Well presented, video a little ouchy, but well done and true. One thing you did miss is using the Uni knot as a stopper knot for slip bobbers. Tight lines and fair winds.

This knot is new to me and been fishing for years . Always use the fishermen's knot that was on the side of the mono line box when I was 6 years old . I'm 59 now .Love it

Actually a 4th way! This knot is tried and truly proven to be easy AND STRONGER than most ANY other knot, Period! With braid it requires more wraps and heavier mono or fluoro less. Pro Tip: This is pretty much unknown (TMK), it can even be utilized as a loop knot If you use your fingernail to slide it backward slightly after snugging tight to the eye of a lure. It will slide up to re-snug against the lure or hook eye under pressure of a Fish On! : ) This can be done repeatedly to form the small loop again, for more lure action. Try it, Tight lines!

Help me out here. I know what your talking about with making a loop knot with it but is there not a fear of the line rubbing and burning itself as it slides back tight under pressure? I discovered what your talking about by accident one day but always wondered about weakening the line. Thanks ahead of time!

I agree, the Uni is good for most everything. However, I would suggest an FG knot for the leader. Much slimmer and more streamlined for passing through guides smoothly.
@Lifetime_Angler
@Lifetime_Angler Год назад
Depends on my fishing if I plan to cast that day then yes I take the extra time I need to tie the fg knot if I’m just dropping bait the uni I can tie quicker and trust it’s strength the same. Thanks for watching and the feedback!

Four knots you should know. Arbor knot for respooling, improved clinch knot for hooks and lures, uni to uni for tying two lines together. Paloma knot for fire line. I suppose a loop knot too, but it's one I never use.

I’ll agree but with the addition of knowing how to snell a hook and man that loop knot is a must know for me. Curious what do you fish for mostly? Loop knot is big for me with all my crappie fishing. Bass I go big on a palomar and cats I go heavy on a snelled hook

@@Lifetime_Angler I'm a multi species guy. I live a couple of blocks from the Des plaines river in IL. The most prevalent species are carp, northern pike, and channel catfish. The cats are a recent arrival due to the deconstruction of all the dams. A lot of other fish have shown up. It used to be carp and northern mostly, throw in the occasional large mouth and bullheads of course. There's a lot of fish I have caught that are catch and release award worthy. Biggest fish.... carp 36 inches, pike, 34 in, ( there are bigger fish of both ) walleye 23 in, Sauger 19 largemouth 16 in hybrid striper 15, small mouth
@peterolbrisch8970

@@Lifetime_Angler Oops, let me continue... smallmouth 15 iin, crappie 13 in. White sucker 20 in. Bluegills now school up instead of being a solitary catch, the biggest go about eight inches. My setup is a light action that's spooled with six pound fireline, I used to use four but the move up to six hasn't changed my results negatively, and I have way less break ups than before. I fish with nightcrawlers on that, with a thill center slider and a number eight tru turn hook, the fine wire hooks for trout and crappie, not the thick bait holder hooks. In the nineties when the Chicago river started making a comeback, I cought thousands of largemouth on this rig. Average sixty to seventy a day. Mostly dinks the first couple years eight to ten inch average and a very occasional 12 inch. One day I brought ten dozen crawlers and got well over 200 largemouth. Then the fish got bigger. You wouldn't catch 60 or 70 a day, it was in the 30 to 40 daily average, but these fish were 14 to 16 inches long. Those two years were fantastic, and then word got out, and the numbers crashed so I don't go there often anymore. But last year the dam was removed, and I plan to go soon to see what's up. A great river for big bluegills. Lots of big carp, nice channel cats and I've seen a big salmon get pulled out of there but the main draw has always been the bass. My other rig is a medium action with ten pound fireline. I use this for fishing lures for pike and whatever else. I always thought using a wire leader was as good as using a loop knot but I want to try using fifty to sixty pound fluorocarbon instead. Do you think this will work better than a wire leader for crankbaits if I use a loop knot? What about inline spinners? Any recommendations? By the way, I'm really old school, so when I started fishing as a young man I wanted my reel to work like when I was a kid. So instead of figuring out how to set the drag because I was clueless, I put the drag as high as it would go and backreel the fish in. I haven't caught a single fish using the drag, I always backreel. Thank you for your time and interest and your reply. Any tips on loop knots would be much appreciated. There are some BIG northerns, I have battled my share, I believe there are forty inch plus out there. Also, why do you use a snell knot for catfish? Best fishes!

Sounds like you’ve had some fun over the years! I snell the hook for catfish when using rod and reel because I tend to have a better hook set on the fish that way with the circle hooks. Before I started doing it I’d get alot of fish just barely caught by the skin. Personally haven’t had a chance to go after northern pike but would like to one day. As far as the wire leader vs a loop knot with the action I’d imagine it would be pretty similar depending on the design of the leader. I’d look up the perfection loop knot for what your wanting to try, the one I use for crappie I wouldn’t trust to hold up against the northerns. I haven’t seen anyone backreel on a fish in a long time but it definitely works a lot of us get spoiled with everything we have easy access too now. My best day as far as numbers go with bass has been right around 30 so no where near your glory days there! Best of luck and reach out if you have any questions I’d be glad to help best I can!

@@Lifetime_Angler Catching a lot of dinks was great fun, but nothing really that notable because it was an emerging fishery that I luckily stumbled upon when I was on a bus going to a local pond and another rider told me that I could catch bluegill and carp in the Chicago river. So I decided to try it because it was an interesting mix and I had never fished there. I didn't catch any carp or bluegill but I did catch 35 dink bass. But the years after that when you could get thirty fish in the 14 to 16 inch range was truly fantastic. So after finding out about the Chicago river I found what I thought was a good spot and caught those dinks, but I wasn't at the exact spot the guy in the bus told me about. So after fishing at the first spot a few more times I got curious about that spot the guy on the bus told me about. The problem was that I had turned north instead of south. I wasn't very familiar with the river yet. So one day I headed south. I had checked a map. It wasn't hard to miss because it was where the north shore channel empties into the Chicago river. I didn't search for that spot the first time because I can be lazy and walking that far to find that spot after walking as far as I already had, I wasn't about to retrace my steps and the spot I was at looked good enough. So I finally headed south one day and found the confluence. To my surprise, there were about twenty people there fishing. There were 6 or 7 guys fishing across the river on the east side, about eight or nine guys fishing on the south side of the channel and there were at least five people fishing the north side of the channel. This is the spot I arrived at. The reason there were less people where I was because it was the hardest spot to get to because of the terrain and the layout. There was plenty of room and no one shyed me away, in fact I was welcomed. The year was 1996 and people were not as knowledgeable about fishing as they are today. So while there were a lot of people fishing, not many fish were being caught. So I wormed up my light action and started pulling out fish after fish. Dinks yes but it was pretty cool. Every one near me started asking me how I was doing it. I was a very experienced float ( bobber ) fisherman by then and had developed a keen sense of what every little movement of the float indicated. I had learned this technique by fishing for very finicky bass at a local pond. One of the people there "accused" me of having better worms. I told her that wasn't it at all, and offered to switch worms with her. She was amazed that I cought a fish using her worms. I showed her all the differences in our setups. She listened carefully and after I showed her my float was skinny and she was using a round bobber that the fish could feel when pulling the bait under because of water resistance. I showed her the difference in line, she was using heavier line with a too big hook. After showing her every difference she would go back to her friends and tell them he said do this, he said do that, all in hushed tones like it was a big secret. It was quite humourous. I was out fishing these other twenty people ten to one, which is a ratio of 200 to one. I began fishing there five times a week. Some people would kid me and say that's the same fish and he started calling me babe after Babe Winkelman a tv show fisherman. I became known as the local guru. One morning on my day off I decided to go there early at around nine, to beat the crowd, I'm not really a morning guy as I like to fish at dusk. About an hour later a guy showed up with his son. He saw me getting fish after fish and he said he had heard about me, he said you must be the guy who catches all the fish.Trying to be humble ( not like now obviously) I said I'm not sure about that and he said no no they said you use a long poll and stand on this rock and catch a fish on every cast. It was a thrill to realize I had reached this level of recognition. Then about a week later, another guy started studying me and what I was doing. He didn't want to ask outright. So for a month every time I was there he would soon show up, watching me when he had his line out of the water. After a few weeks he had his eureka moment and said loudly I got it, this is how he does it. Don't cast into the school, cast to the side of it and let your bobber ( float ) drift into the school. When the bobber gets there jig it once and shoot out some slack. Then the bobber goes down and it's fish on. I hope you can find a good spot for pike, they bite anything. They're so mean I have cought them without hooking them because they won't let go of the lure.Thanks so much for the advice and reply. Best fishes!

Why would you sneel the hooks?
@Lifetime_Angler
@Lifetime_Angler Год назад
The big reason for me is that some hooks it helps with to setting action of the hook. Also I find it a lot easier to snell a hook with larger mono than to tie a regular knot in that thick line. Some would argue more strength but I think that is a 50/50 at best depending on your knot and how well it’s tied.
