Just finished after 105hrs amazing hours, this has easily become one of my favorite games of all time. The one real complaint I have that plagues the game is the truly god awful inventory system its so unorganized and irritating to try and find anything.
I feel there are so many conversations, arcs and characters interactions that some of the story might feel uninspired, but there are some moments that are VERY good. So I do not agree with the uninspired narrative.
I found the story intriguing at first but it gets unremarkable real quick. You do the same thing in each area practically the whole game. So it feels a bit rinse and repeat til the end
Loving this game. It fulfills voids that were left empty by Triangle Strategy and is up there with other 2D RPGs like the Octopath Traveler series. At first glance, this looks like a $40 indie game, but even after just starting the demo I was easily persuaded it was AAA worth $60. The sheer level of detail is amazing and if anyone has played the Ogre Battle series or Final Fantasy Tactics games, they'll like this. It is a spiritual successor to these types of games. I'm 43 hours in and just now finishing up Drakenhold (really taking my time and doing every quest and exploring everything). I really hope we continue to get more games like this. New VanillaWare fan right here!
I think the story is fine. It doesn't have to reinvent the wheel. Theres so much to think about and so many characters to keep straight that prefer a more straightforward story.
@@hellchemical I mean ive finished TZ and still trying to finish killing the Amalia...I think they have alot to improve on but its solid 9/10...any game you can play for 100 plus hours should be a 9/10
Been looking forward to this one for awhile now and it does not disappoint. I'm absolutely loving it. I have some small gripes with it here and there but it's mostly nitpicky stuff. Like, I wish I could have more interaction with the towns such as to wonder about. The game is so beautiful, I want more.
Really after hearing the whole thing I thought it would get a 9. I heard so many gamespot reviews saying much worse things about the games and they still end up getting a 9. I think this games deserves more than ever. It is so far the best game of 2024.
@@kylerobinson6102still don't understand why Dragon's Crown has no PC port! I went looking for it last year for PC because I thought surely they'd have ported it by now. The answer is no. You have to emulate it. Lame!
@@melanp4698Its because piracy is rampant and easy on pc. Game publishers will maximize sales first before a pc release, by design. A current gen console is a lot harder to pirate.
Atlus published a statement saying that, apparently, they did offer to handle a PC port and Vanillaware said nope. Betting on a Japanese boomer CEO being behind that.
They hit the limit of the budget so focused on what had the largest audience and what they knew they could complete. People will likely never be able to accept the reality that pc is still the minority for almost every genre but it’s still a fact that companies consider when making various versions of
@randomguy6679 I wouldn't know because I haven't played the Doom games, all I know is that having a good story is what sets a game apart from being memorable years down the line. How likely are you to remember Doom for anything other than a shooter with a good soundtrack in the future?
@@gibbygibbstein7858 I don’t know, why don’t you ask Doom from 1993 that’s so famous that it inspired ID software to make a Doom reboot about 23 years later? And last I checked, nobody cared about that game’s story either. On that note: how’s the story in Super Mario 64? Or Tetris? Or Crash Bandicoot?
A game's story doesn't have to be revolutionary to be good. A good, well told story, even if it is simple is miles better than a story that tries to reinvent the wheel just for the sake of being ''innovative''.
1st u can just skip unit combat every battle with start button so u can just focus to placing ur units, But like people above me talking, playing with highest difficulty u will starting to learn micro managing every ur unit works & looking back how ur strategy works in every combat. I really doubt u talking like just watching again after having that experience
Realistically it's a 7/10 just decent Would give it 9/10 if you could control your main captains during battle individually in battle selecting skills not have it automated, thats a huge let down.
After a couple hours there's not much point watching the battles play out so i don't really see the hype. I've never been a fan of tactics games but if i was i'd probably be calling this a "My first tactics game". They shouldhave made a turn based jrpg.
I doubt it's going to get one. None of Vanillaware's games have ever come to PC. ATLUS even said they wanted to do a PC version, but VW didn't want to include it in their deal.
@@FennecZephyr Atlus needs to pay Vanillaware & outsource to another studio to make a PC port then. It's a pile of money they're leaving on the table. There are millions of people who would be interested in Vanillaware games on PC, so hopefully something changes in the future.
For sure an 9 its excellent to play this game on consoles it would be an 10 if you could give custom names to Mercenaries you can hire but its only an minor issue i have with this gem of an game
8. Story gets real thin. No real meaningful decisions. Combat while beautifully animated, you’ll probably end up skipping most of it after a few hours of play. To be a 9/10 I think it needs a more impactful story, and also the game is too easy.
