Thanks Pal, really appreciate this! I like the simple kind of intro's to start with. You pointed out exactly what i needed to know to get me started! Feels like my TEAC 244 on steroids LOL

Hi! First..thanks for many great videos and tuturials over the years. My thoughts on Luna so far with V1 is that its a really good option for ProTools user who owns an UA interface. They can really benefit from it and also Luna is quite closely related to ProTools. And Pro Tools big thing has always been the audio handling, not the mid/composing side of things. There I believe that Logic, Ableton or even Cubase has been far ahead in constructive workflow when it comes to using virtual instruments , loops, drums etc in a music composing way. I mean many composers today dont make music by plugging in live instruments like Luna has focused on. In my experience here in Sweden where I have collaborated with many different songwriters and teams is that no one does that. That comes in a later stage, if the song or the production requires live instruments that is. Usally modern music ,,wether you like it or not have a completely different workflow often by using loops , virtual instruments, well quite a lot of midi handling. And thats why Im a bit bummed out with what we got here. Dont get me wrong, I also come from the analogue days and have been working on "real" hardware back in the day and I loved it... but sold everything when the music biz changed like 15 years ago with almost no bands/artists booking studios anymore. Some time after that a started again in a smaller scale and went from ProTools to UA Apollo when it first came out and have used it since then, now on the X8p doing different kind of productions for shows and composing for commercials and stuff like that. So I use both the midi workflow and also record live instruments and vocals in the way you just demonstrated in the video here. So why am I a bit dissapointed you might ask?. Well maybe my expectations where to high, cause I was hoping for "best of both worlds" kinda thing and now we got a different kind of ProTools with a midi handling from 2005. I did exactly what you did here today.A try out recording around a beat.some gtr, some live bass and then I tried some instrument tracks, both with the new Luna stuff but also some Nexus, Ana synth and other stuff used in modern productions today. And my verdict is...Audio recording ..great with one exeption, vocal comping...not up to par with for example Logic. When it comes to midi...nahh back to the drawing board pls Universal Audio. Not impressed with that at all. I can see myself bouncing stems and tracks from Logic just to mix in Luna because that seems really great and I really like the summing and the 3d sound that Luna seems to have. But I would have been a much happier man if I have had both of the worlds in one application. Maybe Luna will be that app inn the future? I for sure hope so. Best regards / Peter -Sweden

Yes!, and what's is so wrong with that? Thomas Dolby has been slaving Logic to Pro Tools as long as he could. I have known for years how to do it. Especially for Omisphere 2! It works better in Logic to my simple mind and don't start with the Logic GTR pedalboard, it's too good to be true. It does blues tones better than my AXE FXII, well it does to my ears and the feel of the guitar, how can it be slaved and still have no latency? The main trick is to give and extra measure of clicks in for Logic to get the code and catch up. It sure takes the load off Pro tools and you get the best of both worlds. Beata an Atari 1040st for your MIDI, eh? Yeah MIDI hasn't changed since they made it work, yeah all 17 channels, don't forget the conductor track. Roland...Logic just runs lighter is the simple easy fast answer period. Now you could share/split (virtual channels) outs from any UAD console, just guessing, as in all my life if I think.. oh I should be able to just do this...it's always doable. You just have to learn how the hard and software want to do it to your personal satisfaction. IMHO Split the load 3 ways now and watch and listen to the magic of OMG it actually works. Messed around with it today for the first time. The UI is gonna take some getting used to. I find the audio quality to be better than Logic though. And I love the convergence of Console and DAW into a single platform.

Thanks for the video! I don’t have an Apollo at the moment, but do all my mixing with UAD plugins anyway. I have one question: Is there someone who already uses Luna and would be willing to test if Luna would work with the Voiceover Screenreader on the Mac? Many thanks!

Good v1 but missing some really basics (no midi io interface support, no hardware inserts or controllers....). Looking forward to using it when it’s fully featured.

Hey James I noticed in your video your mains track shows audio going thru it. I have noticed every time I setup a session that my mains track doesn’t show any audio passing through it. Any suggestions?

Transitioning from Cubase to Luna is going to be hard, might just use Luna for mixing.

I edit a lot of live drummers, I use beat detective, I’ve tried to get around editing with LUNA Razor Blade, but can’t get the tracks to stay grouped! If this is going to be a great DAW, it is missing many basic things. But then again this is V1.

learn tab to transient, then "control or Option "I" will open a window where you tell the time line which measure it is. Make what you want it to be. like 4.1.1 and it then changes the tempo to breathe like your drummer actually plays. When you are good at that, try to map an ABB song. Then you will be a Jedi/Nija warrior at tempo mapping

Running mine on a 2017 i7 4 core MacBook Pro with an Apollo Twin Duo (1st Gen). Has anyone else noticed if their Mac is running really hot, even at idol with no plug-ins, just an empty song. Also seems a bit unstable. Ive had quite a few crashes trying to load an instrument track, other tracks seem to be ok..Plus the plug-ins load quite slowly compared to my Pro Tools set up on the same machine....

Mookmusik same for me at first launch (2014 machine), then better. Some things were probably init. Anyway they will bring corrections really quick if needed I guess.

Yea I’ve noticed that general load times are pretty slow. It takes me around 6-7 seconds to load software instruments in Luna, and maybe 1 second in Protools & Logic Pro. 2013 iMac 32 GB of RAM, intel i7 with Apollo X6 interface.

I understand but you were totally off on the bass when you performed it. Nothing wrong with cutting and pasting at all but I think whatever we cut and paste should be a great take from the musician meaning the singer as well because I consider a singer to be a musician. I don’t think we should come in with the bass part and be off in the rhythm and then somebody quantizes it and now it’s good in the rhythm. That doesn’t swing, and that has no soul and that’s why granted there are phenomenal artists and phenomenal songwriters out today but most of the music especially the main stream have that soul

I am hearing the sounds and looking at the meters on the tracks and on the main output, they don't relate at all. This definitely cannot be use for professional production.

Omg, UA has re-invented REASON....This is becoming ridiculous. Like if Gibson made studio monitors.... Well, they did and that's what got them into trouble... With audio, technologywise there is not much more we can do, can we? Some smart people will come-up with stuff like Soothe but hey, I guess that let us alone with pur creativty...
