I picked up this inexpensive Uniden Bearcat BC75XLT Handheld Scanner recently and wanted to do a quick unboxing and initial setup and overview of it for my channel.
I love these simple conventional scanners and they definitely still have their place for use. I've found several new frequencies for this radio in my area in addition to the many digital systems that I Scan with my SDS100.
So far the BC75XLT has been excellent for Airband and Ham listening. I have also been using it for some local State Police frequencies that are conventional as well that are in the 460mhz range and the stock antenna has been performing great!
Stay tuned for more upcoming videos on this radio as well as new tips and tricks for the SDS100 and more on the old Radioshack pro 164 Scanner I still use.
If you have any suggestions, tips or requests make sure to leave them in the comments below and thanks for watching! Sub and like if you found this useful. Cheers!

Info from Uniden on the BC75XLT -
The Bearcat BC75XLT is a brand new low-cost scanner from Uniden. This radio is compact, easy-to-program with solid audio and a big bright numeric display. It's a great entry-level portable scanner but it will not work with 800 MHz, trunking and digital systems which are used in many areas of the country. This radio is perfect though for monitoring public safety agencies that use conventional analog radios as well as railroads, marine, auto racing and civilian and commercial aviation (not military).
This scanner also includes Uniden's incredible Close Call technology for rapidly finding active channels, service searches, priority and more. It operates on two AA batteries and can be powered and re-charged using USB cords (adapters available). The radio comes with a rubber-duck antenna, belt clip, charging cable and manual. It's an all-around great basic scanner and for the sophisticated hobbyist, it's really useful as a backup or Close-Call only radio to have in your car or at-the-ready for emergency weather monitoring at home.
Product Features:
300 Channels / 10 Bank
PC Programmable
Compact Design - The Uniden BC75XLT is designed to be compact for added flexibility and portability.
Close Call(TM) RF Capture Technology - Instantly tunes to signals from nearby transmitters
Frequency Coverage - Includes the most interesting "action" bands where you can hear police, ambulance, fire, amateur radio, public utilities, weather, and more.
10 Preprogrammed Service Searches - Frequencies are Preset in Separate Police, Fire/Emergency, Aircraft, Ham, Marine (by channel) and Weather Banks to make it easy to locate specific types of calls.
Backlit Display - Makes It Easier to Read Display in Low Light Conditions
2 AA Battery Operation - Provides flexibility in the choice of batteries: Alkaline for long life, rechargeable for the economy (batteries can be charged while in the scanner)
Priority Scan - Frequently scans the channels you have designated as priority channels
Delay - Helps prevent missed replies during 2-way conversations
Included in the Box:
• BC75XLT Scanner
• USB Programming/Power Cable
• Rubber Duckie Antenna
• Owner's Manual
Make sure to save my website boyandascanner.com I will be putting up information there as well. Cheers!

Thanks I never thought you could do that with the power bank! I bought a magnetic wideband antenna and used a pie pan as ground plane 😊

I have Uniden radios. You don't press 1+0 to get to bank 10. Actually it's just 0. If you press 1+0 you are locking out bank 1. That's why in this video bank 1 was locked and to be pressed again to get 1 back on.

Do you think this would definitely pick up my local police, fire and rescue? I was told they had switched frequencies and I hafta have digital and triple trunking

@@marcustaylor6458 You would have to check for your area but most emergency services are switching or have already switched to encrypted digital signals.

I’m new to the scanning world, and I picked this same scanner up at Walmart. I love this thing! It’s relatively easy to operate, and I think it’s a great scanner for beginners! Upgraded to a HYS BNC Gooseneck antenna & got way better range out of it.

I've enjoyed mine but for about $20.00 more you can get the 125 AT that comes with Rechargeable batteries and charging cable + you can program in the Alpha names of the frequencies which makes it easier to know who you are monitoring especially if you are like me and can pick up several miles of chatter from police \emergency ect. If you want longer runtime batteries get the AA lithium batteries but please use the ion charger and do not charge them inside your radio because the charging output is calibrated for Ni cad batteries.

You missed the voice channel frequency ? - luckily I can help - try 467.5625 Mzh :-) - Seriously - a suggestion. How does performance in: 1. Scan speed (of programmed frequencies) 2. Reception compare to a 50 USD Baofeng UV-5R ? The Baofeng is my cheap bring along, when I don’t want to bring my extremely expensive SDS-100 along.

Good informative video thank you. I'm torn between buying the 75 xlt or the 125xlt. It's strange the UK police have used Airwave radios for about 18 years. Digital all encrypted comms and a different frequency selected every time the PTT is press from any radio. All public services here slowly moving over to this system but still interesting analogue stuff about.

I am new to this sport, is it normal for my device to hiccup? The sound bleeps every 2 seconds cutting out signals. I can't understand what they're saying, it's annoying. I have the uniden 75 like this one.

@@BoyAndAScanner hey, I have another question, if you don't mind. I just figured out my bc75xlt is a 300 channel scanner. What's the difference between a 300 or 500 channel scanner. I should have bought the 500 channel 125 model. Also, how many watts does the 75 run? Also, is this unit a uhf line of sight radio or is it considered a HAM Radio? Sorry to ask so many questions. Thank you, have a nice day.
