Hi John. love your videos. I was just wondering are you trying to keep the radio original? I know of a transformer company that would either rewind or make a new one at a reasonable price, not sure where you are in London but they are near colchester and make transformers for victory amplifiers. I will try and dig out their details I wanted an output transformer for a pair of EL34 and I was expecting to good money and I was shocked at how cheep it was. granted it was before COVID
Interesting radio John can’t say I’ve seen one before. Maybe you could just fit a standard type transformer instead of an exact replacement to get it going? Good luck either way 👍
Hi Chris, I hadn't seen one before either. I think the radio is worth sorting out, I may just look for a transformer with similar windings or possibly explore getting this one rewound.
I found in old stuff like this the Bridge rectifier diodes like to just give up, a simple £1 diode caused so much trouble but once found as the cause a similar radio was up and running as good as new.. maybe just simple old age ??
Hi Mark, I am not sure what has made the transformer give up the ghost, a surge maybe? There was a shorted diode on the rectifier board but had another diode in series with it and that was OK, so I don't think that was the issue. It would be nice to get it running again. The receiver is super sensitive and the radio is in good condition. I have been looking at a FT101-ZD transformer as a possible replacement, it has very simulator winding voltages. Not sure what to do with it if I am honest.
