Slam poet and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Emi Mahmoud asks ‘How Am I To Celebrate?’ As a former refugee from Sudan, Emi knows well what Ramadan feels like when you have lost so much. In this holy month people all around the world are celebrating surrounded by family and friends, but for millions of refugees Ramadan is a memory of a happier life that has been lost: separated from those they love and their communities - far away from their homes and homelands. Ramadan is a time for family, gratitude, reflection and giving.
