the rotating glasses were made for sailors, instead of their glasses tipping as the boat rocked in waves, it would roll.

I feel like... I feel like this isn’t true. If a ship listed to one side, the design of that glass would not have enough surface area to maintain traction on a table and the abrupt motion would quickly shift the weight of the glass to one direction, making it more likely to topple than a normal glass.
