Pleased that even though Granet got Ferrante before me, I got Elena before him :) Great anticipation by him! Not sure why Paxo sometimes accepts last names only but in this case asked for a first as well, considering it's just a R1 match and Clare was down 65:110 at the time and he's usually easier on the trailing team.

Tudor studying history and Page studying literature. I love it!

They tried to make Paine the hedonist in one question.

The Americans are killing it this season (thus far, anyway)

I don't know why smart people also are supposed to be self-deprecating. No one asks athletes to be humble; in fact, if they are, we tend to suspect them of humble-bragging. I like to see smart people enjoy their prowess.

Disagree. Such a display of ego is vulgar.

S48 LOSER'S TABLE Three of the five losing teams so far this season have put up very respectable scores. With Hertford's 150 today, Pembroke-Oxford led by the happy-go-lucky Perry are the first team this season to be officially eliminated. 175 Emmanuel - Cambridge 150 Exeter 150 Hertford - Oxford 90 SOAS ---------------- 75 Pembroke - Oxford

Thoughts on Paxman giving Clare-Cambridge the win with the Nunavut question? I think it was the right choice to let them have it but very close game

it gave him the chance to convince the nation he is capable of kindness.

Almost 3/4 of the quiz was over, Clare was trailing 30 points and had been trailing most of the game, so I don't think Paxo thought they would catch up and was really 'kind'ly throwing them a bone, not the win. Hertford's Page took awhile, though not as long, to answer 'Tokyo' at about 17:10, but wasn't at all dramatic as Nixon was. 'Nunavut' not the easiest name to remember under pressure like that ;P

@@Sandra27HK Page answered 'Tokyo' quickly and couldn't be heard because of the claxon so he repeated himself.

@@BlitzN7 Well spotted! Didn't catch that at the time probably coz we are so conditioned to wait for the answer after the name is called. Just replayed it on high vol. Tks!

I don't descend to ad-hominem levels, but Garnet might do well after learning a thing or two about modesty.
@Sandra27HK
@Sandra27HK 5 лет назад
uttam paudel I don't descend to ad hominem, but if you're going to slag off someone, at least get their 6-letter name right :) Question: Why start off by saying you don't and then do? Note he got 5 starters, the highest of the lot, but only got excited about the last one when he got his team over the finish line. Give the guy a break!
@Sandra27HK
@Sandra27HK 5 лет назад
Lynley I'm confused by your comment ... are you calling Granet a 'dullard' and a 'village idiot'?
@criticuttam
@criticuttam 5 лет назад
@@Sandra27HK Since he is clever, all the more reason to be more humble. To quote a forgotten poet, 'The tree that bears fruit always stoops down in humility.' Besides, there have been many much more intelligent people in this show who got along fine in their lives without any of the embarrassing exhibitions of vanity. I think it is important to mention that I don't descend to ad-hominem levels because I seldom do and this situation elicits such a response. I hope that clarifies. About the name, I stand corrected.
@Sandra27HK
@Sandra27HK 5 лет назад
Btw I love poetry and have read that quote before, but I'm pretty sure Newton would have had sth to say about that: certainly NOT bowing in humility, but due to gravity? ;P
@criticuttam
@criticuttam 5 лет назад
@@Sandra27HK Of course, it is a personal opinion. I am not trying to impose anything on anyone; if you read my original comment, I merely say that he might do well, as a suggestion. Not that it will ever reach him. Since he is a clever and learned man, I think it would not be a bad idea to learn a little modesty. On the poetry front, it would be a shame if Tennyson had been held back by the anatomical impossibility and not written about men rising on the stepping- stones of their dead selves to higher things. :) Good luck to him and his team.
