I currently own this receiver now for six years. I am lucky that MY local police, fire, ems are still analog. I do have agencies that have gone digital near me, but I really don't need to depend on them for information. I have wanted to do digital for a while and am having an internal fight with myself, whether to bite the bullet and get the SDS 200 base with all the upgrades. I am being told the SDS 200 is the #1 top of the line, and my finger is on the trigger waiting to squeeze. I just get this feeling if I do get it, something better will come out that has more features, or can do something the SDS 200 can't do. Any way, my BCT 15X has been a beautiful receiver, never any issues, very easy to program, the audio is clean and crisp, and it looks like I just took it out of the box. I have the Tram discone antenna that pulls in EVERYTHING within a 50 mile range. If I am happy with the SDS 200, It will be sold or passed on to someone who would have a need for it and don't care about the digital part of it.
Great review. For those who are a bit cheaper, Uniden's BC125xt is (surprisingly) nearly as good- it's receiver, coverage, and overall value is easily the best in scanning at only $116 on Amazon. Oh, just one thing: ALL of the small "coil" style factory whip antennas really should be replaced immediately. That TRAM you got is making a massive improvement. In fact, the difference is honestly enough to make swapping antennas mandatory.
This looks to have been made a lot more complicated to use that it could have been.Is it possible to just tap a frequency in through the keypad and listen to it without having to actually program it?
Actually you can, I did it with the bcd996p2 im sure you can with this just try. I think I hit hold scan then entered the frequency dont forget the decimal point. Then it will ask to quick save say yes.
What antenna are you using with it, I just had to return the uniden bcd996p2 because I tried 3 antennas including the bingfu dipole antenna for scanners and the emergency frequencies sounded horrible, so what antenna?
@@CinematicTouchProductions Make sure your area is analog still this is not a digital scanner I'm just lucky my area hasn't made the switch to p25 or digital yet.
