Nothing I love more than an Unhaul! It feels cleansing. You kept saying "this isn't interesting, this is so boring" -- I promise you, I was SAT and locked in the whole time!
I was cracking up. Ali, your videos are NEVER boring. You are so funny!! This was the most entertaining unhaul video I've ever watched. Congrats on unhauling all of these books. I've unhauled around 100 books this year, and it felt great! High 5!!!
@@AliDoisRead I think unhauls are kinda therapeutic for me, it's kinda cleansing and I love to reflect my past choices and trying to not repeat some of my past "mistakes" like buying popular books I know wouldn't be my cup of tea, or book tastes just changing over the years which just happens :3 I'm getting better at letting books go, pretty books make it hard for me but I'm also getting better at mostly buying books I do enjoy 😁💕 I just discovered your videos, bc I was binging book unhauls, and it was really fun so yeah I agree that it wasn't boring in the least ^^
@@kazreadsbooks love this! Yes I’m really hoping I learn from some of these mistakes 😂 number one was buying recs from random TikTok’s without researching further lol 🫣
@@AliDoisRead you gotta be careful out there 👀 also I’ve been binging your channel and find myself gasping all the time and love it 😅 just needed you to know your influence
0:57 “which would be completely psychotic. let’s move on” 😂😂 guuuurrrrllll this is my new life motto… ‘maybe it’s a lil psycho but I’m not gonna ruminate on it’
just stumbled upon your channel for the first time and im so into this. your humor, your taste, your relatability, reading stuff besides just romantasy !! (nothing wrong with that, but i don’t read much of it). very happy to have come across you!
@@AliDoisRead Yesss ❤. You are so funny. I just found your channel recently. I think 🤔. I'm subscribed to many book tubers. Go figure 🙄. But ya... I'm thinking of doing a book related channel myself. Probably not for another year though.
‘im a hoarder but when i purge I purge a little too well’ i have never heard something so true! it takes me so long to build up the courage to unhaul stuff but once I do I’m far too good at it 😭
Honestly I also couldn't keep a book that has an unpleasant smell. I liked the 'book of night', but I can see why people wouldn't finish it. 'Skyward' is on my tbr. Arcs can be given away BUT NOT SOLD. I didn't really enjoy 'seven days in june', also unhauling it :) I read 'the girl who fell beneath the sea' and 'The society of irregular witched', gave both 1 or 2 stars *gasp*. I have such a hard time getting rid of pretty books, but watching unhauls helps me look at the books I own in a more critical way. Ps. subscibed to you, you're so fun to watch, leved this vid
I feel the opposite, I LOVE watching unhaul videos and I almost never watch book hauls! I love hearing peoples cathartic experience of clearing their shelves! Loved your video!!❤
Divine Rivals is one of my favorite books of all time, though I understand it’s not for everyone, it gets more intense as it goes on and you learn more about the magic
this was fun and not boring at all!!!! also I could never get rid of my 4/5 star reads hahaha but I also do love re-reading though so that's just me also girl don't feel bad about your book buying habits, I know there's loads of think pieces on the "over consumption" of books but I honestly don't think it compares to actual over consumption or fast fashion. there's this substack piece I really like titled, "no one buys books" which gives insight into book buying with actual numbers from major pub houses. it a cool piece if you want to check it out :")))
I think I was on that declutter high because I’m having some regrets 😂 Ooh I’ll look into that for sure! It’s weird, I feel so happy for other people getting new books all the time but am so hard on myself for it smh 🤷🏻♀️
Wow 100 👏🏽👏🏽Good job!! I love how you kept saying I’m not gonna keep explaining why I’m unhauling this book and then you kept explaining.😂 I say “to make a long story short “ and then tell the whole story so I felt really represented there😅. Another great time. Hope the move went well and you’re settling in okay.
For the past few days I've been watching unhaul videos like my life depends on it, and yours was EASILY my favourite lol! Your love for your books is so nice to see, but alas the need to unhaul will get to us all at one point or another 😔. Hoping to see more of your videos in the future, you seem like a lovely person :)
With ARCs, I think it’s mostly a moral / ethical dilemma. You received a free book in exchange for a review. Regardless of reviewing the book or not, it’s still kind of crappy to turn around and sell it when you received it for free bc a publisher and / or author wanted you to give your opinion on it. There’s no law though if you want to sell it; it’s more just considered rude. But also, like another comment said, ARCs change a lot, so that could be a slightly different book from the final version, and whoever gets that ARC might not know it’s an ARC and might blast the book negatively across social media and review platforms bc they got the raw version. I would hate that for an author. If you’re giving it away, I would literally write inside the front cover that this is an advanced reader copy and the final book sent to print could potentially be different.
That makes a lot of sense. Yeah I was planning on donating all of these but I will def write in it so it’s very clear this is an unfinished copy! Thanks for the advice!
I love getting rid of my 1-2 ⭐️ reads. I donate them to my library or little free libraries around my town. 3⭐️ books or books I soft DNF I give to my sister so if I ever want to re visit them I can get them again
Purging books is such a good feeling. I sometimes find a book I can't remember reading, buying or why I wanted it in the first place. Now I've started to not keep them if I felt the were just fine. The hardest thing is to get rid of really pretty books, even though you didn't care for it 😅
omg first time watching you and kinda obsessed hehe❤ also i think you can keep 4 or 5 stars you really loved even if you dont think you'll reread it! it can be hard to get rid of things and i find it's so much easier to just not buy books than to try and get rid of ones you already own (even if you didnt love them). so i find it so good to use the library and then i only buy the book i really love and then i also don't have to get rid off 3 stars bc i dont have them aha. its just a system that works really well for me and means you dont feel any guilt over keeping or getting rid of mediocre fine books and i find you consider what you're buying more. :)
When you got to that maybe like for the unread books wow was that relatable. Anyway, if you want to read some sci-fi murder mysteries those exist! The Spare Man by Mary Robinette Kowal is the one I've read and it's definitely an adaptation of an old Hollywood noir film.
I think you're being really hard on yourself here 😟 books and reading brings us joy! And sharing that passion with others also brings deep joy. So "just seeing them on my shelf" or "keeping it just for someone else to notice it on my shelf" isn't silly or stupid at all. Maybe im projecting** but i think we may have had a similar experience in childhood of not having a home that felt like OUR HOME so all of these "homey" things feel superfluous. But i promise you its not. You are allowed to have things and keep things just bc they bring you a bit of joy. [[ if i was totally just projecting please ignore
I totally get that! I feel like my thing though is that I only want my absolute comfort favs surrounding me. But you’re so right joy over everything else 🤭
I’m so happy to hear someone else didn’t like powerless, the ending just fell so flat for me because part of me was hoping she was going to get her powers somehow but she was still just plain and normal. Idk didn’t feel it
Ooh I’ll def get the Libby audio from the library then! Let me know your rating when you finish it 👀 I’ve definitely been intrigued for a while on this one
@@AliDoisRead I just finished, gave it a high 4, I did not predict anything lol and the Libby audio had a little interview with the author at the end, it was so fun! washed all my house walls and vacuumed behind the couch… thank you audio books! 😅
Oh that reminds me: I brought where the crawdads sing like two years ago. Knew nothing about it or the author. Read it pretty quickly, it gave me some icks and then I heard about the author and the things that she had going on... big no for me😅 Needless to say, this was an immediate unhaul for me
@@glitteryvoid Sorry 😐 remind me again what the author did? I mean I have books by an author who did something when she was a teenager that was bad. But I got the books for free and they seem right up my alley. So ya. Anne Perry. Not sure what the issue was with that either. I've forgotten 😮
@YW2324 well basically she used to live in Africa with her husband and they are now wanted in Zambia for questioning that apparently relates to a murder. SPOILER: When you know what the book talks about, that is sort of weirdly specific
@@AliDoisRead Same here to be honest lol 😆. I have an obsession with books 📚. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Except when you spent too much money 💰 that you now have to go on a very long book buying ban, so you don't drain your bank account and go broke. Yes this is my life right now. Hehehe 😂 Sorry not sorry.
I feel like you missed another reason to keep a book and that is to lend out to friends? I love these types of video's. I learned we have very different tastes, but this was still entertaining😌👌
@@AliDoisRead I didn’t think I’d like it because it’s part historical fiction. Mainly fantasy romance though. I originally bought it for my sister and then I ended up reading it before I gifted it to her lol and surprisingly loved it so much that I bought my own copy
the idea that you aren’t allowed to resell arcs is. not true lmao. i genuinely don’t know where people got the idea that you can’t sell them. now, most reselling stores (like second & charles and stuff like that) won’t take them for about the same reason they won’t take hardcovers without the dust jacket; it’s lowkey an “incomplete” product. you CAN sell them directly to someone, and if you have a local bookstore that buys back books they might take it, etc. or you can just donate it.
I mean they do say not for sale on them. their purpose is for promotion and reviews not for retail and profit so I guess it's like you shouldn't sell something that you were sent for free to review/promote ? and i guess the not for sale is more like for bookshops to not sell their free, bookseller copies rather than individual online reviewers. no ones going to stop you if you really want to haha.
@@candyhyojung1860 the “not for sale” is, as you brought up, for booksellers as it isn’t a retail product. commercial resellers (like second and charles or half price books) can’t take them. again, there’s nothing preventing you from directly selling to someone else, unless you actually have a legal agreement with the publisher that you received it from.
I feel like we would be AMAZING neighbors bc we have enough of the same taste that we want to read a lot of the same books but different enough taste that the I could give you the ones i didnt like and you could give me the ones you didnt like and we'd both end up with our favs and less crowded shelves lol
Thank you for sharing this Ali , literally I’ve been worried about unhauling my books bc of people telling me how you can get rid of these blah blah .. but I did it eventually and i felt sooooo good and in an amazing way believe me it’s something good .. anyway i loved the vid and i wish i knew you earlier 🥹🤍
Me, clapping as you unhaul angelika frankenstein ☠️ Wait did I miss why you’re unhauling middle of the night?! Did you hear bad things about it? Have you watched a good girls guide to murder on Netflix yet? I really need to read the book so I can watch the show! Unhauling is hard and you did so good 🥲
LOL 😂 I’ve only heard mid things! I just hauled it and comments on it were the same 😟 I forget if you’ve read it??? If you gave it a 4 or 5 I’m fishing it out of the donation box 😂
@@AliDoisRead no I haven’t read it yet but it’s on my tbr! I haven’t heard much about it so maybe that just means it’s mid?🥲 but I read the only one left earlier this year and had a lot of fun with the creepy gothic vibes. I think I was just shocked by the unhaul of it since it’s so new and it’s a hardcover 😂 but I get it!!
