That must be 844's last run before its 15-year inspection and rebuild! If 3985 were repaired in 2014, it would take over the excursions for 844, including the Cheyenne Frontier Days special!
Hi, Tom...and thanks for the video. I was communicating with Dr. Chris Merritt recently, and he said there are no plans for guided tours of CPRR/UP right of ways this year at Promontory, so far, and he will keep me appraised of any movement in that area. I would love to go on one there, and also the Dale Creek right of way, as we discussed. Thanks again, for your efforts, Tom.
Good Evening Tom!🍷 The frequent appearance of such UP equipment is an advantage of living in our respective states! Related to that, I was train watching at Gibbon today and had the pleasure of watching and following two UP SD-40N's that were switching and gathering their eastbound local for Grand Island!!😊
@@travelingtom923 I live around 20 miles outside of GI. If you ever come this way, let me know. I love making "pilgrimages" to Colorado, but it's been a while
Someone else from facebook said the streamliners need new wheels and the Centennial needed some repairs and another person said that they retired them along with UP 3985
@@bigboychallenger779 No the only issue with the DDA40X was a starter. Nothing wrong with the E units including the wheels. The #3985 was retired last year but will remain in Cheyenne. Not sure but the streamliners may need Positive Train Control installed before they go on the main line again.
I've not seen one of these steam trains operate without having a diesel, is the diesel providing support power? Is the diesel the primary engine. To me, and I know this might seem odd, but seeing the diesel detracts from the amazing steam engine.
the diesel is just there to provide air pressure and electricity and dynamic braking to the train, theoretically it could also help out if there is a problem with the steam engine. i'd like to see it replaced with a brake car that does the same functions but looks like normal rolling stock.
@@georgematthews2877 that doesn't make sense because the counterweights should balance the wheel, if they weren't they would equally slam up into the frame of the engine as they do down into the tracks thus making them the opposite of what they are supposed to do
