You would find zillions of headers by players who use both the shoulders of the defender and still get away with it. The corner was very quick and sharp and Varane just didn't position himself well for it there's no doubt about it. As for De Gea, coming out to claim that would've been disastrous so it is understandable why he went for quick save reactions which is what he is known for. Nevertheless I do agree with you that he is not the answer for the long run. His command as a GK way less compared to Henderson. Anyway, my point was mainly to show how one moment can literally make a player look at the end of the game rather than praise de gea or write down Varane. Keeping apart this piece of defending, he did a great job in the game.
