The song "United Nations on the March" was featured in the 1943 MGM war-time musical "Thousands Cheer." Originally written by Shostakovich for a Soviet film called "Counterplan," the song was sung by Kathryn Grayson and a chorus in the Hollywood adaptation. Leopold Stokowski, a champion of Shostakovich, arranged the song as an orchestral march for general concert use. In 1954, the Symphony of the Air conducted by Hugh Ross performed the song during United Nations Day celebrations in New York, with the Schola Cantorum singing Harold J. Rome's lyrics at the end.
