This week I review the Unimig Viper 120 Synergic mig welder. This welder comes with 1kg of .8mm Gasless steel wire and gas hose but no gas regulator. Unimig web site unimig.com.au
You are 100% spot on. I last welded about 20 years ago as part of my electrical apprenticeship. Fast forward to now and welding quite well thanks to this easy to use unit. I bought the Viper 120 package which includes auto darkening helmet, gloves, spool of 0.8 wire and toolkit of consumables etc - awesome! 😎
Mike, (engineer here) Welding produces full-spectrum UV radiation, including the highly carcinogenic UVC, which the earth's atmosphere blocks from the sun. It is therefore insane to weld with only one glove. This is a risk you need not expose yourself to. The trigger is just a switch. Also, the welds would be better here if you travelled A) slower and B) more consistently, plus, cleaning everything with a flap disc on an angle grinder prior to welding would help. (FCAW is tolerant of impurities, but the result is always better with cleaner base metal.)
I've got one of these little beauties and for the home shop, making benches and welding up trailers like I do it's perfect. Anything 2mm amd thinner it's a bit hot and touchy. So panel work is difficult but I've had nothing but good experience with mine
Potentially with this welder you could gain some extra setting flexibility by say using 0.8 wire set the machine to say 0.6 setting and then running the setting for the synergic at a higher amperage and vice versa worth try to see what it does it may or may not work but it will give you additional settings as different wire diameters will react differently to the normal settings.
Im old School and used To adjusting Wire feed and Amps Separately So this Synergy thingy was foreign to me Well Im pleasantly Suprised Made up a lathe bench today Welded perfectly Highly Recommend For The Home WS But lose the Gasless wire too much smoke and spatter and still have to chip /clean the weld Go Sheilded C02 Gas with Btl and regulator 100% better Job PS dont need Argosheild for a Good Weld
