In the middle of New York City, tucked away in the corner of Bryant Park, sit two outdoor ping pong tables where anyone is free to play. Young or old, rich or homeless, it doesn’t matter. During the day, the park provides paddles and balls, but after 7pm the regulars show up, armed with their own. Every night they come together to battle each other and the elements, playing in the wind, rain and even snow. And out of this shared love of the game, a bond was formed between an unlikely group of people. Filmmaker Jon Bunning profiles the many lives these tables have touched, including the gangbanger who helped put them there.

@@user-cp9id1mj8b No top government official cares nor thinks about a ping pong table at a park. Things like this tend to get shutdown by regular people like you and me -- people who don't believe in sharing experiences with one another and exploring the potential of humanity. It tends to be those who are for total free market capitalism, social darwinism, and harsh survival mentality that consistently put a damper on organic things like this. For example, if these tables were to be shutdown, it will be because someone goes to city hall and complains. They might come up with a bogus excuse that the officials cannot defend without spending a great deal of time and money. How many right wing wackos do you see at these ping pong tables?

This is so full of humanity. The simple fact that people come together to play ping pong at the beginning and then make connections and friends who change their lives forever is beautiful. This idea of a melting pot of people within communities that can come together and embrace each other is what many Americans grew up with and hold dear. To burst that idealistic bubble though, the US can only improve if we fix certain things within our country and in terms of foreign relations as well. I'm glad that they can use this space as a safe place to get away from all of that. Communities like these are the real heart of America.

Goosebumps alert In Malaysia we don't have that much ping pong lovers everywhere, and the population is getting lower and lower. I used to join a ping pong club during highschool, even though I have tough time in the club, I never left for it. I simply enjoy the moment being in the club. I get a chance to join the school team as substitute and even though I wasn't that good(skills) compared to my fellow teammates, I must say I enjoyed the most and I had the best moments in my life. At my state we used to have a stadium with alot of facilities of sports which of course included ping pong tables. But right after a huge renovation and maintenance project, the state government decided to remove ping pong sections. The first day the stadium was reopened I was there to support, but I sadly found out that my favourite sport is now eliminated. Realising this tragedy, I burst into tears. Such a great game, but not appreciated. And therefore gone. I really hope someone could bring it back to everyone Or should I be the one who try to bring it back to anyone.
