Hey Clay, cheat trick. Use a UniFi network with WAP is "Meshing" mode. Use an AP in the area the data is needed and place an AP with meshing on, connect it to local network first, adopt and configure. Now air-gap it and connect the data-PoE port to a local PoE switch that also feeds the device. The meshing will hook up and allows data to go both directions.
I have a customer who wants to have the live picture of one of his unifi protect cameras combined with some local advertising informations on a big TV screen (digital signage). - First i found the "Unifi Viewport", but this device can only show protect cameras, no still images what i need. - And then there is this Unifi Display Cast, which can only handle media, but no protect camera live view. It's ridiculous. - If unifi let me drop in some dummy camera views/still images which i can arrange in a view around the one real camera that would be also a solution to use "Viewport" for that purpose.
There arre some upcoming software updates to the Cast line. Not sure if they will do what you want (i dont know what they are) but i would keep my eyes out there...
Thank you for showing what this device was capable at the time. I have only recently become aware of this product, so presently see that it has some good improved potential in the right application. Now that Unifi Connect and this device has had about 18 months to mature, like cheese, is it worth while seeing what this can do now and how it compares to the other options as they stand now?
I sure hope this product matures, I just today finally caught one in stock and placed my order, but I really do need some transitions at the very minimum, I currently have (17)85"TV's, and (4)86"TV's in one room of a club, plus many more in VIP rooms, at desks etc, I'm using (3) eight input/ eight output HDBaseT video switchers, so I'm able to have 24 inputs, but realistically I split each input to each of the 3 units so it's truly more like 8. I wish I had known the boss wanted this many TV's, I would have gotten a big modular switcher and it would have been so much easier all around. Appreciate your effort, will look through the channel for others on the subject.
7 months on and still no transitions. Any word on if UniFi will add some of those missing features? Would really like to have transitions and display zones. We've worked around no transitions by uploading an mp4 with announcement slides and transitions baked in and just looping that rather than uploading individual slides
it's still in EA. They're just now adding the ability to do portrait mode so I expect this to be good in a year or two if you're managing a large number of displays. If you're just doing 1 display this is overkill. I've had them hang as well where it goes to blank screen after running for an extended period of time.
What are supported HDMI resolutions and refresh rates ? This is important and missing from products comparison. And I cannot find it in datasheet also.
Do you have the ability to set the amount of time each “slide” s displayed before it switches to the next? What about displaying a live webpage for a weather station that may be at that location?
They need to at LEAST add RSS and HTML support before I'll ditch what I am using. Another nice to have would be on-controller content creation/templates - if I need to quickly drum up an announcement I like the ability to do it without having to open photoshop
