PF-Diagnose is a lifetime license, never expires. If you want updates/support after 12 months it costs $125/year. You can NOT reflash ECMs with this tool. Only two OEMs allow the general public to reflash ECMS, which is Navistar and Cummins. We sell the software for both. All other OEMs have it locked down, unless you want to pay thousands per year and go to classroom training.

It pulls fault codes on automobiles as well, as long as they are using OBDII... Which is 1995 & newer typically.

We have mostly John Deere, Komatsu and CAT heavy equipment. Would this be a good tool to diagnose trucks and heavy equipment?

You can purchase some, but not all, of the software to put this on your own laptop. Also, gaming laptops usually don't hold up well in shop environments.

Those types of laptops are meant to be used on desks. These type of laptops are used in shops, which can have high humidity, hot temperatures, moisture, and a prone to damage due to the fact they are used in trucks, rolling shop carts, service trucks, and whatever else. It will work, but don't expect your laptop to hold up well compared to a rugged one. The rugged ones also have no moving parts and can withstand a drop on concrete. Search RU-vid for "toughbook torture test" to see what I mean.
