The police arrest criminals, and she almost immediately lets them back out onto the streets, in turn the commit violent crimes over and over. People don't just laugh at things that they think are funny. This is a stressful situation and people sometimes have trouble coping with it. Coping mechanisms are hard for a lot of people to understand. It's a subconscious thing. It's not done deliberately and the person affected often can't stop it. She is definitely not thinking that this is funny.

The suspects are fortunate they committed their crimes in Jackson County, MO because Jean Peters-Baker gives some of the sweetest plea deals in the state of Missouri. My only surprise is she didn't request ROR bonds for them.

I’ve been unfortunate enough to have been ensnared in Kansas City’s prosecution ring some years back with Baker amidst the fiasco that led to a ‘non-case’ a year after the incident. Not a fan.

They can't justify new laws that only effect law abiding citizens if the shooter's are under age and cannot legally own or possess a firearm. Waiting period, background checks, red flag laws canceled carry permits are all irrelevant to an individual that cannot own or possess a firearm.

A Canadian here, forgive me for not knowing the laws in the US…. How can two individuals be charged for the shooting of one person? Obviously two people didn’t have their finger on the trigger of the same gun..
So 2 adults are being charged but they still haven’t said what the 2 juveniles are being charged. Right? So right now they have 4 in custody and looking at others to bring in. I don’t understand the secrecy and protection for these thugs.

The people who spoke in this update were in charge while KCMO set a record for homicides in 2023. There were eight homicides in KC during the week of the Chiefs celebration and I don't think there are any aprehensions or charges after the Crown Center shootings a short time ago.
I live in KCMO. Most people I talk to have apprehension going to any event with a large crowd or at night because of the shootings. Yes, there was almost 200 homicides last year, sadly that statistic doesn't include how many shooting victims that survived! That's one number I'd like to know. I live in a "safer area" on KCMO and hear gun shots including automatic gunfire almost every night. Most I talked to weren't too worried about the Chief rally, including myself because I was thinking most everyone would be there just to celebrate and everyone was just super happy. It was actually magical and in a few seconds, it became a nightmare. The DA just did an interview on TV last night about the Crown Center Shootings, they're not just letting it go.

My body is literally trying to send out peaceful and comforting energy to everyone who has been hurt both physically and mentally in this horrible event . On side note, I felt the smiles and laughs were out of place by this woman, but I don't blame her because she even said it, this is not her place/space. She would rather be doing the investigating and giving the victims justice. So I can forgive the nervous smiles and laughter, because I'm hoping she'll put these men and others behind bars for a long time. I worked max/close security prisons for nearly 2 decades and had a lot of encounters with these types of gangsters. Back then it was primarily the Bloods, Crips, and Black Gangster Disciples that ran the black gangs. Circumstances presumably. 1st degree is generally planned, premeditated. 2nd degree is unplanned intentional killing/causing death as the result of reckless disregard for human life. There's not really a path to convicting for first degree just based on how it unfolded. They didn't know each other, nor did they know the victim, so it's really hard to prove they intended to specifically kill her versus them being able to prove a reckless disregard for human life.
I was jury foreman on a drive by shooting. Two gang members shooting into a group of another. 14 year old boy took a bullet in the head. They couldn't prove intent on killing that specific person so he was charged with second degree. Over twenty years ago in KC. The judge urged us to find him not guilty as opposed to a hung jury because the court was too busy to try it again. The defense played the race card even though the shooter and victim were the same. We hung the jury because the race card had been played and certain jurors were unwilling to convict the shooter because of his race. He was retired and got six years. That's what these two will probably get. Some sketchy criminal defense lawyer will no doubt paint them as victims. Experience tends to make one cynical.

I was impressed by Ms Baker and the Police Chief and Mayor for their consistent and dedicated approach to abide by the most careful adherence to the rule of law and discovery. It appears from comments further down this page that few seem to understand that all facts cannot be present as immediately as our 24/7 society would like. This extraordinary situation will take time to unfold, reveal and in perfect ways and in perfect timing, find resolution and justice.
