He mentions putting the rubber grommet on before terminating the cable. I prefer to do it this way also, but have forgotten occasionally. Ubiquiti has done a good job with their rubber grommets. They will stretch enough to push an RJ45 jack through them, so don't panic if you forget to put it on first.
I fully agree that they should offer the PoE chime as separate purchase. I ordered the wifi chime as second chime to have the sound on two floors but this is only resulting in huge connection issues losing connection all the time. So a second PoE chime would be a good solution.
Was doing a new build and already has Ethernet run to the doorbell and Ethernet run to where a chime would go. Figured some day someone would come out with this, but in the meantime I would use Ethernet as power wires. Went to buy the PRO which I had been looking at checked the price, went and told the wife, we agreed. 15 min later came back to buy and the POE was there. Figure I might have purchased one of the first ones. Have had it for months and love it!
Adding some form of automated door lock is a must for me. While most of my house is covered by Unifi Cameras, I still use a Simply Safe system purely for the door bell and lock. I need the lock component to end my need to run two systems.
This is my main holdup.. they should either partner with Schlage or provide their own.. if they do add a door lock they need to make it as robust as the best on the market. That would be fantastic to have a heavy duty Unifi managed door lock.. could make it SO much easier than having to use separate apps for current locks. Plus ability to use it to turn on some lights when you unlock and its dark, etc.
It's nice to see the mounting holes on the doorbell align with the previous model, so you don't have to drill new ones. That's something Ring never does.
I installed mine last year when they first came out. I'm very happy with it. I would like to have a slightly louder chime for sure. Perhaps allowing custom chimes might just fix that. And yes, different animations, or even emojis on the LCD screen would be great.
Been looking at this kit to upgrade my current as well as relocate it from door frame to my outer brick as I currently get a limited view and IR washout, Had not realized the chime was POE also just assumed it to be the plug in. Seeing the hole needed for it I will use it as my access hole in the drywall to fish my cables without the need of drywall repair or a blank cover on that wall.
Nice install. The regular doorbell works ok for me but I do need to power it better as it’s just using standard power from a wall plug with the biggest plug & adapter ever
I wouldn't mind updating to the G4 Doorbell Pro, but I can't justify buying another doorbell haha. I had some restarting issues and support had me reset the camera, but I never figured out why it was having problems resetting and not running the chime. I do like that new chime, and it would work great in my hallway just outside my office under my bedroom AP, where I already run networking through a closet.
I really want to love this doorbell, having POE is awesome and I like the ceiling/wall mount for the chime. But three issues prevent me from purchasing: 1. The aesthetics... it's not attractive looking especially compared to the Nest doorbells. 2. No custom animations, 3. No custom chimes. Our family loves the Nest doorbell chimes and we have fun changing them for holidays or birthdays. If customizations could be added for chime & animation, I could look past the appearance.
@@MactelecomNetworks I’d like to see a teardown of that chime…. I’d really like to know what could possibly be in there to make it that big. I’m sure a large speaker but it’s quite large
Love the Unifi System but I wish Ubiquiti would make a doorbell for a single gang box rather than selling an adapter so i could finally kick out my Ring Elite for that!
I have this doorbell. Just waiting for my porch to be refitted before I fit the doorbell. Just one thing though; the doorbell chime seems rather quiet. Could do with being a lot louder so we can hear it over the TV in other rooms.
Finally someone that tells us what happens when the button is produced...but I cannot believe the app doesn't get a push from the doorbell. Can someone confirm?
Hi Cody. You mention a hope the chime was louder than previous versions, but you didnt mention a review of the loudness (maybe I missed it?). Your thoughts on how loud the POE chime is, compared to the previous wifi version? Also, any thoughts on when Unifi will allow multiple POE chimes to be connected to one door bell? I too have a 2 story home. Thanks.
I wanted this model but ended up getting the non Poe version when it was on sale last month. Turns out it was the better choice for me because I can still use my mechanical chime and run the data over the usb c cable to Ethernet for a hardwire install. Also I am hoping for custom images soon too, you can change the image by ssh however it’s not very user friendly nor is it persistent if the camera reboots.
are you still not able to move the package camera image to another corner? it' silly to have it always in the bottom left . . . right on top of the exact location where my packages are dropped.
Love my Doorbell Pro (non-POE). Unlike you I have a double front door so there is a lot of structure around it; more than your door. When I tried to cut out a square to run a new wire to my doorbell I got nothing but 2x4's (roughly as far away as you show in the video), so I had to jerry rig wire from the old doorbell to the brick where the builders had originally ran the doorbell wire but never connected it and patch the wall. (sigh) Yes they need to fix the animation, and I wish they would come out with the lock option for our homes; granted I know they used to one with the Doorbell Pro which was only visiable on the EA USA site but its been long since removed and no follow up. (sad)
My Chime turns RED several time a week and resting it always fixes the problem. I'm a professional network/IT guy so I'm confident it's not a network problem between my doorbell and my UCK-Plus. Also, several things I really don't like about this doorbell camera is the 3x4 display and the fact that you can't select different chime tone or change the chime length! Knowing what I know now, I would not have purchased this doorbell!
Maybe important info to all Ubi users that both versions of Ubi doorbells are using internal battiers which dies after 2-3 years making doorbell devices dead and unoperational. Batteries are of course non-replaceable. This PoE device is somehow bypassing internall battery check via mini USB connctor(non-pro usb mini is hidden behind service label) and making devices to work again even with dead battey inside! At least mine works :-)
I just started with Unifi and I like their products. I really do not care if they are wrapped beautifully and their shop is real shit. It's as if they intentionally made it hard to find complete product specs or information about what products fit what use case. I tried their online designer the other day and found it doesn't support UISP products and the designer looked quite pathetic in general. There are a few things they are doing well, but overall it's still quite painful. Nobody except some Unifi nerds will guess that a button labelled with a big U is meant to ring a bell. Clearly the marketing people keep overruling the usability people.
Cody, do you find that the speaker on the doorbell is loud enough for people that are outside to hear when talking through the Protect app? Also, if you install using the angle bracket, the ethernet bump out appears to not be flush. Did you have to chisel out a hole big enough for the bump out in your brick?
Can I power the doorbell using my existing 12-16V cabling - linking to it wirelessly? Can the POE chime come off an access point? Or does it have to come off the switch?
I don't think you actually said if the doorbell was louder than the previous one you had. Is the volume good on the POE chime? I'll be picking this up once my house is finished being built in November.
Bro do they have wifi built into either the camera or the chime? I don't want any wireless signals coming from either of these devices.. so basically asking is it just hard wired only for both power and data? Thanks
I have the non-poe as well, but used the usb-c to ethernet adapter. The Standard outlet chime is very very low in volume. Interested to know if the new POE Chime is better and louder. Now only if they'd sell it separately (I don't want to buy another doorbell, uggh)
Hi Cody, I have a issue when ringing. There is a delay of 1 or 2 seconds when hitting the button and the sound inside of the chime. You said a millisecond, but first i hear the sound outside and than 2 seconds later inside from the chime
Great Video..can you please do a video on how to create a user. I want my son to have access to the door camera only! I've created a account for him and downloaded the Protect app for his iPhone, but i've hit a wall, and I'm stuck.
Unrelated to the Ubiquiti doorbell, but your door handle lever is upside down... you basically have a LH swing handle on a RH swing door. That's all... goodbye.
So you mounted it with the 3rd bracket option, on the UniFi site I think that’s the cable down outside option? Been looking at the G4 and panicking how much of a hole, but doesn’t look too bad in the end. Flush mount needs a much bigger hole.
Hi there. Thanks for the video. I'm thinking of getting this doorbell but I need to run the ethernet cable down the outside of the wall rather than through the wall and I want to use the angled mount as I can only mount the doorbell to the wall at right angles to the actual door and I want it to be angled towards anyone coming to the door. Do you know if there is a cut out in the angled mount to allow the ethernet cable to come down the wall and into the mount from the top? I've asked Ubiquiti and Unifi Community Support but have not received an answer.
Hi Cody, wondering if you could go into sharing the feed with another user i.e. my wife so she can also answer the door bell remotely? I have not received my kit yet but I cant seem to find how you would do this.
Hey, Yup you can setup as many users as you want. You can either set her up with a local account and then when she’s remote connect to a vpn. Or the easier was is to have remote access enabled. You would then need you wife to have her own Unifi account and you can add her
If you have the doorbell at 2 locations do you have a different chime to let you know which door bell was pressed? Again if you have 2 do both chimes go off or only the one for that doorbell?
With this being POE, is it safe to assume it's also sending not just power, but data over ethernet rather than WiFi? Also how responsive are the notifications when you are away from home? I have Nest Hello wired (for power only) doorbell at the moment and finding that when I'm at work even with excellent Wifi, by the time the app loads, then the camera feed loads, I've totally missed the person at the door. I want to make sure this product works much better before i take the plunge and make the purchase and start trying to get ethernt to my front door etc.
Cody since you had the WiFi version is did you find this to provide any meaningful differences? I do know the WiFi version has weak WiFi but im curious if you seen any other improvements.
Thanks for great vedio's, Needs help with setting up my MDU, now I am using the ISP modem that plugged RJ11 to it , and it's using the IP 192.168.1.1 which is the UDM default IP, Now I want to setup to make my UDM to be everything with the default IP instead the ISP modem, and just setup the ISP as Internet paypass to UDM and change the ISP to any, also as I know will connect the ISP lan port to UDM wan port is that correct ? Thanks for help
If I wanted to route Ethernet from the top, is there a slot in the gangbox or backplate to allow for this? Or, is it only designed to accept Ethernet from directly behind the unit?
The wifi doorbell is absolutely terrible. Way too quiet and so many connection issues that mine isn't working at all anymore. I wish we could get the PoE chime separately. Another nice addition to the doorbell itself would be to upload a custom image to the screen so you could have it branded for business use.
I installed my poe chime in a double J-box and it was still a PITA, nothing fits properly as far as cover plates, screw hole alignment, etc. I regret buying it. I have a wifi chime in addition to the PoE chime and it won't even alert you when there's motion at your doorbell, only when someone presses the doorbell. what would really be neat is if you could customize alert tones for smart motion and doorbell presses and also give it a silent mode on a schedule so that you can mute it, but have a super bright blue ring pulsate when someone presses the doorbell, and strobe for a certain duration when the doorbell detects motion. That way if you're up late watching tv, you can see the chime flash and not let it wake the wife, kids, etc everytime a cat walks on the porch.
it's too bad that the unifi chime (both poe and wifi) will not alert you when there's motion picked up from the doorbell camera, i mean my $99 ring camera chime does this, with separate customizable alerts for doorbell presses and motion detection. can you pull some strings or put in a good word at Unifi and hopefully we'll see a future firmware update with these changes?
