After graduating from university, this entrepreneurial young couple kick started their next phase of life by building an incredible eco tiny house together!

Unbelievably, Sam and Simone managed to construct this tiny house as a DIY project for only AU$17,000 which works out to be just over US$12,000. In this video, we discuss how they were able to construct their tiny house for such an affordable price and tips for building tiny houses for less. Especially in a country like Australia, where the material cost of building can be very high!
Read More: www.livingbiginatinyhouse.com...
As students of wildlife and environmental sciences, the couple now have plans to regenerate the property where the tiny house is parked. They are also using the tiny house as a base to launch a new online business. I hope you enjoy this full video tour of this stunning tiny home.

It seems to be mostly an American thing to knock the idea of living near/with parents. As an American, I was trained from early on to "leave the nest" as soon as I turned 18 (or stay and pay bills while living under the equivalent of martial law). I married my husband, went to live in his country for about two years and learned things are WAY different for most other cultures. Personally, I think it's great. I own almost four acres of land and I have every intention of sharing it with my children should they (hopefully) choose to stay close!
@GodParticleZero
@GodParticleZero 4 года назад
I don't have any problem with sharing land from parents. It's just that a lot of people don't have that option. I have like 14 acres that that was my parents' land where I could put something, but they went and built a huge landfill across the road. Just my luck...=(

@@dragons10000 I came from a vid about a guy who's terminally ill and builded his own (totally awesome) tiny house by learning from books and RU-vid. We (two women) build a earthbag house ourselves for 1500 euro with no prior building experience other than we learned ourselves. The biggest problem was men who thought we needed help and try to force that help upon us while we said no. We build on a community garden And looped around the rules. So many people complaining about how they live in their parents and what not. I’m wondering why does that bother you guys so much? Each person has there own story. Bryce has shown videos of people who rent land, have bought there own land or have friends let them park. Whenever there’s a video of someone utilizing there parents property why do people cry in the comments section?
@AJ-ox8xy
@AJ-ox8xy 4 года назад
Some of it comes from jealousy, some comes from people that feel they're lying about "doing everything themselves" or are "selfmade debt free", and some people just find small things to complain about because they're bored. Honestly I fit into the later category more often then I care to admit; but in this case I hope people just admire what was built and see the value in it for that. Maybe you can do something like what was done in this video? Maybe you can find people to help you just like these people did? Take control of your life and don't look down on others because they had help come from a more immediate source.

If you search for Tiny houses on Foundations or that don't plan on moving, SOME people make their homes a little higher. For other's restricted by the 13ft+ rule they either: 1. made a low ceiling in their living room below since people spend most of their time sitting 2. made a lower level bedroom & put the living room on top with only enough height space to sit on the couch 3. made a bed platform that can be lowered into the Living Room area at night & in the daytime is suspended above, close to the ceiling. 4. made Gooseneck bedrooms, so it's only a few steps up, there's still a lower level, and people can stand upright

@Charlie Vetsworth Vegan or vegetarian, or even just reducing the amount of meat intake in our diets is a huge benefit to the environment and our health. In the US, livestock is the #1 contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, mostly from raising the food to feed the animals before slaughter. From what I've seen and read, being vegetarian or pescatarian can be very healthy and helps lower our impact on the environment, I can't see why being vegan would be any different.

@gordy threehorses In Australia these are classed as caravans so all rules relating to caravans apply. You're allowed to keep a caravan on your property when you already have a house as everyone on the property is assumed to be making use of the house (whether they are or not). If you are on a vacant block, you must already have plans to build a house submitted to the council otherwise it's not allowed. Most people are taking advantage of being remote but really it only takes one nasty person to dobb them in to the council......

Another terrific house, and a young couple living their life right! Loved the colours, material, and layout--and not having to do conversion price-wise, since Aus $, NZ $, and Canadian $ are roughly equivalent. But, I was thrown by the height of the loft - surely that was higher than the 13'6" (4.1m) that we North Americans are usually bounded by for road-worthiness? That extra bit of height would make a huge difference in the only drawback tiny houses tend to have...

Thanks God I live in a culture where being close to the family is not only normal, but praised! In my country, if you started working at 18 and you stayed in your parents house for 8 years, even with a minimal paying job, you would be able to buy your own house with CASH! No debt, no slavery for the rest of your life! So literally, you could be around 26 years old and already have your own house! That is, if you work hard and are smart enough and you save your money and dont waste it on stupid things like new iphones every 2 years, expensive clothes and other unnecessary luxuries just bcoz others around you have it. I am so grateful to have two loving parents who were beyond happy that all these years I stayed with them! It wasnt a problem for them just bcoz I stayed in my room till I saved money. What parent would consider this a problem? Mine were happy that I spent time with them and its not like I took something from them. If I wasnt there, that same room would be empty. What parent wouldnt want to be near his child? This is absurd to me. I dont understand why would I pay the rent to some stranger and make him rich and I could be at my parents home for free and save for my own house? And one day when they will not be able to take care of themselves, I will be there for them and help them physically, emotionally and financially just as they did with me. Its called THE CIRCLE OF LIFE! So many "independent" people here with huge debt around their neck. Keep praising yourself and call others pathetic. That tells a lot about someones character! It is so clear that many are just jealous and trying to disguise it with looking down upon those who have parents who actually care for their children. *** I was referring ONLY to comments who were disrespectful and are now deleted by youtube or moderator, not those who say that the title is misleading bcoz it kinda is (actually, I see that the title is changed now). I know that not everyone has support from family and friends and their own land. Just wanted to clear that up bcoz my comment was misunderstood by some people. ***

They had such a large advantage. Her family had land and her father is a builder. They were also able to live with family for a year. Sounds like they've benefitted greatly from her father's hard work of acquiring the land and possibly providing the home they lived in for a year. The space looks great and I love the stair railing.

so what? jealous ? people work hard so that their children can have better lives. Then their children can choose to do the same for grand children. Always get excited when I see a low cost....until it is explained that the house is on family property, was self built and the owners lived with family for a period of time to be able to afford. Without these vital cost savers, even a tiny house is still out of reach for many people. :(

Great video but would love it if they went (even briefly) into detail about a) how they access/empty compost, b) how they get their clean water/where they put their gray/grey water, c) how/what material they built upon the trailer frame as foundation, d) whether they framed in wood or something else, e) what the floor is made of, f) where they get their electricity, g) what type of permit is needed and what type of build is this considered at the govt (county/shire) level - is it considered a non-permanent, non-dwelling trailer and does that circumvent the permit process? ...and so on. Practical things that viewers could use in their own design. I love the design elements, but I would like to see a balanced incorporation of the functions, systems, permits and build techniques. Including that will help people to take the next step and DIY. I agree, many of us don't have relatives with free land or skills in construction - so that type of info would be helpful imho.
@tonytunbridge6275

Do you really expect all of that in a 15 minute video? There are plenty of books and online resources if you want the nitty-gritty of how to build a tiny house, and their are adult education courses for learning building skills. Building regulations vary from place to place, so it would be no use to you knowing the legalities for this particular location.

Just a small reminder to people looking to do the same - Just going out collecting wood like that from reserves and national parks is illegal in many states in Australia and if caught you could face fines, so please be careful. Sometimes you might be able to get a permit. Fallen wood is expected to be left to provide habitat for native mammals, reptiles, insects, plants and fungi.

A huge part of what stopped us both from going to uni was the debt - on average, 3 years of uni leave individuals with £27,000 in debt just for the course and not including the living part of life (that's in the UK) - so I can definitely relate. Life is not a checklist that we have to tick off as quickly as possible. :) - Polly
@livingbig

Yeah. Uni debt is getting out of hand. We have allowed universities and educational institutions to become like businesses, focused on profit rather than effective education and preparation for life. The average debt that people graduate with is astounding, and a definite hinderance to a good start in life.
