Both are great looking radios. I have the BCD996P2 and I love this scanner. Problem I am having before a buy a more expensive radio is that most places are starting to scramble their radio traffic. And I hate to buy this radio and can only listen to farmer or the power company. Anyway great video.
Great radio! I still mess about with my UBC125xlt listening to airtraffic. I am looking at one for later in the year, it will be a credit card job. Great watching you get yours. Delighted for you! How has that internal antenna worked out? I am guessing at this price range you have this hooked up to som high external ones?
I'm jealous you have both of these new models. Lol. Very nice. I'm in Canada. How easy is this (either model) to program vs my 996xt using freescan? I'm very amature at this stuff. Does the sentinel software make it easier? Does it use radio reference etc? Also. Does the GPS dongle come with the sds200? Thanks in advance. I wish they had of put the ethernet front and rear like the micro usb. But overall the sds200 looks nice. Are you pleased with the sds200. Or prefer the sds100 etc?
They tried to go encrypted in New Orleans when they adopted the P25 system. The people demanded they keep the system open, so they could hear where the crime was happening, & how the police were working. They even got the feed put on the Internet. When I select 'local' on my Internet radio, 'Scanner New Orleans (LA) Police' is one of the choices that pops up. Some Louisiana Parishes (known as counties in the rest of the USA) in Louisiana are encrypted, but some aren't, even though most are on the Statewide P25 trunking system. Same in Mississippi, the counties near me aren't encrypted.
Does yours have the buzzing noise come from speaker when scanning, even with volume at 0, also how bright are your keypad lights? Mine where DIM i couldnt even see them in the dark
How are you liking the scanner? Liking mine pretty well, on my 3rd one, trying to find one that didn’t make the hum noise, but no luck, its only a slight hum now, in the background during transmissions. Other than that, its very nice.
Michael - I already have the SDS100 and waiting for my SDS200 - I really think that putting the LAN plug on the front panel was a big mistake (vs the rear) - Good video !!!
I agree with you about the LAN connection. I understand it might be handy if the scanner was mounted in your car dash but it is still a pain to get in and out easily. Thanks for the compliment about the video... it was quick and dirty but I think it served a purpose.
@@scanmikey I didn't know you had Ethernet in your vehicle....so I fail to understand why you would want/need/require an Ethernet cable attaching to the front of this unit, or how in any way it would be handy..... it is a horrible design. Your video sucked balls, delete this from youtube....thanks!!
I was extremely disappointed that I had to send my SDS100 back due to it not picking up my state police channels (P25 system) that my other scanners pick up with no issues. Hopefully they fixed the issue(s) as I would like to some day get another SDS100 and an SDS200 ...
I am pretty sure You Tube has a rule saying that if you buy a $700 scanner and post a video of it using only a single color for the display that you will be banned. LOL.
Do you feel like there's a little play on the silver function knob? I purchased one today and it doesn't feel like it is going to fall off but it's not nearly as tight feeling as the volume and squelch.
could you tell me the model of the diamond Antenna that you hooked into the 200? The only ones I can find on Diamond's webpage seem to be 'whip' antennas for the hand-held 100. Thanks.
Michael - I am looking to get either the 100 or 200. Whats the performance difference like if any? I have not had a new scanner since the AOR AR 8200, so anything is an upgrade to me, just wondering what the advantages are of the 200 over the 100. Looks like you live in TN too! I am in Wilson County, MT Juliet. Also where did you buy it from and what are all the Dbase upgrades about? Is that something I can do myself?
From what I have seen so far, the performance is pretty much the same between the 100 and 200. I guess the only real difference is the form factor. Do you want a mobile or a handheld? You can't go wrong with either, in my opinion. I also own an 8200 (along with an 8000) but neither get much use anymore. They were definitely great receivers for their time. I bought both my SDS scanners from Jeff at Hamstation and I wholeheartedly recommend them. The database is a working copy of the entire RadioReference frequency/system database and is downloaded to the sd card of the scanner when you update/program your scanner using Sentinel. This is what allows you to program your scanner using just your zip code and it is updated every week on Monday. It is very easy to do! I am from East Tennessee myself... born in Cleveland and now I call Maryville home. Good luck with your upgrade. Coming from an ar8200, these new scanners are going to seem like magic.
Michael Ellis Thanks Michael, this is good info, thanks for taking the time to reply so quickly. I am actually originally from the UK, moved to NJ 6 years ago and now I am in this awesome state. I love TN. I had the 8200 for a long time and in fact spent 2 hours last night getting it working, the battery connectors had corroded! I fixed that and it's good to go but it got me interested again! I just ordered the SDS100 with the upgraded 800mhz antenna, I have a Watson 881 on the AOR so ordered an SMA adaptor as well then I will use that for Airband. I am looking forward to results of the new scanner over the 8200. I played with that last night after i repaired it and performance was not great. I may put a small antenna in the attick as well. Thanks for your input!
I have had the SDS 100 since day one release. Best P25 scanner I have ever owned. From everything I see, hear, read, the 2 are the same performance wise. So you want a scanner that will sit on a desk or mount in a vehicle, or one that you can take everywhere you go? Mine travels with me everywhere! I would NEVER choose a mobile/base over a portable IF I am only going to have one or the other. Software is so simple to use after you watch a video or 2. Never pay someone to do something you can and will have to do in the future! You will have to update your programming occationally.
Is this the reason why the SDS100 stopped getting sold by Uniden on Amazon or is it anothe reason? The only options to buy it are from third party sellers.
@@Sulfen The only thing that matters to companies like Uniden is profit. Uniden is totally unresponsive to customers but not to Amazon. Amazon had to accept so many returns, Uniden could not ignore them. Returning an item is the only thing that gets these bastards attention, because it interrupts their money flow.
The only thing that sucks with Uniden Scanners is that you have to pay for updates! That's what I like about Whistler is that you don't want to pay for updates!
In the video, I was just getting the scanner on the network. Ultimately, I was able to use ProScan to control and listen to the scanner remotely. Apparently, it is possible to FTP in to the scanner to do updates and possibly program it remotely but I haven't tried that yet.
@@scanmikey does this mean you can listen to scanner anywhere via the network? i never use this feature, so i dont know. like in virginia could i listen to the ohio MARCS system?
@@ScottAReid No, on a basic level, it works just like a 536 on WiFi. Once you have it on your network, you could use third party software (like ProScan) to control and listen to that scanner on your home network. ProScan also allows you to connect to the scanner via the internet (although it requires some additional configuration ).You could probably do what you are asking but it would require someone with a scanner monitoring the MARCS system AND they would have to give you access to the scanner. For more information, I'd recommend you go to proscan.org and check out the features it offers. (I am not affiliated with ProScan in any way but I do use and recommend it.)
@@scanmikey you can also access it from outside your network if you are savvy enough to either forward ports or setup a vpn! I have a vpn setup to access my network from anywhere.
DMR, ProVoice, and NXDN are all digital protocols (like P25) that are used all over the country. Since they are upgrades, you only have to pay for them if you need them. A quick glance at your area in the RadioReference database can tell you if you need any of the upgrades or not.
@@LeeShand Looking at Wilson County in the RadioReference database, Mt Juliet looks to be on the Middle Tennessee Regional Trunked System : www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?sid=7078 . Out of the box, the SDS100 will do P25 Phase 2 so you should be OK without any upgrades.... beware that there are some of the police talkgroups that show they are encrypted so you won't hear everything. However, if you wanted to hear other radio communications in Wilson County: www.radioreference.com/apps/db/?ctid=2522 I am seeing a couple of school VHF frequencies that are NXDN and it looks like Lebanon is fully encrypted for most everything except a few Fire dispatch channels that look to be DMR. I say all of this without being familiar with the systems in your area. Your best bet would be to look at the posts in the Tennessee forums on RadioReference: forums.radioreference.com/forums/tennessee-radio-discussion-forum.18/ If you don't see any specifics about Mt Juliet, you could post there and ask specifically about your area. There will be someone from your area that can give you much better advice.
I was going to buy this but untill I noticed that you have to have the power that cord connected in the front for it to work just sealed the deal how stupid of uniden to put that cord there
Alot of jealousy in the comments, its a paperweight and u have bugs in ur house and you look like you dont know what ur doing...lol. HATERS EVERYWHERE... they are just mad you have the scanner they always wanted..
Useless video almost 15 minutes of nothing ! I set my sds200up in less time and do not have the sds100 as a guide . Some people should not make videos .
