Thank you so much for the review Ryan! Been hoping you would do one on the ox and it did not disappoint. The song sounded absolutely awesome. Been hesitant about the ox until now since I hadn't seen any high gain demos, but now I'm sold. Kudos to you mister! I agree that the ability to rack it would make it even more attractive though, along with v30s. I hope uad will take that into consideration. But either way, I'm looking forward to get my hands on one!
Love hearing that rockerverb! My biggest gripe with the ox is lack of PC support (maybe just a gripe for me) and it's significantly more expensive than some of it's competition. I know PC support is coming, but with a move coming up, I don't know if I can wait for it.
Great video... I Can Only Imagine A V30's Cab Will Be Released Soon...When The Ox Came Out It Was Limited In Cab Sims But As Time Has Progressed They Have Really Made Sure Each Cab Sim Is Excellent Which Id Much Rather Than Releasing Junk... Great Review, It Would Be Awesome To Do A Video With Both Of Our Channels In The Future... Perhaps Bring Back Riff Wars - Kevin
Glad I found this, I was really looking to see someone use this for something other than dad blues… Seems like it’s going to be super compatible with my JJ
I've had the OX Amp Top Box for about 3 weeks. And another gripe I have about it is the fact that they give us a capability that we can't even use yet. There's a footswitch toggle in the back but at the time of writing this there is no functionality for it. Let's hope UA can give us an update soon to address that issue. I would love to toggle Reverb, EQ, Delays, and the Compressor via a footswitch, even toggle rig settings.
I've had mine going on two years now and love it. My only issue is that both the OX and the iOS app (that controls the OX) don't have dual-band wifi compatibility. And unfortunately, I live in a building that has several tenants utilizing 2.4 GHz which results in a lot of interference.
Man that first lick of the song was excellent my friend and it makes me want to pick it off and play it this afternoon I know it's your lick but it moved me and I can't wait to hear it live pushing some air out of my cabs
Is there any sort of delay when using the wireless (hot spot) compared to using Thunderbolt for a Mac? I agree with the rack mount option. Also how would you compare this to the Two Notes Live model? Good video Fluff.
So you can't load any of your own IRs into the ox as well, right? To me a little shocking at that price category we are talking about. And no xlr outs either :D
Is this the 1st video w/the new camera gear? I mean --- damn! Does need some color correction or better lighting BUT the video is rrrrrrrreally good! I don't much about the UA but the quality of the video brings out the interest for the top box thingy for me. Good work, man
I realize you posted this a long time ago, but could you tel me if one is able to use these plugins in any DAW without any special UA hardware? I have an ApogeeEnsemble interface and record in Cubase on a Mac. I'd love to be able to use the 1176 on tracks OTHER than just the guitar.
Will you be reviewing the headrush frfr? And if so, any comparisons to other frfr options like the line 6 l2m. Bass player looking for opinions.

the biggest weakness is that is has no Blend IR (or is there something similar ? ) ... honestly this the best thing two notes make. I never found a IR that does everything right ... with blend IR you can load in a IR that is almost like you want it, then eq it with blend ir and save it as a new IR... that way i really got where i wanted to get ... are there other ways to do this ?
While this does look like a convenient package I do not get the 1299 price tag. Why wouldn't you use your current Bal/Unbal line out of the attenuator you already own and send it to the interface/front of house and let your macbook/sound engineer load any cab sim you want? To put this price point into perspective a new macbook pro starts at 1299 and the ox box cannot send e-mails or surf the internet which ruins the argument for the oxbox that I continually hear "it is more than attenuator", well a macbook pro is more than an ox box... period... if this is in the 700-900 range it makes a decisions for convenience much more difficult BUT even at that price I don't think I need to change the cab, mic, and room at the amp.
Love the box. I just wish it didn’t look like a Radio Shack home built kit. I mean for what it costs they could have spent a bit to make it look nice in a rack. Just my opinion though.
Kick up the exposure setting a little bit in your post editing. Camera quality it good, just a little flat and dark. Unless you're going for flat and dark, then carry on. Cheers!
No it is different to the Torpedo. I have both the Torpedo Live and the Ox Box. The Ox is sooo much better. The Torpedo is working with Ir's and the Ox is a complete new approach to simulate speakers, microphones etc.
This thing is annoyingly missing features. For $1300 I should be getting two outs, midi control, the effects coming out to the cabinets, no click attenuator which helps nobody, just frustrating.
