Just would like to add, If for some reason you go over 3000 minutes on a line, You pay $0.02/min for US/CAN/MEX. International is different depending on which country you're calling.
On your cost analysis you only have 1 line on unifi and you have 5 lines on vonage meaning you could have only 1 person using a phone at a time vs 5 concurrent calls. This would still only bring unifi up to $50/month which is still 1/3 the price. I currently have 30 phones and I probably only need 10-15 lines but i'm paying for 30 because of that stupid price structure they all use. I'm excited about unifi talk, but I'm probably going to wait until next year to look into it. I also am wondering if you will be able to plug in a phone anywhere on the internet and connect to the SIP server or if it has to be on the LAN or VPN with the dream machine
Actually, he has 5 extensions, which are not 5 separate lines. It is one physical phone line (number) with 5 phones and each phone has an extension number, like extension 100, 102, 105, and so forth. The customer would get to decide what exact extension numbers they wanted. Vontage is charging for each extension, which is actually equating out to charging for each physical phone; plus an additional charge for the phone number. So, in his case, while using Vontage, only one call can be made in or out, regardless of the number of extensions you may have.
@@Polkster13 I'm current using Fonality and that isn't correct from my experience. 5 different people could call your 1 phone number and you could have 5 concurrent calls
@@Polkster13 from my understanding the phone numbers are just a routing tool and has nothing to do with how many concurrent calls you can have. How many lines/SIP trunks determines how many concurrent calls
@@JankyShack At my last place of employment, we had three outgoing telephone numbers but 20+ extensions. Once the three lines were tied up, no one else could make a call. Our extensions could all access each number, but only one extension could "use" that line at a time unless we were doing a conference call. That is my experience and of which I spoke. If it can be done differently, then I don't have experience with those types of systems. Maybe the content provider can clarify which type system they are currently using with Vonage.
I appreciate the conversation being had in this thread! I can clear a few things up:) So, with my current setup with Vonage, I only have 1 actual phone number (or line). All of the extensions can make congruent calls based on that phone number (in or out). I am paying per extension on Vonage, with only a small fee for the actual number. On UniFi, which I am testing as we speak, I am not paying per extension, I am paying per phone number (line) at about 10 bucks per month. All of my phones (or extensions) can make congruent calls based on number as well. So it is a much better deal. The catch is you only get 3,000 minutes per line on UniFi, so that's where it stops being a better deal. In my case, I would save a huge amount of cash cause we don't spend much time on the phones.
I like this. Vera simple setup and Good funktionalitet, BUT and its a big one, here in Europe we are already beyond desk phones in general. No one is deploying them anymore unless for very specific use cases where this system is too simple. Instead we use cell phones with a land line number and cloud pix attached, you can make and receive calls, transfer calls or log in to or out of call queues through the PBX via an app on the cellphone and dial or receive calls just like any other cellphone calls. Use the headset you normally use and use the PBX voicemail as usual. We simply have already gone past this solution. I don’t see this being a great hit in Europe. It in some way show that the US is a bit strange. Innovative on one hand and slow to adopt new tech at the same time.
We certainly are a bit strange here in the US:) That's good information to know. While softphones are certainly common for us, I most often see people using a hybrid approach where they have a combination of desk phones and soft phones. I am interested to see whether or not UniFi decides to integrate soft phones directly with a companion smartphone app or something like that.
Can I use the UniFi Talk devices on my network only? No phone numbers associated to any devices but able to communicate with other UniFi phones on the same network without phone numbers (just extensions)? I plan on using them internally only with zero phone numbers.
A few notes as feedback: 1) I see the improvements made from the last video have been put into place, this great to see! The placement of the webcam is great, and I think the format really makes this high quality. 2) However, something with the audio has changed also since the last video. I notice you’re in a different place for recording and or the microphone used is different to the last video. This was instantly noticeable, the audio that is, and I think trying to keep the audio quality and clarity as consistent as possible improves your video’s and channel’s level of quality big time! 😊 This video’s audio is usable, just a bit more muffled in comparison to your last video. 3) The video’s visuals, with the fade in and out of the images, is an excellent touch! 4) At the example cost analysis, at 05:58, you have an astricts (*) under the table with “All figure shown are before TAX.” Now an Astricts (*) is only required in this sort of case if only certain figures on the table don’t include TAX but others do. So, you have a mix of both. You use the astricts on the end of those that then do and have the foot note that figures marked with an astricts don’t include TAX. If all figures are before TAX, you can simply put “Note - All figures shown here are before TAX.” 5) Those Price savings! WHOA!! I’d love to see if this is the reality when put into place, and would love to see a initial set-up and test video and possibly a walk through of the TALK app and its features etc. 6) Also, I would love to know if it would be more cost affective to use a UDM Pro or a CKG2+ and the needed PoE injectors or Switch for say a 10 - 20-person company. A phone per person, X wireless access points and a few cameras. An idea for a future video possibly? 7) Love to see the commitment and I hope you can continue with these videos! Hope this is still helpful! Keep up the good work!
I really appreciate the time you are putting in to this feedback, it's incredibly helpful! I'm glad to know the changes I made to the webcam from last time looked good. You caught me red handed with the audio, I was trying to get away with using the built in mic on the webcam but obviously it didn't go over well. Learned my lesson there:) I also appreciate the video ideas, saved them all in my video ideas doc!
@@simple_networks I enjoy giving feedback and helping. I'm glad its help :D Indeed, the only thing I believe is left to do is dial in a check list type process to get that consistency. Then sky’s the limit. (For now, until Simple networks gets its own space program, then physics the limit!) :D
