Every time I want to build and paint something just for pure fun and joy, I go for another Russ. They are so easy to paint up to a good standard. I think I own 25 of them now lol
25?!?! That's a very impressive number! I think I only have 5, but I need 5 more 🤣 I should aspire to your drive to paint them. And I agree, I think they are a very satisfying kit where even the box like nature of them lends to getting creative with camo, weathering, and more.
I like to get that Fields of Fire done first with Creed and a platoon command squad using a mortar. It's even better with regular infantry and more mortars. Plus, you now have some orders that can be thrown 24" in case you need melee support with Rough Riders to free up your tanks.
El Classico Leman Russ is so good because of its ability to re-roll hits for all the weapons. The AP on the battle cannon can be an issue but easily mitigated if needed and sometimes you don’t even need to worry about it and AP-1 is good enough
Nice Review. Would you do perhaps a review of the field ordnance batteries? As our "normal" heavy artillery has gotten more points intensive what ypur thoughts are about the fob as an alternative.
Whilst it can be laughed at for being too big, slow and useless in a modern day war zone, but considering that the impirium has to deal with enemies that can fly such as the tau, necroms or eldar, the leman Russ is which i doubt that a modern day battle tank would or could fair any better when dealing with an enemy that fires black holes at you is going to be all that different whether or not you’re in a leman Russ or an Abrams
I just don't like how oversized the gun barrel is. I know that's intensely silly and petty, especially in 40k, but for some reason it's always bugged me. But it is 100% a classic just the same.
I had the same problem with it until I figured out a cool kit bash. You can cut most of the barrel off and replace it with one of the twin battle cannon barrels from the Dorn. It looks way better as its smaller diameter is way more practical.
Ah, what I like the most about this tank is that it doesn't need Take Aim to be effective. In a small game that is huge, or if orders are in short supply. To me, the downside is the AP, which in bigger games with Exterminators and Fields of fire isn't that bad, but in the mentioned smaller setting is a drag. One thing to remember is that this is very good at Overwatch against enemies on objectives, reroll the hit means you'll probably get a few hits and wounds in. I only got one Russ though, so I tend to run it as an exterminator with Lord Solar ordering him and the Dorn..
