Not that I am one to be a sycophant. However, you are, without a doubt, a phenomenal teacher! Your passion and love for the subject comes across in everything you talk about. You make every aspect to automotive engineering utterly fascinating and compelling. Your presentations are the best. I've learned so much from you. More power to you! :)

Thank you so much for your time, effort and depth of knowledge. I am a grad from one of the top rated trade schools (30 years ago) Been a semi driver the last 20 years but I have been turning wrenches since I was very young. There is so much that this series has shown me was wrong with the way I have done things in the past. Thank you again. I will be watching and learning from all the videos that you are kind enough to put together.

Great video - Thank you. I recently replaced a center bearing on a GM tail shaft which GM said can't be done please buy a whole new assembly. Anyway all went well and my friend has a car to-drive again. One thing I learned. GM or Holden here in Australia have staked universal joints in the tail shaft I was working on which seems crazy vs a simple cir-clip. On the Internet i found a number of instructions on how to re stake the bearing cap. If it was my car i might have tried it but not on a friends lest it failed in a very nasty way. Anyway I hope your series will cover GM's cheap pathetic method of saving on a C clip

I can attest to the long life of factory u-joints. I bought my 4wd 2004 F250 brand new and the only u-joints that have been replaced are the ones inside the front axle. They didn't need to be replaced but I had a limited slip differential installed and since blown apart anyway it seemed like the right thing to do. 12 years and counting with no problems.

How tight should U-Bolts be that hold the driveshaft into the rear end pinion? if they are too tight would that cause a vibration?
@WeberAuto
@WeberAuto 3 года назад
It depends upon the axle, but a typical 1/2 ton or 3/4 ton truck torque would be around 25 ft lbf. Over torquing can distort the bearing cap and slowly destroy the u-joint and cause a vibration. Thanks for watching
@clarkblount7788
@clarkblount7788 2 года назад
The bolts should be stagger tightened. On some vehicles not doing so causes vibration.

I am having great trouble sourcing UJ's that grease via the cap. I have found this type of joint far easier to service. I have tried to contact Spicer and SKF but get passed off to their dealers are not helpful unless I have part #'s when I give the part # of the joint I have it is cross greasable, not Cap. Can anybody help? The size I need is Spicer 5-101X
