If you've ever wanted to see someone survive -40° temperatures at ~31k ft altitude while skydiving as well as a 2 min and 17 second selfie of someone not doing much of anything while traveling 5 miles in that time frame, this video is for you!
Here's me making a HALO (High Altitude, Low Opening) skydive. We went to 30k ft pressure altitude (although according to my pretty accurate flysight data, it says 31k ft) using a special oxygen system and bailout bottle breathing tank to stay conscious. Honestly, it's quite an overwhelming skydive to prepare for. Outside the incredible view and just general experience of actually doing it (which is actually REALLY worth the experience) it was a pretty boring skydive otherwise. I didn't even huck in any freeflying because I just didn't want any issues with my oxygen system. It's an excellent experience, but the point of the skydive is basically to survive and take in the amazing view.
Around 15k my R ear can't pop, so I start to experience some extreme pressures in that ear that luckily resolved once I deployed and got my mask off.
Skydance Skydiving hosts this bi-annually, and you can even do tandems! Definitely worth the experience if you want to try it and I can't sing Skydance Skydiving's or Tad's (the guy running the HALO operation) praises enough. They did an excellent job to keep me safe.
