***UPDATE:*** As I said in the video, it has been confirmed in the Titan Discord server that the wireless charging is *not* a part of the main charging circuitry. As posted by Nomi: "Don't use wireless charging at all, they made the horrible mistake of not including it on the protective charging circuit so it just leads to horrible outcomes." Do *not* use the wireless charging on the Titan. It is not safe.

@hellspawn
@hellspawn 2 года назад
@@matoiresh Although unlikely, any overcharged battery explosion can have the potential to cause fire. Regardless, you shouldn't use wireless charging as it is not included on the protected charging circuitry on the Titan.
@alexmand8003

to confirm the website shows wireless charging is supported but you have discovered that it could actual cause a fire?
@hellspawn
@hellspawn Год назад
@@alexmand8003 Although I didn't "discover" it, yes, that is absolutely what I am saying. It *could* cause a fire. If you want to read in further detail about this, join the Unihertz Titan Discord channel for a more detailed breakdown. There are a few people in there who have experienced issues with wireless charging destroying their battery life, and after tearing down their phones, it's evident that the wireless charging isn't included on the protected charging circuitry. This can lead to overcharge which causes severe damage to the battery and very much has the ability to cause a fire or/and completely battery failure if left to charge for long enough. The convenience of wireless charging isn't worth the risk of damaging the phone. See the video description for a link to a video about the issue too.

The Titan pocket build quality is ridiculously good for the price that they're charging. The screen isn't the best quality and it uses a low tier processor, but the aluminum build on the back is great.

You're pretty on the money from what I've seen, but I baby my stuff to keep it pristine personally. Some people *have* had issues with fingerprint scanners dying upon the phone being dropped from great heights, but other than that? It seems rock solid. One dude in the Discord server spilled break fluid all over his and raw-dogged it out of a case since getting his from the Kickstarter campaign and it's still going strong (albeit absolutely battered cosmetically). >Tried any emulators on it? Not tried any emulators myself, I don't use my phone for anything other than messaging and calls, really. Have you also done a video on the Titan Pocket? I have had the OG Titan, but it was a bit large for my needs. It’s quite a hefty thing! Just wondering about your thoughts on the slim and the pocket as well. Thank you for an amazing video! :)
@hellspawn
@hellspawn 4 месяца назад
Sadly not - I opted out of getting a pocket and slim for different reasons. I hear quite a lot of complaints about the pocket from a screen size point of view, but the keyboard on it is apparently fantastic. As for the slim, I think they skimped on the screen size with the huge bezels it has, and I've heard mixed things about it feeling quite unbalanced and top-heavy in-hand, but I am not too sure about that as I don't own one. It also looks ridiculously thick for an item calling itself the "slim" - I love my Unihertz Titan, and I think UH have hit the nail on the head when it comes to build quality, but I 100% understand your complaints about how hefty the Titan in particular is. If they ever make an homage to the PRIV or a true successor to the KEY series of BlackBerry phones in a slimmer form-factor, I think they'll win over quite a lot of people but they seem hesitant to do so for some reason despite the feedback they're getting from their community. Glad you enjoyed the video, thanks for watching :-)

I was looking to purchase this phone as a transition phone to more basic phones. I'm very tired of being addicted to my big tall galaxy brick phone. My phone's screen is riddled with cracks from falling off my bed and just placing it on a desk screen down. If I don't get this phone I may just get a basic flip phone or a CAT touch screen flip phone. As long as I can decrease my screen time in some way and just focus on the here and now that's what really matters to me

Is the phone fast enough and strong enough? In comparison with contemporary phones like a new Samsung or an iPhone, how would it do, eg in apps? Does it get too warm etc? What about the BB Key2, is it better than it? It's time for me to change my Priv. Was being patient, waiting for the idiots of OnwardMobility and their new phone, which never came and never will as they shut down, so now this one seems my only chance to a similar phone with my previous Passport which was great, and this one is 8core and Android10, so seems promising, but should I chose it over the bbKey2 and as I initially asked, is it good enough, fast etc, that wont get heated etc, in comparison with Apple and Samsung?
@hellspawn
@hellspawn 2 года назад
>Is the phone fast enough and strong enough For everything I use it for, yes, it is absolutely fast enough and powerful enough to handle apps. >In comparison with contemporary phones like a new Samsung or an iPhone It isn't comparable specs wise to an iPhone or Samsung device, but in fairness, it isn't trying to compete with iPhone's or Samsung devices - It performs as well as a mid-range phone IMO, and I have no issues with it when it comes to running applications and browsing the web. If you're coming over from a PRIV, the Titan will feel like a massive upgrade. >Does it get too warm? No, the Titan has 0 overheating issues in my experience. With you coming over from the PRIV, I can 100% understand why this would be a concern as my PRIV used to overheat too. >Is it better than the key2 Formfactor wise? It's a matter of preference. Specs wise? Yes, as the Key2 is several Android versions behind at this stage, where the Titan is on Android 10 and can be upgraded to Android 11 and 12 with some tweaking. >Was being patient, waiting for the idiots of OnwardMobility and their new phone, which never came and never will as they shut down Sorry to hear that - I waited for a while as well, but saw the writing on the wall literally a year ago which is why I made moves to buy a Titan in the first place. >this one seems my only chance to a similar phone with my previous Passport which was great, and this one is 8core and Android10, so seems promising, but should I chose it over the bbKey2 and as I initially asked, is it good enough, fast etc, that wont get heated etc, in comparison with Apple and Samsung? If you're in a position where you have to choose between a Titan or a Key2 as you're a mandatory keyboard user for whatever reason, I'd 100% say to go with the Titan and fiddle with the settings to get it to your liking. You need to be very involved when setting it up before using it as it has some odd choices in the settings out of the box in its app-blocker settings, but it's nothing that can't be fixed by unticking a few boxes and installing Blackberry Keyboard. The Key2 was a great phone, but it's several Android versions behind and the Blackberry phones have absolutely 0 future. Unihertz have expressed interest in making more physical keyboard phones in the future, and they do listen to and interact with Unihertz phone owners (unlike Blackberry), so you're more likely to get some support if anything goes wrong with your phone. If you had the Passport, you'll probably adjust to the Titan much quicker than I did too. Hope this helps :-)

@@hellspawn I'm a little disturbed that many newer videos on the pocket and slim mention the OG Titan in passing in regards to the keyboard and always rank it in the third position. I don't think that's right. I've had 3 keyboard phones ( Priv, Key2, Titan) and I found the Priv KB to be a pain (too small) and the Titan and Key2 equally fantastic. I also find the square screen almost a plus although to be fair I know that's in part because I may not use it with/for the same tasks/purposes as an average user. But to my original point I enjoy using its fine KB everyday, i am so spoiled and if I have to type something on my wife's iPhone 13 i especially realize that.

I agree so much. I had both BlackBerry Key Phones, the Titan, and the Titan Pocket. I didn't like the Pocket very much because it is too small and the keyboard stiffer. However my OG Titan I've been using for over 2 years as my daily phone and it's my favorite of all time with the Key2 LE keyboard a close second. The OG Titan keyboard seems to break in over time and it's an absolute joy to use day after day. It replaced my Galaxy Note 9 and I never looked back.

Hi would you recommend this phone for a student? I watch a lot of videos, read manga, music and notes. I was wondering if this phone was snappy enough and worth getting over the pocket edition. I don't care about cameras at all. I live in Australia by the way. Thank you!
@hellspawn
@hellspawn Год назад
Hey there, as someone who was a student while using a Blackberry PRIV, I can say having a keyboard phone *does* make a significant difference if you happen to take a lot of notes or send a lot of emails. I'm a pretty firm believer that the Titan keyboard is superior to the one on the PRIV, so should be good in that regard! Regarding music: No issues at all, sound output is fine through headphones, but there is only one built in speaker (albeit a very loud and decent quality one) I haven't ran into any issues with music apps not working or anything. Regarding manga: Not too sure on this one due to the screen orientation, but I'd be happy to find out for you if you let me know which application you use for reading manga. That said, I'd stay well away from the pocket if you're going to be doing any great amount of reading on it - The screen is just far too small for stuff like this, and it has serious compatibility issues with the UI on certain apps and websites as it is. I've ran into none of these issue on the OG Titan, though. Regarding performance: Specs are fine, I never experience any lag or slowdown when doing anything. Never once felt like I've had to wait for it to "catch up" to me or whatever. If you do get one, I'd very very very highly recommend joining the Titan Discord to tweak a few out of the box settings so it works for you + using Cobalts BB Manager to patch the PRIV version of the keyboard to work on it. The pack-in virtual keyboard that you'll need to use occasionally for symbols is absolutely terrible and causes typos constantly. Feel free to drop me a line if you buy one and I'll dump a clean BB Keyboard APK from my PRIV + a clean copy of Cobalts BB Manager for you. I used to live in Aus myself, so it's a bit of a shame I still don't or I could let you know what the network coverage is like :( no luck there, but I have heard good things from Aussies who do have Unihertz phones if it helps? Hope my long-winded reply helps!

I hear a lot of mixed things regarding waterproofness on the Titan. Some people seem to have no issues after submerging it, others suffer from keyboard failure.
