Hope you enjoy!

I always say I'm not going to watch the whole twenty minute video...Then I watch the whole twenty minute video. Great sights, and I love watching the control surfaces on the wing work when I'm on a flight. Great video, thank you for sharing. From New Hampshire, USA.

@ebeckets. Reverse thrust absolutely can make a plane go backwards. It's not a standard procedure by any means, but it does happen on occasion. Usually used to back out of a gate area if conditions permit.

Part of the control system. It moves due to control input like an aileron or rudder. It's like a cross between an aileron and a flap. 767 has it, too.

Hey Dan, Thank you so much fro sharing this with us. You showed me sights I will never be able to see now due to my situation. This is the best approach video I have ever seen. Thank you again.

Almost correct, however they are inboard and outboard ailerons, like you have inboard and outboard spoilers. At low speed both sets of ailerons and the inboard spoilers work to give roll control. At high speed only the inboard ailerons and inboard spoilers are used, this is because the response from the outboard ailerons is so effective the rolling moment caused would more than likely flip the aircraft on its back at a high mach no.

Great landing! i'm not sure but, such a perfect landing that it seems like it doesn't even need to use the retro turbo. I didn't hear it.

In general, reverse thrust is used until the aircraft slows down to around 60 knots. Then Manual breaking is used.

There are NO brakes on the '777' Sir only Spoilers that you see deploy when the main wheels touchdown. The Ailerons your referring to are the flaps! ALL aircraft land with some degree of flaps, it makes the aircraft bouyant during slowdown.

Based on your one subjective experience in one place? Different airports have different rules. For all we know your airport has short runways or less strict noise abatement restrictions and maybe the taxiways are such that pilots want to slow down early to catch a turn off that saves them time taxiing back. Idle thrust reverse is pretty common unless you have a good reason to stop, and autobrakes on newer planes at their normal setting achieve what thurst reverse would accomplish, but quieter.

Haha good question :P I'm pretty sure the reverse thrust only goes up to a certain speed backwards! It would be impossible more the airplane to takeoff backwards in so many ways ;) Thanks for watching man!

You can see the spoilers deploy at the nearest part of the wing... The are also air formations, since the whole cabin was shaking dramatically I assume it was at a very high speed :)

Since UA is so large there are a tone of options so you should def look up the exact config of your aircraft on Seatguru or something...

Did I never mention anywhere that it was a bad landing? No! In the title it clearly says "overspeed approach"... Thank you.
@NonstopDan

No it's pretty normal that they do not use them... Especially at airports near cities/residential areas :P
@NonstopDan
@NonstopDan 12 лет назад
It was actually an overspeed approach :) If you skip to around 8:20 you will see it on the wing :)
@NonstopDan

I'm not sure but maybe 20 knots higher than he was meant to? All EX Continental jets have PTV :)

Excellent footage, regardless of the sun's glare. First time I watched a clip twice immediately afterwards. I was delighted to see the overview of Heathrow at the begining and the wing in focus and steady the whole way, well done my man... One thing; could any of you budding pilots out there please tell me why I could NOT see any movement of the surfaces when the plane made it's final turns, but could clearly see them as the plane made it's final approach???

When reversing your engine blades do not spin the opposite way. The engine shell slips back on Boeings and a metal sheet slide down between the thrusters. The fan goes up to full power the the wind reflects off the metal sheet and goes through the slips that were opened. The wind in then pushing forwards to slow down the plane. Sometimes it is hard to hear in larger planes towards the rear

I've often wondered why when LHR vectors flights in from the west.....why the traffic circle is soooo big, there. You pretty much fly over London city center before turning onto long final. No complaints though as it makes for some great viewing of London.

How is this speedy?
@reminiscentbeing
@reminiscentbeing 10 лет назад
London airspace is basically a place where you're put in a hold and you have to hold for something like 30 minutes. To descend from cruise and then be able to straightaway land and execute an approach without having to go around is speedy. He's not talking about the speed of the plane, but rather the speed of the arrival relative to London.
@tjfSIM
@tjfSIM 10 лет назад
***** Actually it's pretty common to get a 'straight in' at LHR. You might get slowed down and vectored for spacing, but controllers try to minimise actual holds as much as possible.
@reminiscentbeing
@reminiscentbeing 10 лет назад
I'm not just talking about LHR, but also Gatwick, Stansted and London City. Controllers try not to, but at times, you get put into holds due to the amount of air traffic in London airspace.

I think I like videos from the interior of a plane more in the landing than the taking off - on the grounds that the closer one reaches the point of landing the faster we realise how rapidly we are still travelling.
@Goproflying

The cabin shake and aileron/spoiler position could be due to crosswind correction. Could you see what the other wind control surfaces were doing?
