It reminds me of the architecture in New Mexico. The Spanish brought the style up through the Rio Grande long ago. It's interesting how the style migrated from Morroco, to Spain, and then the Americas. The Pueblo Indians of New Mexico also built in a style similar to this but independently from the Spanish style. Later, the styles merged creating the Santa Fe style architecture of New Mexico. I love the courtyards and how warm and beautiful they look.
Absolutely! These are clearly clay buildings. One of the great things about clay construction is that the houses don't need air conditioning. Earth is amazing at regulating temperature and humidity by absorbing heat and moisture and slowly releasing it again. In this way, earth acts like a natural air conditioning system!
