Excellent video! LOVE the chart. This is such a foundational video for a beginner like myself. I have a Big Shot machine so I’m so glad we’ll be able to use the Universal plate system with the Big Shot. Keep up the great work, Team Spellbinders!
Having just purchased my first Spellbinders Platinum machine I was questioning if I REALLY needed this new plate system. After watching this video, I see that I do if I want to explore the newer types of embossing folders and expand my creativity. I rarely use embossing folders and therefore didn’t realize how much the folders could vary between manufacturers. Thank you for this very informative and helpful video.
Denzil!!!! So nice to see you in action. I already have these plates but haven't started to use so this is helpful. Love the idea to mark each folder with a sharpie. I think I will also add the number code for the sandwich on the plate.
I thought I did not need this but it really looks like it would simplify so many tasks. The extra size was already so tempting but the clear function labeling is great. Such a thoughtful design. Of course the info on the components should be horizontal. Took what, 30 years ? For someone to break the industry standard and say- this makes so much more sense.
I can't wait to buy the set!. I am always fighting with my machine to get fully cut dies. If I add thin cardboard (like a cracker box) it only works a few times, then the card board had been smashed and it's not cutting fully again. I even bought a set of digital calipers, so I can see exactly how thick any sandwich is and I adjust from that measurement. It is such a hassle. I have also purchased 3 different brands of die cutting machines, they start out great and slowly go down hill.
Great video, can’t wait to get mine (it’s on order). The chart showing the different manufacturers and their embossing folders is great. Since it is a living chart it would be nice if we could print it out on our computer to hang on the wall for easy reference. Great job!

Really enjoying the new platform. It makes it so much easier to do 3D folders.. Now when do we get a magneric plate, mat or shim? I am really getting tired of washie tape.
Just got the new set yesterday, will be trying them out today with some of the new Spellbinder dies I also got yesterday. I have been having problems with my new platinum 6, it's too hard to crank. I've only been using Spellbinders dies in it, but the handle is so hard to turn, it's as if the sandwich is too thick.
This looks great and will help with some of my embossing folder. I have a I have the old teal machine and the newer platinum 6. I love the cutting plate with the the old machine, it would be great if you could use the same material for the new machines. They do not warp.
Ok bought it anyway just couldn't wait. Reason #1 I have Diamond Press dies that are thinner than many if not all others. BUT I can't get any sandwich with and without shim and shims and even cereal box side shims to work. I've tried shims directly under the media to cut into in hopes that would work. NOOOOO. what do you recommend? Anyone? I've searched how to use Diamond Press Dies in Platinum and Sizzix machines and instead I get how to use all of the Spellbinder and Sizzix dies in the Diamond Press.....grrrrr. So frustrating. I may be over thinking it. Need to relax and try tomorrow. I have a never ending card die from Diamond Press so wanting to cut using either Platinum 6 or 8.5 machines. I haven't found such a die in any other brand and would love Spellbinders to come out in a 8" size never ending card cut and fold design die. Anyway patience has never been my strong point. I'm going to give it a go again tomorrow. But HELP would be appreciated for sure.
I know you say in the video that the new plates work in the Platinum machine but these plates are still smaller than what I got in my Spellbinders. They are about 8 by 12. Will you be making bigger plates for the machine I have?
Just ordered the Universal Plate System and cannot wait to receive it. I am a big fan of the slimline format and these should be great tools. What is the recommended sandwich for Lisa Horton Crafts 3D embossing folders?
So wish I'd picked up on what the Universal plate system was about when the sale at Spellbinder was going on 1-2 weeks ago. I would have ordered it then at around 30-40% off. Anyway will hold my breath for the next big sale then...hope there will be one soon. Meantime my P-6 arrived today. Of course with the smaller or shorter plates and full height of the original base platform. Having said that I also have the P-8.5 and been pretty good with 3D embossing across the board. However I did run into major problems with Tim Holtz 3d and cutting folders. I ended up warping and ruining 3 of his expensive specialized cut and emboss folders right out of the package. The gemini mini ruined 2 and a generic brand manual ruined the third. I also must note the material may have been the major problem it was Sizzix surfax media that's tough leatherlike you moisten and knead to make pliable and then cut and emboss but it didn't go well. In the end I' now chicken to try my other Tim Holtz dies. For now. Once I get a unversal set here I may get brave again but won't use the tough leatherlike material at least not right away. So watch everyone for another sale on this system. And I'll be picking up a couple of extra cutting plates to mate with the bases too because sooner than later I'll be needing new ones.
