-player split screen like the original halos
@@NBVCXZ-v9q Same here brother, Started on Halo 2 as a whole. It was my first video game I played ever when I was a little dumb kid. Played it to death with my brother growing up
Here’s a toast to those we’ve lost touch with or simply lost over the years. Whatever the circumstance, the times we shared and the trenches we inhabited together will always be sacred. Especially old halo friends, too much nostalgia.
Maybe, Spartan. Maybe one day, 343 will pull their heads out of their asses. Maybe Bungie will return to exceed expectations, and give us a far better goodbye. Maybe, Halo will be Legendary again. But, till that day, we wait. Waiting until we're needed.
As much as I love Halo 3's Never Forget for being the iconic version, Halo 4's midnight remix is sooo good and feels like a proper tribute to the original masterpiece Marty and Salvatori made.
Feels like the song that plays when master chief dies “Master chief, mind telling me what you’re going on that ship” “Sir, finishing this fight” *master chief crashes a super carrier into some kind of covenant base
say what you want about halo 4, i liked its version of never forget a lot. i think it’s a faithful tribute to the og halo trilogy’s legacy. i also think it represents the end of an era. the 360 era. i think it’s a perfect song to represent the end of the Golden era of xbox and halo.
Know what this songs *says* to me? That Master Chief, though he is an outstanding team player, is alone. He charges in alone. He fights alone. And typically leaves alone. Usually with an AI to assist him, lifetimes away from being the little kid, John the King of the Hill, his existence is dedicated to fighting and protecting others. Even his entry into service, combat, and genetic mutation was alone. It wasn’t a choice for him. He just was selected and survived it. Furthermore his size, his appearance, his ever-covered identity and face show yet don’t show… he is alone. Something about seeing him speaks solitude. How he sits in a brooding manner, hands resting on knees, head cocked somewhat toward the floor, at the back of all those dropships. His invisible eyes likely looking to the horizon. To what the next need is, mission is, battle is. Without peer, others have tried but they’re all gone and he remains, again, yes, alone. Now his intrepid action and determination are his legacy. Yet, it’s not an ended legacy it simply doesn’t end. The man is frozen and thawed when he’s needed again. In other words, and I believe is the namesake of this song, he’s alone yet Unforgotten. Everyone knows about him but no one is going with him- into the worst frays of conflict out there. In fact, he’s going into it for the sake of everyone else. What a beautiful irony. Spartan 117, you are always in the hearts of those you serve-everyone. Master Chief-John...you are Unforgotten.
We fight cause we want to, we die because we have to in order to win; In order to win the fight against the Covenant and their onslaught for this horrible war. Master Chief gave us hope, hope that we can win against them; let his fight and legacy carry on to inspire others to fight and not be forgotten.
Wow, your words are so beautifully written 😢. I'm new to Halo through the TV series and I've been watching a massive amount of canon and lore vids. I can absolutely see the charisma and affinity fans hold to a "hero" like MC. Beautiful!
Halo is one thing I will never forget, it’s been such a big part of my childhood and it’s still something I play a lot. I’m so glad that I grew up in such a great era
Yes.. but its just not the same. I dont think it ever will be. And honestly.. thats okay. We are lucky to have lived through this amazing period. Such nostalgia
@@rockymountainastro1239 I was late to the party, my first halo was reach when I was 12 however it was roughly 2015, so halo has been past it’s peak for a while by then. I still loved the memories and halo is still the only FPS franchise I play. I can genuinely see myself play it till I’m 40.
This song playing on the Halo 3 menus in between matchmaking and custom games is something I’ll never forget. It almost makes me sad to listen to it, remembering all the good times long gone now.
@@CommunityFan im a month late.....but im pretty sure it plays when Lasky and Chief are having their moment in the bridge When they talk about being soldiers, and chief speaks as if soldiers and humanity where two separate things. Then Lasky points it out, and Chief has lets himself be human again Its one of the few things that I loved in Halo 4
The music of halo is simply incredible, but made all the better when there are characters, a story, and a setting that we care about and are invested in. Not to mention some of the best damn gameplay in all of the FPS genre. All of these came together to give the best kind of nostalgia whenever you stumble across the music again.
Halo has everything it needs to be a great game, something that can be continued and be so different yet the same. It’s such a great storyline of events, halo is so different from any other game. There’s nothing that you can compare it to
For us the storm has passed. And let us never forget those who journeyed into the howling dark and did not return. For their decision required courage beyond measure.
Lets pass a like and raise one up for all the friends/matches played together circa 2004-2008 era. At some point we played our last match together and didn't realize it as we turned off the console...
Nostalgia is neither good or bad. It’s a sensation of past memories from sound, smell or sight. However it’s always a reminder of what will never be again...
On the last day before the 360 halo services shutdown, I'll start playing every halo game on my old 360 both multiplayer and campaign with this soundtrack.
@arianalijani1008 nostalgia about the 7th gen is so real, its not that we have rose tinted glasses or anything, its that products and consoles had more personality, like windows 7's aero being refreshing and there was more courage for online play and online chatting, every xbox 360 came with a free mic (sure it sounded bad but its still a mic and everyone had it), nowadays online chatting is less popular and everythings more corpo, back then microsoft was still shit but atleast made something out of it, what times have passed.
@@skyraider87 Yeup. Honestly, I'm willing to give 343 the chance on Infinite. They did well on HW2. And the music so far is sounding amazing! So let's see if they can shoot thier way out. Mix things up a little.
@@spazemfathemcazemmeleggymi272 uuuummmmm... Shit. Welp, ima hit it like this: I'm willing to see what 343 does to Infinite. HW2 is probably the game that made me remember Bungi. Why? You ask whilst nutting harder then ever. Because it gave me the same vibe Bungi's games' did. And hat's off to the voice actors. They nailed it. You see, Halo isn't about the looks, movement and multiplayer, it's about the story. Don't believe me? play Halo 1, 2, 3, ODST and Reach. Play the original HW if that don't change ya mind. And HW wasn't made by Bungi, infact it was disapproved. Halo is... different now, yes. But 343i is in their best mind. Let's honour Halo, not talk down about it. Sorry for the long reply. -AQG Arts.
been co-oping mcc with my friend lately and i've come to really appreciate this series. playing it when I can understand the story is on a whole other level from when I was playing it when I was 7 years old. true gold.
Halo 3 never forget is just a pure masterpiece it's hard to describe it. All my childhood memories are in this song that's how powerful it is. Halo 2 is close too
For Halo 2 to have the most intense and heavy metal OST, and having one of the softest OST as well, really makes that game all that more legendary. God bless Bungie for working on such masterpiece, and the man who choose HALO for this legendary franchises name sake!
I can only hope that when I'm an old man I will be able to play Halo still. And if I'm not, then I know the music will still be able to take me on a journey of feels and nostalgia like nothing else in this world can do.
It's actually insane how much time has passed. Halo 2 came out almost 20 years ago now and it's well over 15 years for Halo 3😨. we'll all be old before we know it.
This song will always be remembered, for all the legendary moments we had playing this legendary game, playing as legends of this game franchise. As Master Chief, the Arbiter, and Noble six.
This is such a truly emotional piece. If fills me with nostalgia, sadness, hope, and reverence. In my opinion it transcends Halo and I low key want this played at my funeral 😅
It feels like the one in here is a different version that wasn't used in the game. If you remove the extra guitar, drums and that stuff then I think that you have the track might have been there. New Alexandria or something like that
@@Mono_Person it wasn't used in the game except maybe the credits. the version you're thinking of is from Epilogue, played when Halsey talks at the end of the game.
I mean tbh halo 4 feels a bit smoother to play, has a very comparable soundtrack, and has an amazing story. The game did not miss imo but people like to hate on it
It's insane to me that this song almost didn't even make it into Halo 2, it was just a scrapped piece that Michael Salvatori wrote and hated, and was going to delete until Marty decided he wanted to throw it in the soundtrack last minute
7:44 Catherine Halsey: "It didn't take long for Reach to fall. Our enemy was ruthless, efficient, but they weren't merely fast enough, for you had already passed the torch, and with it we found Halo, unlocked it's secrets, shattered our enemies resolve. Our victory....your victory....was so close I wished you could have lived to see it, but you belong to Reach. Your body and armour all burned and turned to glass, everything. Except your courage, that you gave to us, and with it we can rebuild." ~ Halo Reach
I don't play many first person shooters. Most have them have the same problems: Generic military badass stereotypes, black and white storytelling, and over-used metal filled soundtracks. But Halo is different. Halo has characters you care about, a universe to get invested in, and a sweeping soundtrack that gives you those tingles down your spine and even puts tears in your eyes. All of these elements elevate Halo far beyond your Call of Duties, your Medal of Honors and your Battlefields and make it something truly special.

Yeah I was 9 when halo five came out and the first game I played was Halo 2: Anniversary after my cousin showed it to me. Then 2 years later my dad whips out halo 2 (classic) and in a week I was really into it. But the most wonderful part is when my dad bought The Master Chief Collection and I ended up getting nostalgia from the halo games I never grew up with. Anyway me too man
I only played CE Anniversary at the end of July 2020. Died on the Truth and Reconciliation, alongside Keyes. God, I miss it. If only I had beaten it. I wish I'd played the multi-player and tried to make those memories.
to the five people who disliked this, im sorry you dont understand the very soul of this music. There are some things in life, which cannot be subjected to opinion, which just are. In the same way, this just is a masterpiece, and there is no opinion on earth that would change this fact.
This song has become a memorial theme for the franchise it belongs to. Our feelings of nostalgia help us remember what it once was, and the sad melody reminds us of what it could have been.
I just hope Halo never dies... or at least I don’t hope to live to see it happen I have so many days worth of hours put into this beloved franchise, weeks and probably even months worth of hours... so many times I’ve stayed up past 3am on school nights just to play some matches with some friends who I’ve never talked to for nearly a decade, Halo has a true place in my heart and I think it does for everyone. I don’t think anyone in the future will every experience such an emotion and a bond with a video game...ever.
This feels nostalgic as fuck. The first Halo I played was 3 (don't ask me how or why because I have no clue). I loaded it up and was blessed with this masterpiece. I really liked it, but then I hopped into campaign and I had alot of fun. Blasting covies away with an ar dying many, many times. Thank you Bungie, for the amazing memories. Goodbye, Spartans. This is ExpertTundra818, now ShowedKiller45, signing off.
It was my first gaming experience was combat evolved when I was just 4 years old I remember the ring and the music I played CE so much because it was the only game I had and I am forever grateful to my uncle for introducing me to such a wonderful Trilogy. I wish he could’ve have seen it.
This track is called Unforgotten because Michael Salvatori wrote it early for Halo 2 and initially hated it so it got kinda buried until Marty found it. Loved it, and put it in the Halo 2 CD soundtrack as a bonus. Then it became Never Forget for Halo 3 and nobody since has ever forgotten this song
To do what's right...even if it shreds you apart...that is what this song symbolizes to me. Never forget the people who make sacrifices for you, no matter what!
I did not grow up with halo at all. I had a Wii growing up and my parents wouldn’t let me sniff anything with an M rating until I was much older. But after playing the games, I can see how the ost means so much to people. Never Forget is such an incredible tune up there with the greats.
Never owned halo until this year as I was a playstation player turned pc player, however I used to play the halo campaigns with friends and cousins all the time and this takes me way back thank you
I’ve been playing halo since I was a little kid like most of us have but I always admired seeing this character who came from nothing who had nothing but a rifle and his AI and a scary sense of duty and will. Growing up I didn’t have friends I was an outcast but I played halo all the time online on reach and 3 I met some good people through that. It’s because of seeing not just master chief but all of humanity fighting and putting their hope the men that carried a rifle that made me think that joining the real military will help me fill my sense of duty. I met my two best friend on halo and we ended up meeting for the first real time in bootcamp in the same platoon all trying to become marines. It’s because of halo and the master chief that I have friends and family I’ll never lose. Me and the boys still sit down every now and then and listen to this song because the nostalgia just hits so incredibly hard. The memories the friends the family and community created because of this game astounds me and it’s incredible. I’m so happy to be apart of the halo fan base and community. I finally fit in here with other gamers
I haven't played MCC in a while now but the unforgotten themes just makes me feel something else again and me wanting to play it again just for fun It's weird how you stop playing your favorite game for a while but then out of nowhere, the music just encourages you to try and play again. But that's how halo is people.
I am so moved and touched in my heart, when I hear this music, because it is the one that we had chosen for my team on our website, so we heard it every day, it reminds me of a whole era of play and sharing in community.
i hope that i get to play the halo story mode with my baby boy ! he 1 year and 2 months old but when he is old enough it will be a pleasure to recruit a new spartan in legendary with a veteran guiding him from Halo to halo 3 ! this is my new dream ! I had the honor to play halo when it first came out and grow up with Halo and now i will pass it down to the next generation!
Cheers to Gina! Been playing with her since 2012 and has been one of my best friends ever since. Not sure if you'll ever come across this comment but I hope you're doing great in life now. Edit: A year later and she came back!
The Halo 2 through Reach versions actually push me to the brink of tears. These games were a _massive_ part of my childhood, and genuinely helped me through a few rough patches.
To be fair, considering the fact Reach was Bungie's last game, it does feel like the "We Remember" is a final verssion to a thing that was stuck with us for half of the franchise.
I never knew this soundtrack and walking away was a different version from its last counter parts, A walk in the woods - Walking away and unforgotten - we remember, this just shows how different reaches style of music was different from the rest of the franchise, and boy o’ boy was that style suitable for reach.
