Having a spiritual cleaning (limpia) in Cuenca, Ecuador. Traditional healing or "faith healing" is an important part of Ecuadorian culture, and many people believe that a “cleaning” helps keep our natural energy in balance and alleviates stress.
Doña Blanca Balarzo (filmed with permission) is traditional faith healer in her community. She explains that she uses different combination of herbs for men and women since masculine and feminine energies are different.

Thanks very much for commenting! Yes, when she snapped my head around it took me completely by surprise, I had no idea she was going to do that! Fortunately, no broken neck! The traditional spiritual cleansings are a big part of Ecuadorian culture (as I imagine they are in some parts of Brazil?) and my Ecuadorian wife is a big believer in them. Definitely a worthwhile experience, and I definitely felt the stress leave my body!

Hi Lorenzo, it's just just the live music that was at that festival, unfortunately I don't know the artist or name of the song. The festival was called "La Feria Mujer Rural", or Rural Women's Fair, where the ladies from the country came to show off their skills and products.

That is open to debate. My wife, who encouraged me to do this, is a huge believer that our positive or negative energy can have meaningful repercussions on our lives, and the events that befall us. Spiritual cleansings are an ancient part of Andean cultures, being practiced long before the Europeans arrived in South America. I was not entirely convinced, but I kept an open mind and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. For me, the true benefit is enjoying a new culture and experiencing what it has to offer. I did feel a sense of peace and release afterwards, and would definitely do it again with another reputable practitioner.

Hello, this was at a local market and Doña blanca charged $3 for the limpia and $2 for the massage, so $5 for what I received. She definitely believes in what she is doing and does it very well. I know some shamans, especially at fairs or events that attract tourists, will charge more like $20 or even more.

Well, fortunately she didn't break my neck, but, there really is no suing in Ecuador, the concept of liability isn't the same. So you submit to a practitioner at your own risk!
